My kids are four and one and love horses! I would love for them to take a pony ride at the ranch at the Wilderness campground. Did anyone do the pony rides with their kids before? Are there specific times/days or reservations to worry about? Thanks

I think they are pretty much there all day every day weather permitting. No reservations are needed. Your one year old won't be able to ride though. They don't allow children to ride until they are 2, but you can always let your oldest ride and then walk over to the horse barn with them both to see the big horses they use in the parades and on Main Street.

We've done this a couple times and it's really fun. My 4 year old loves it. You get to lead them around on a pony. There is an adorable white pony named Cinderella. She was the sweetest! I think the pony rides run during the day time most days, if not every day. The minimum age is 2, so the little one will have to miss out. But there are the big horses to go visit in the barn and there are also some miniature horses that my girls loved! The little horses would stick their heads out of the fence so they could be pet and hugged.
Oh thanks I wasn't aware that the baby couldn't ride yet....oh well, next year! DD will want to though DS will be happy just to see the ponies and horses. I can't wait to ride the boerses with my DD when she gets older.
This had to be one of the best values of our trip in January!! $5 for once around the ranch, and our DD6 *loved* it - I think she would have been happy to go again! It was a much better ride than the same price at our local fair - which is more like a merry-go-round on real ponies.
Of course, what we got out of it was a DD who now wants to take horse back riding lessons! So maybe it wasn't that great a value - $5 for the first ride, then $$$ once we get home!

I loved horses and riding at that age too! Definately check into riding lessons for her if you can afford it. If it is something she loves you may be surprised at where it goes from there I think some places have an age limit (it might be six or seven) for lessons. Have fun and if she doesn't take lessons find a ranch in your area that does trail rides
