Pool Concerns

I've wanted to camp at FW since I was a kid and we are finally doing it in November. (Can't wait!) We've stayed on site several times before, mostly in DVC resorts. Each time, the pools have been great. Here is my concern ... I've heard some "not so good" things about the main pool ... too crowded ... too small ... not really themed, etc.

I'm not a pool snob (really, I'm not) ... but the pool is a hightlight of the trip for my kids and I want to prepare them for what to expect. Any thoughts on this would really be appreciated.

The pool was recently renovated and themed, but I am having a moment of "search deficit disorder" and can't find the thread where people got pics of the new pool. Anybody out there more mentally complete than I am today?

You've been snorting the Betadine preps at work again, haven't you Jim? :lmao:

Oh sure, find the thread I looked all over for. Go ahead, make me look bad, I don't care. I should never have made fun of Bobby, now he has scrambled the search feature for my screen name.

Bobby mentioned your name last night at dinner. He said it with an air of disgust and spat on the floor. I gave him a paper towel to clean it up. Nobody spats on my floor.

the pool is "ok." It has a slide that curves. My kids liked the slide for about 30 minutes. Then they complained that a girl and boy (younger than them, they are 9,9,11) were pushing to the front of the line each time. There was no life guard at the top of the slide to control things. There was a life guard at the bottom but he couldn't see the top and they didn't want to complain to him. Other than the slide it is a basic pool like at a hotel. It was pretty crowded last week, but last week was crowded everywhere. Although we were able to get a table and chairs. We also toured some of the other resorts and my DSs had definite pool envy when they saw the pools at those places (deluxe resorts).

"Pool envy" is definitely an issue for me since my kids have actually been to other pools.

The pool sucks,,stay away from it,, you wont like it. Trust me.

You seem to be forgetting the rather nice sprayground and hot tub. And the slide kept me happy for more than 30 minutes and I'm a grown-up... kinda. Course I was pushing my way to the front of the line to ride more often!

They said "little kids" but maybe they were describing you! My kids felt too old for the sprayground, although others may not. And the hot tub was jam packed with other little kids (and a couple of brave adults) the day we went, probably because it was breezy and the hot tub was the warmest place around.

We were at the Meadows Pool in October. It wasn't crowded at all and my kids loved the pool! I thought the slides and play area were nice ;)

I'm not big into pools, but my kids love the pool at Fort Wilderness. We usually go during Thanksgiving week and late March, and while it's sometimes tough to find a chair during Spring Break, the pool itself has never been so crowded that the kids didn't enjoy it. Even before the remodeling, during which the pool was "themed" and got a slide, the pool was large and fun. It's not Stormalong Bay, but it's not the "redheaded stepchild" pool anymore, either. FWIW, my kids have stayed at the Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, Pop Century and All Star Music, so they've seen other WDW pools, and the Fort pool holds its own in their eyes. The Beach Club pool is the only one they have "pool envy" about.

we stayed at wilderness lodge last year for 12 days and never got in pool so i think they owe me 1 and i am going to cash it in in june. The wife is not in agreement so me and the kids may have to do this on our on and maybe we will check out some more pools .we will post review of pools and if we got ran off or not.:grouphug:pirate::rolleyes:

If you are first in line for the slide in the morning....you get to announce the pool open by blowing a train whistle.....and you get to keep the whistle.

We went to the pool last August and we had never been to the main "big" pool. We always went to the one by the laundry facilities. Anyway the main pool was beautiful and not crowded at all. We must have gone when everyone was at the parks (it was around 2pm) and it was a HOT outside. The kids area was amazing.
