Pooh - a Thoughtful Thought

I find it very sad and strange that - in our area, at least - little four year old children have somehow all banded together and decided that "Pooh is for babies." Isn't that ridiculous? But it is unanimous. They will have nothing to do with him past that age - in WDW or elsewhere! I, personally, have ALWAYS loved Pooh, and think my own kids are missing out because some 4 year old somewhere once made this statement. Has this been anyone else's experience???

I was surprised to find my youngest daughter giving up Pooh at an early age - and adamantly against Pooh now, even though her older sister loves him! I think they do come back to Pooh at some point..... but it means I've never been to Crystal Palace!

I must have the unusual children. My girls are 10 and 14 and we all love Pooh! In fact, for my 14 year old, the Hundred Acre Wood characters are her favorite of all! We love the Pooh ride and Crystal Palace is a favorite dining spot.

all the kids I've noticed around Pooh here love him, at every age. Now, those are just the ones I've noticed, but, I teach in an elementary school....................and all the boys and girls through 3rd grade like Pooh, and girls past 3rd in public, the boys do not beginning the later part of 3rd grade, but I believe that's just in public, as my 4th grade son was adamant that we go to Crystal Palace, and was very excited to see Pooh while there. When I see kids outside of school, in the mall, etc.........the same ages seem to enjoy Pooh videos, toys and decor. My 4th grade son will watch Pooh movies with his 2 year old brother, and on the one occasion his friend stopped by while he was watching it, they both watched the end of the movie.

Same here. My son (3rd grade) has been done with Pooh since right before kindergarten. He would absolutely kill me if I tried to book CP. He said if he wore any Disney at all to school other than Stitch or the Incredibles, (sometimes Mickey is ok too) he would be seriously made fun of! Oh how fast they grow up.

As a big Pooh fan myself, my sons had Pooh ingrained from day 1. Sadly, now 8 and 6 they they haven't seemed very interested in the last few years. Then a few weeks ago when planning on which charactor meals to make a PS for my youngest said "Pooh Mom, cause he's your favorite!" and the other day they saw the trailer for the new Pooh Heffalump movie and both said that they wanted to go see it! So there may be hope for raising life long Pooh fans yet.......

This year I gave my 7 yo ds the option of CP or Breakfasaurus. He picked CP with Pooh and the gang so his little sister dd almost 2 yo could see Pooh, he wants to see Eeyore. He was an all time Tigger fan, but has now decided that Eeyore needs a friend since he always seems so sad. My ds is very sensitive to others feelings. Have always tried to instill in him to be a leader and not a follower and not let other people tell him what to like and not like. He proudly took his photo album of last years trip back to first grade last year after spring break and we saw characters from Pooh, Tiger, & Piglet to Jafar, even pictures with princesses.

My kids DD12 (almost 13) and DS7 adore Pooh. My daughter must have a picture with Eeyore by herself when we go.

My 2 DD 8 & 13 love the Pooh characters especially EEyore. In fact they syill have the stuffed animals in their rooms.....But ask them to wear any clothes with those characters.....no way!!!! And it's been like this for quite a while.

My dd 13 doesn't even want to wear a t-shirt with any of the characters on them...not even those new vintage type Mickeys....However she's a stuffed animal freak!!!!that and the pins, and all the other knick knacks found at WDW.

I personally love my mickey PJ's....my pooh socks, and my pins I'm a big Disney freak!!!!!

Another vote for Pooh. This is my all time FAVORITE ride. We ride it first thing ebery year. My DD 9 enjoys the ride and CP, just not as much as mom.

My dd's (8 and 11) are very anti-Pooh. They have been told that we will go on the Pooh ride once because I like it. If anyone complains about this ride before, during or after, they will ride it again and again until they can control themselves. Furthermore, if anyone whines or complains during our trip, I will make a PS at the Crystal Palace for our last day in MK, and I will take lots of pictures.

My dd 11 absolutely loves Eeyore and the rest of the Pooh gang as well. She is the one most excited about the new Heffalump movie.

Ds 5 also likes the Pooh gang and wants to see the movie, but he will no longer wear his Tigger hat to school, because some of the other kids were teasing him about it. In kindergarten! That makes me sad. We had a discussion about either ignoring the teasing or things that he could say to the teasers ("I like this hat. It's warm and comfortable. My grandma made this hat for me.") I wanted him to know that he didn't have to cave to a few people's thoughts. He was very receptive to the conversation (and those were his quotes), but he hasn't put that hat on again (and I haven't wanted to make a big issue out of it).

Ds 13 doesn't have a strong feeling one way or the other. He was happy enough to go to CP, because he knows that his sister, brother, and mother really wanted to go. He wouldn't have chosen it on his own, though.

My DS11 has gone through many phases like that. I don't really notice it with DD5.
When DS was 4 he refused to wear anything with Mickey on it. Up until our first WDW trip he was like that, he was 8 then.
I think actually meeting Mickey did the trick. He loves the Mouse now, watches House of Mouse, wears Mickey tee's all the time.

He also loves Tigger, but will not wear anything with Tigger on it. We couldn't leave CP until he had seen Tigger and had a pic made with him! He doesn't want anyone at school to know how much he loves Tigger. I asked him if it was okay to sacrifice who he is just to appear cool? He said no, but I understand it is a hard issue. I did point out that there are probably a lot of "in the closet" 100 Acre Wood fans in middle school......

I don't know if it is that kids are growing up too quick or we are making them lose their innocence too soon.........
