Pool closure at BWV

ktbugsmom- I hear ya!;) I see you are from WI...we are from MI....so we are always considering using the pool in Jan...heck, 60 is hot for us that time of year:lmao:
We are disappointed too.....but what can ya do?!?

Kamgen,
You are right! What can you do? My husband was going to call and see if they could switch us to Beach Club. Our guide was no help. But, understandable - that is not her area. He was going to call member services over his lunch hour and then email DVC member satisfaction. He is a very good negotiator - but not much to negotiate. The pool will be closed (can't change that!) and I am fairly certain aren't any rooms at BCV available - can't change that either... :sad2:

Silly question - is there a hot tub at the BWV quiet pool? If so - all might not be lost... as long as my daughter gets to swim and I can stay warm in a hot tub, life will be fine. Pathetic - we have been to BWV for the last 4 years and I have never even been in the quiet pool! I guess I should look at it as a new adventure. :goodvibes

Okay...question for you BCV experts....where can we change into dry clothing there? My dd is hoping to get in a swim or two in Jan (we're from Mass so don't need it to be 90 to swim but 70 would be nice) but I don't want to have to walk back and forth in my wet suit..yuck. The times I have used SAB I have been staying at BCV so didn't notice where I could change from a wet suit. So...here's hoping for at least one warmish day to swim and sit by the pool with a few adult beverages in hand.
Any advice as to changing?

We've changed at the health club when we've swam at SAB after check out. Since you're able to use the pool, I would assume that the changing facilities are yours to use as well.

I have never stayed at BWV before but we will be staying for 2 weeks in January. Does anyone know if there is a hot tub at the quiet pool? Thanks in advance.:thumbsup2

We have changed at a restroom near B&C if I remember correctly on check in and check out days when we stayed at BCV. It may be the one near the health club. I think I read somewhere last year that they had some CMs providing rides in golf cart type vehicles last year when the BWV pool was closed although maybe that was someone wishing they did that.

There is a hot tub at the BWV quiet pool. It is over by the entrance to the washrooms. Can't remember exactly, but it is a little hidden by foliage, I think.

There is also another quiet pool over on the Inn side but that is quite a walk. It is almost never used. Allthough with the main pool closed, I'm sure that the quiet pools will be much busier.

I guess we are 'not the norm'. We always spend our time at the BWV quiet pool. We may head over for a slide or two but during the day, it's at the quiet pool. The community room is right there and the kids can pop in and out for their activities while we enjoy the pool. Very convenient.

Having said that, I agree with the quiet nighttime swim in Luna. we've done that a few times. Just watch for the eyes of the clown to light up ! A little bit scary...

The letter that we received stated there will be a shuttle provided to SAB from BWV.

unfortunately January is the worst month to travel as far as refurb's go. from parks, to resorts, to even pools.

I realize its an inconvienance but theres not much you can do, the maintenance needs to be done and Jan is the ideal month to do it. Ive been to Orlando area several times in January and sometimes its great weather and sometimes its absolutley freezing, I mean jacket and sweater cold.

so yes some people are losing out on some pool time, but Jan has to have the least amount of pool hours of any month; between the weather and off season travel period

if they didnt maintain the pool, there would be a thousand posts here saying how disgusting the pool was.

sjdisneywedding,
I completely understand the need for re-furbishing things at WDW and DVC. We go every January - and we know some of our favorite rides will be shut down during that time - but there are 4 parks and tons of rides and shows - so we can deal with that. It has to be done. I know this.

My biggest issue is that I plan 11 months out and book my reservations. I am told by DVC that I need to do this if I want a specific reservation. I added a reservation about 7.5 months out - and was waitlisted - but it came through - so the need to plan in advance is evident.

Therefore, it is completely unreasonable to me is that DVC can contact me 45days prior to my vacation to let me know of this major change. What are my options at this point?

To me, I am not getting a "deluxe" resort at this point without the theme pool. I am getting a deluxe room - with a Holiday Inn pool (no offense to Holiday Inn - but they usually don't have a theme pool). Not what I paid for or planned for.

Hence, my frustration. But, I will deal. I will be disappointed and a little annoyed - but I will still be at Disney, right?

PS We have even gone swimming in January when it was "sweater and jacket cold". People thought we were crazy, but we had a ball and we were not the only ones in the pool.

I know, its tough to take,

maybe a letter will convey the disappointment and in the future will help avoid this.

I dont think its completely unreasonable to let guests know in advance or refurb work

Im not sure they will always be able to tel us 11 months in advance though

nw that is crazy:goodvibes

we are from CT and will go in when others dont, but I think ou have us beat there

The letter that we received stated there will be a shuttle provided to SAB from BWV.

Did the letter specify the exact dates the pool would close and reopen? We don't have a letter (yet), we arrive Feb 10, so I am hoping that we are good, but would like to confirm that as best as I can.

No, the letter does not provide an exact end date. Just early February.

As for DVC providing advance notice, I don't think they know the exact dates more than 2 months ahead of time. The rehab of one item is dependent upon when the previous rehab is completed. Sure, 3 or 4 months out they know that a rehab of the BWV pool will be coming up sometime, but not exactly sure when. If they notified you at that point that the pool will be closed when you are there and then it isn't because the previous rehab took longer than expected you would be angry because you changed to a different resort because they told you Luna Park was going to be closed and then it wasn't.

sjdisneywedding,
I think for those of us who frequent these boards get too particular about our reservations! I am definitely on the top of that list. And due to my planning nature, I get irked that others can't plan like I do! So - I am just sad that my beloved evil clown slide and pool will be shut down. Oh well. My husband wrote DVC member services an email to explain our dissatisfaction. They have 5 business days to respond - but like I told him, I really don't think there is anything they can do for us. But, he felt that they should be aware that we are not getting what we paid for... so we will see.

But - I am done pouting! :lmao: I will not be a sour puss about this anymore! :thumbsup2 I love WDW. I love BWV. I love DVC. So - we will make the most of it - and hopefully heading over to BCV will be not be such a pain. And, now my husband suggested that we take the kids to the Polynesian early on the night we have a reservation at Ohana and they can swim in the volcano pool - some thing we have never done. So - new adventures!
