Pool Hopping, Mug-Reusing, & All Around Abusing!???

...... I don't know if Disney keeps a whole fleet of those things on hand, but it would be a real shame if someone that needed it couldn't be accommodated just because another guest was too lazy to walk.

If someone is using a ECV at Disney just because they are lazy I think they would find out after the first day the EVC's are very inconvenient especially at Disney.
Those of us using an EVC seem to become "invisible" since able bodied guests are crossing in front of us, stopping in front of us and never seem to see us until it is time for us to load onto a bus. When we are loading onto a bus that is when we become very visible.
It is very hard to drive an EVC in the crowds in the parks.
It is not easy backing up an EVC onto the bus lift and maneuvering the EVC into the tie down is very difficult. I highly doubt "lazy" people would submit themselves to that for long.
Also EVC rental is quite expensive. My EVC cost over $200 to rent for one week. Most "lazy"people would rather spend the money on other things.
The EVC's that are loaded onto the buses are either privately owned or are rented from an offsite company.
I doubt that "lazy" people would think ahead enough to preorder an EVC from an offsite company.

So please wake up.
Sure there may be a few people who use EVC's because they are lazy but I am betting they learn quickly it not easy or fun to use an EVC at WDW.
I know I wish I did not need to use one but without an EVC WDW would be inaccessible to me.

Just my 2 cents.

Calm down. I'm sorry if I offended you, but the truth is I have read numerous threads on the DIS about people that admit to using an ECV because they'd rather not walk. I was addressing those guests, not anyone that actually needs one. Please don't try to turn my post into something it's not.

Very simple solution to the pool hopping, if you see someone pool hopping..as your complaining about it, its obvious you have seen someone pool hop... report them :thumbsup2
there is a large sign at the front of each resort pool stating the pool is for resort guest only. If you are bothered by pool hoppers, let the lifeguards know and they will ask for ID's and handle it. super simple solution to this debate :goodvibes

I am also sorry I came across a bit upset.

I have debated the ECV abuse use many times over the years and yes it is a sore subject to me because honestly I cannot fathom anyone useing an EVC (for more than a day) at WDW because they just don't want to walk.

They might use an EVC at Target or the local market because they do not want to walk.
But using one at WdW is so much more difficult I think they would find it not worth the effort.

I cannot look around and take in sights of WDW when I drive my scooter because I have to watch out for the person who may suddenly stop right in front of me, or not see me in his line of vision and walk right into the side of my scooter, or the little boy who followed behind me when I left the Land. I was going down the Handicapped Ramp and he skipped right into me because he was so excited and not watching where he was going. Thank goodess I heard his mom calling him and had slowed down to a crawl ( I always go very slow down that ramp BTW) so when he did run into me he was not hurt just startled.

Believe me I have no idea why anyone would rather use an EVC at WDW than walk.

Walking is sure a lot less never racking.

Just my 2 cents.

see... that IS good info I didn't know... And I hope that people start being more
curteous to you in the future. I try very hard myself to make every possible
accomodation for people who require/need assistance in transportation. I
sometimes have to walk a grey line between need and desire with those
scooters with my grandmother. She has had 4 knee surgeries but is a real
trouper. It took us some really push and shove to get her to use the scooter
so she wouldnt end up needing ANOTHER surgery. In the end it was a blessing
because my father twisted his ankle pretty bad on that trip and they both
took turns using the scooter...

I didn't realize the were so expensive... I don't recall them being so much
when we went in 2006 to WDW... and I can't remember how much at DL.

Also, to people who think I'm just baiting the fish. I'd kindly ask that you
discontinue this line of thinking. Far be-it from me to stop you from posting
but if thats all you are going to say, it's not moving the topic along and as
I said... my main intent was to UNDERSTAND the thought proccess of the
otherside. I wanted to see if maybe, just maybe there was a LEGITMATE
reason out there for doing things that seemed to be currently against rules
or morales.

It is not the same "lets whine about the rule breakers" threads I've seen
before. I had NO IDEA this was an issue till I saw it hear, and instead of
wanting to hear more about the rants and flames, I wanted to know WHY
it is done, what makes people do it and if this can really be justified or if
it is one of those mystieries where you have to be one to know one.

As I said previously, I am so glad that Disney makes accommodation for anyone needing help. My grandmother used a wheelchair before she passed, so I know how inconvinient it can be and also what a blessing it was for her to have. I realize that it must be very hard to navigate in a crowd, which is why I never got why anyone would use an EVC if not needed.

My post was actually based on several threads I read debating the issue on the DIS. Several people had posted saying they found it a convinient way to get around Epcot in particular. I remember thinking (I might have even posted) that it must be awful for anyone really needing an EVC and not being able to get one because someone that didn't need it rented it first. I realize now that I should have elaborated a little so I wouldn't have come across as being so out of it.

Please forgive me if I came across as being insensitive. :flower3:

Thank you for your kind words. I am also sorry I over reacted with my responce.

Peace:flower3:

Thankfully nobody in my family needs an ECV

I will say I would much rather an army of EVC'ers than 1 stroller nazi!!! :lmao:

Those stroller nazi's can be brutal!!!! :scared1:

If you look at Disney in Japan you would notice startling differences in the way guests behave. In Japan they have a lot of respect for property. It is to the degree that Disney can actually have displays that aren't bolted down, nobody will steal them. Because of this the costs involved in running a park are lower, shame we don't have that here.

I moved to a new development in an expensive neighborhood. Someone etched a message into the elevator door, people leave trash outside like they are in their home and they had to install security cameras in the gym because of property destruction. About 1/2 the owners are in their 20's and I'm amazed at how they can afford to buy property, my father didn't own a house until he was 63. I guess some of it has to do with easy credit, why bother caring about stuff if you can just replace it with something new and shiny?

maybe I am not looking into the issues enough, for one I would not even think of pool hopping either and I would not use an ECV if I didnt need one. The whole mug issue, I will tell you even though I have not done it, I dont really see what the big deal is. As far as the pool hopping maybe the person or persons that are doing it are not trying to be deceptive to everyone else at the resort, maybe they thought that since they were staying on property they could use any other pool. I dont think that everyone that does this has the mind set of "I'm going to do what I want no matter who it offends" I am sure that there are those that just dont care about what the actual rules are but I bet more often than not they maybe trying to make the most out of their vacation and making things easier on themselves, and lets all remember that not everyone knows about the DIS to help them go in the right direction. As far as using the EVC's I agree with the poster that stated that many people have situations that may not be visible.

We actually never use the pool at the resorts, but I'm just playing devil's advocate here.....

Could it be possible that a percentage of people actually don't know that it's not ok to pool hop? I'm only asking because my mom told me that when we were younger (1980's), pool hopping was actually allowed as long as you were a guest at one of the WDW resorts-i.e. if you are staying at Poly, you could hop over to the CR pool. So, if the last time you were at WDW was in the 80's & you were not a member of the Dis, might you not know these new rules?

These are the exact issues that made me decide to stay offsite to get a break after a day at the parks. I need a down time too. LOL It seems many havea sense of entitlement and who really cares what someone else does. I figure if its not my business and not hurting another physically than relaax its all good :hippie:

As a perk for the dvc member pool hopping is allowed. Just not at certain pools. (Ie stormalong bay and AKL pool to name a few that dont allow ool hopping.) This was true awhile ago not sure if still is.

I posted this in another thread, but wanted to share with you guys as well in case you missed it! Enjoy my Disney Intel!! :thumbsup2

I've heard this from a friend who's actually an imagineer,

Apparently what they are working on is a system that is used with your resort ID. What will happen (in the very near future I might add) Is that when you purchase your mug during that current stay, it will have a sleek coding printed around the lip of the mug, in order to use the mug at refill stations when you press it up to the dispenser the machine will read the code on your mug. If its valid the machine will dispense the liquid of your choice into the mug, if its not the liquid will not come out of the machine. They will link this to your resort ID, and this is how it will work. :scared:

As we all know resort ID's have just about every privileged on them, they serve many functions, and have the dates of your stay printed right on them too. when you purchase this mug, you will show your ID (only when purchasing) your Individual ID will be swiped then the mug will be scanned. they will do this for each quest in each party. ( So if DH is getting a mug his resort ID will be swiped and his MUG will be scanned. DS's getting a mug, his resort id is scanned etc etc..) Because this bar code will be specifically linked to your RID, its only valid for your own use during your stay. There are also going to be Mug refill stations only. for all of you who are wondering "what if I have a paper cup??" Also, the only other beverage you will be able to fill your mug with with out a scan is water. (becasue its FREE)

Also they have been discussing how to regulate mug rules, and apparently if you are cauht trying to fill your mug at regular station and its not a valid mug(IE a mug from your last trip) (because we all make mistakes sometimes! So if it was a valid mug but you were just not at the correct station))your mug will be confiscated and you will be made to pay for your drink. + they may place the incident on your DVVR, which to me is logical because you are stealing!!! This is also going to serve another purpose as well. Apparently they are going to be conducting and monitoring what the average guest is drinking and just how much use their getting out of their mug during the stay. Like a pumpkin, at the strike of midnight on your last days stay you mug will become inactive. Mugs will also be valid to use at parks as an additional privilege, (but this will come with a $$ higher price tag) Just another tool our RID will become in the near future.

I think this is another awesome Idea the imagineer's have cooked up. It makes me sad to think poor Disney has to resort to these measures. :sad2:

So for all you guys (and gals) out there who hate those repeat offenders.... dont worry their time is coming! for now, just feel proud that you are being an HONEST,DECENT, and RESPONSIBLE Disney guest!:worship:

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I also just wanted to say too, this posts about mugs and pools are getting nutty!! let find something else to talk about! Share the :lovestruc people!! Stop bringing up the silliness!

I posted this in another thread, but wanted to share with you guys as well in case you missed it! Enjoy my Disney Intel!! :thumbsup2

Cool idea! Thanks so much for passing along that info!

Do you know if you can use the mugs across resorts or just the resort you are staying at? This was unclear to us during our last trip.

THANK GOODNESS for park mugs-hooray!!!! :cool1: I've been hoping they'd do this! We got the one at DAK during our last trip, but I would have definately paid for one for each park.

My only minor complaint I have right now with the mugs is I wish there was a "bottled" (what I mean here is purified) water option for the mugs. I would rather be drinking bottled water than soda in the hot weather.

There are signs posted at every Disney resort stating the pool is for the resort guests only. At that resort not a different one.

DVC does have rules that allow them to visit certain pools.

Me, first -- I'm special! They've been telling me that since I was in kindergarten, nobody has ever held me accountable for my behavior, and I sure as heck ain't gonna let it start with YOU! Besides, I paid HUGE $$$ for this vacation, and Disney owes me big time. If there's no lock on the soda machine, that means I can take as much as I want without paying extra for it. Those of you who follow the "rules" are just stupid suckers, and you can spend more if you want to, but I'm not going to. I'll swim in whatever Disney pool I want, 'cause I paid for the privilege! Besides, everyone else does it (except the stupid suckers) and I'm not letting anyone else get an edge on MY vacation! What's it to you, anyway? I'm not getting in your way, messing up your vacation, am I? Keep your morals to yourself, and I'll do the same!

You hit the nail on the head! That's exactly what I think is going on - "entitlementality" :thumbsup2
