Pool at Poly is such a let down!

I have to agree with the OP. While I don't endorse pool-hopping at all, I'm a fan of bar-hopping. ;-) Sometimes resort lounges don't open til late afternoon, so if you're visiting a resort and want to relax with a drink in the early afternoon, the pool bar is really the only way to do it. Don't see why those need to be behind fences along with the pool.

Not sure what time the other lounges at Poly open, though, so maybe there are other options.

The BC/YC did a good job in making the pool both welcoming to non-resort guests while still keeping the pool exclusive to resort guests.

It's a bit PIA! It takes a good 10m just to go out there, get your drink, then wait in line to get your MB scanned. I'm guessing the majority of the business is coming from pool guests. For us, they lose a lot of business because I'd rather bring a cooler of stuff than drag one kid out with me every time someone wants a drink or food.

Or maybe it's their way of reducing the crowd at the pool?

All, I did not write that well, forgive me. My point is I felt like like a second class citizen here. They physically split the bar in two like something out of a sci-fi apocalypse movie. One side for guests and the other side for non-guests. I think WL did it better, left it all open, and maybe AKL did too? The "terrace" is actually about 1/4 mile walk all the way around the pool because it's permanently blocked off now for some reason. I don't mind grabbing a drink and walking around, but it's the fence that just totally needs to go or more space given to those visiting and not interested in swimming.

SAB has a divided fence to at their pool bar. If they had the pool bar outside the fence at Poly, then the people at the pool would have to get out and walk around the fence. So someone's going to be unhappy. At least there's the Trader Sam's patio as a great option.

I havent been yet, but already dont like the loungers. If I wanted to lay down, Id go back to my room. I like to sit in a chair, preferably at a table. Im no spring chicken so getting up from the lounger could take a while

Good thing there's a mix of both. We prefer lounges! I like having my legs up after being on them walking for hours.

I was a Poly guest recently and visited the pool bar from the outside of the fence (by choice/convenience, as I wasn't swimming at the time). I chose to take my drink to the beach, sitting on a curb with my toes in the sand, even though I could have gone inside the fenced area. I thought it was awesome! I also would have enjoyed taking my painkiller out on the dock, sitting on a bench and watching the boats go by. (By the way, have I mentioned how happy I am that they serve painkillers now?)

That said, I'm sorry to hear the OP felt like a second-class citizen.

While I don't much like the look of the fence or the extra concrete or the rows of loungers on the pool deck, I recognize the need for these. It is unfortunate that it is necessary to keep people from breaking the rules to have a fence around the pools. More space and additional shading would be nice around the pool, but I'm guessing that they wanted to provide as much 'seating' around the pool as possible to accommodate their guests.

The pool bar needs to be accessible to those using the pool, therefore it makes sense to have it inside to make it convenient for those at the pool to use it. I think that allowing access to an area of the pool bar for those not able or not wanting to go into the pool area is a nice consideration. AND, it's not like there is no where else at the Poly to have a drink outside.

I felt second class, because they caged in all the tables and chairs, yet left a little of the bar open for those without clearance to buy a drink. You just can't sit in first class, or sit at all really. I even tried to go in with my wrist band, no luck. They are only required to fence the pool, not the whole area.

Oh, now your comment makes sense. You wanted to be able to get a drink and have a seat at the pool bar but could not. I agree that is a miss by Disney. They easily could throw some seats on the other side of the fence. Unfortunately the fence is required so they don't have a choice there. I agree it doesn't help the view and I'm sure Disney agrees with you as well. But their hands are tied.

It was a little bit of a pain to go outside of the gate at storm-a-long bay to get a drink, then have to get scanned to get back in. This way I can see it as the best of both worlds. The people staying there at the pool don't need to deal with going outside the gate and getting back in, and the people visiting can hang at the pool bar on the other side!

I don't remember having to leave SAB to get to the pool bar at BC/YC. The bar is right in the middle of SAB. Or is my memory failing again? lol

Recent posts on Tikiman's FB page are stating that the gate is not locking properly and that people who are not Poly guests are still getting in to enjoy the pool.

I had read that on his page a while back and was wondering if they had yet tightened up the screws on pool hoppers.
