Pooh sized and airline seats

What I found very telling about last night's Airline episode is that SWA went out of it's way to make sure the tall passengers were accomodated. The allowed both tall people to pre-board specifically so they would get the much desired emergency exit row. Why is that? Is it ok to be tall at SWA but not heavy? Why not allow pooh-sized people two seats unless the flight is sold out and then offer them a choice? These are all meant to be rhetorical questions really. I do understand why the airlines and SWA more specifically needs to make very large people have two seats but it just seems that the rule isn't applied equally.

this doesn't always work. sometimes my legs hit the seat in front of me (depending on the kind of plane and i can't stretch my legs out regardless of if there is luggae there or not).

Good point. I won't fly on the little commuter planes (I'm a chicken), so I didn't take those into consideration the legroom on smaller planes.

SWA's policy is for the POS to purchase the additional seat prior to flying. If the flight isn't full, the passenger may request a full refund on the second seat.

Yes, but if armrests go up, isn't the airline implicitly saying that leaving them up is within their policies as well?

Sure - but you have to be able to get them back down as well, when the seat is occupied. Same way as if a seat was stuck in the reclined position, and it couldn't come back up, they wouldn't be willing to sell the seat (actually, they'd probably ground the plane)

That's my point exactly.

Why didn't they make the tall people buy an extra ticket or pay more since they needed to be guaranteed an exit aisle seat to be able to fit on the plane? I just really think they way that they put together last night's episode really made SWA look kind of bad last night.

The really tall guy did not require an additional seat because of his size. He fit quite easily into a single seat. He was seated in an exit row at SWA's decision to try to provide him a comfortable flight. The same way they would want to be sure a POS and all other passengers were comfortable on a flight.

The tall gentleman's issue was LENGTH, not BREADTH.

Well, a tall person's body doesn't encroach into their seatmate's seat.

SWA goes above and beyond to make sure their passengers are happy and comfortable. In every business, there are unhappy customers. Unfortunately, last night's episode may not have been the most positive for the airline's image, but overall the show has shown SWA to be quite accomodating.
