Ponchos

The Disney ones were lifesavers during our trip in 2014 when it rained on and off everyday. They are currently packed for our upcoming trip next month and in great shape.

Mark us down as another family that uses the lightest rain jackets we can find. I find them easy to reroll and put back in my bag. We haven't tried any of the poncho alternatives to the ones sold in the park, but I prefer jackets to the park ponchos.

It really depends on where you buy the cheap ponchos. I've gotten dollar store ponchos in orlando before and they were HORRIBLE. I then bought some for another trip here at home for a dollar and they are on probably they're tenth trip now. We use them in the rain and on splash. It's easy to tell the difference between which ones will last and which won't. Try Walmart or the dollar store, but if it fails the disney ones are expensive but will last your whole lifetime, just about

Love the Disney ones. We bought ours on our first trip in 2012 and have used the same ones for at least a trip every year since. We have also used them in other situations. They are very durable, and in my opinion, not that expensive. Some of the longer, sturdier ones found at sporting good stores are nice, because they keep your legs drier, especially if you are tall. However, they are bigger when rolled up and might be hotter during warmer weather.

We loved the park ponchos. Very durable and kept us dry.

Wow, thank you all so much. You've given me some good info. I think I'll buy a cheap one or two for an emergency or to cover a bench if needed, and then get a Disney one to wear.

Yes. We used the red kids sized ones from Amazon last year. Of the 4 we used, one ripped after a full day of rain in AK but the rest survived two days of intermittent rain in the park and being pulled on and off multiple times. We also had some of the clear adult size, also from Amazon, but I was the only one wearing those. I think mine lasted both days, but I can't really remember. They're super light and easy to throw in a backpack. That's the most important thing to me so I'm willing to put up with some that rip to avoid using the much heavier but more durable kind.

We bought the ones at Wal-Mart and they have held up well. My girls loved that they had pink ones when we bought them 3 years ago.

we never used ponchos when i was growing up but we always we3nt the second half of november and it generally did not rain.

after my first trip that was not in november i decided ponchos were a good idea.

i used a disposable one once and it ripped immediately.

i bought a disney poncho and it lasted me several trips but i caught it on a railing after a few trips and it ripped.

i bought a new disney poncho and it has lasted me 7 trips and is still in perfect condition.

i would not recommend disposable.

i'd recommend spending the about $8.50 on a disney one as they are very good quality.

I love love love Disney ponchos. I have one from over 10 years ago that I still use at home for sporting events, and I've bought another at Disney since then. They're great quality and seem to dry faster and stick to you way less than the cheaper ones.

We buy $7-$10 ones at Academy (or Dicks) and use those. Not to bulky but durable.

My main suggestion is get ones with drawstrings by the neck so you can tighten them and prevent water draining in through your head opening. We go in Sept with daily showers, so ponchos are a must for us.

last time i bought one at the parks it was for my niece and it was $8.50 although when i looked on the disney store website they are $9.39 so the price must have gone up a bit.
still well worth it when you can buy one and reuse it over and over.

we bought ponchos at disney and they were reasonably priced. $7 for adult, i think or maybe $8? $1 less for child. we wore ours for 3 out of 6 days and we kept them as souvenirs. my DD loves wearing hers now and shows them to all her friends.

I buy the cheap $1 ones in advance. We've been going in the not-so-rainy seasons so they haven't been opened but I got them as a temporary thing for the freak storm or to get us to a store for the Disney ponchos. Now that we are going in July, I bought some lightweight rain jackets since it will rain for sure.

I have a combination of ones. If it maybe, might rain and I'm wearing something with pockets, I'll take a cheap disposable one since they can be folded up to next to nothing. If it is September and you can set you clock by the fact that IS going to rain and that rain is most likely going to be a gully washer, I have a clear raincoat similar to the ones the CMs wear that I take. It can be folded down pretty far but still needs at least a small cross body since it won't fit in pockets, even a man's cargo. I'm height challenged so it comes almost down to my ankles and I have to roll up the sleeves, the snaps are pretty sturdy and the hood had a bill and a drawstring. When I have that sucker a hurricane can blow through and I'm not getting wet. If it's probably going to rain but it's not supposed to be a gully washer, maybe a longer shower type rain, I'll take an umbrella. Sometimes, what I'm wearing dictates what I'm taking but I'm rarely in the parks without some kind of rain gear.

I used to be a Dollar Tree poncho guy, then we forgot them on a trip and had to buy the Disney ponchos out of necessity. Now we much prefer those--thicker, more coverage and Disney will replace them for free if they tear.
