Does anyone know how much the ponchos cost in the park? I am trying to decide whether or not to buy them before-hand. Thank you!!

about $8.50.
i would not purchase cheap ones from walmart if thats what you are thinking.
they truly are CHEAP and they easily rip.
where as my newest disney world one has gone on 7 trips and is still just fine and ready to go for the next trip.

Ok we used dollar store ponchos on our trip. We just got back last week & we ended up using them 3x times & they worked great! We threw them away but could have easily used them again.

I did hear IKEA has ponchos if you wanted a nicer less expensive option.

We've done a variety of things.

One trip, we brought dollar store ponchos. Never again - they were short, sleeveless, and if you have hair they will not stay on your head.

Next trip, we bought Coleman ones (at Big Lots for around $5). Much better quality and kept us dry, but a pain to carry around before the rain and an even bigger pain to carry after the rain.

Last trip, we didn't bring anything and waited until it started raining and then just stopped to buy the Disney ones. A few bucks more, but good quality and we didn't have to hassle with carrying them around before the rain. When it stopped raining, I rolled it up and was able to tie it around my cross body bag, so it wasn't a huge hassle to carry around.

We've done it in the past -bringing a rain poncho. It was a hassle lugging them around and we never used them. On our last trip, we agreed that a few extra dollars was completely worth the convenience of not lugging them around. nearly EVERY gift shop has them behind the cash and if they tear, they get replaced. Easy peasy. It's worth my extra few dollars not to have to keep track of them. :-)

We always bring the walmart ones. They are small and easy to carry and if we do need one they are cheap enough that we just toss it when we are done. I only use them if it's really rainy not just for light rain or sprinkles. I bought a dozen in 2009 and I think I still have one from that original purchase.

Thank you everyone for your responses! I didn't think anyone replied because I never got the notification until today! I think I'm just going to wait and buy there if I end up needing it.

Do they offer kid and adult sizes?

Yes, but it's just one kids size, as opposed to say, small, medium and large. I've seen younger children (like 3, 4 years old) just swimming in them.

You can buy the Disney ponchos thru the Disney store but wait until they have a 20-30% off sale and free shipping. I read somewhere on these boards that if they tear or the snaps come break you can take them to any WDW store that carries them and they will replace them.

We bought cheapies for our trip last year in September and they did not hold up to the 2-3 days of rain we had and ended up buying WDW ponchos instead.

we still have the ones we bought in Disney in 2010 and take them every trip! They are made very well! Our daughter was 3 at the time and hers still fits her (she is now 7) :)

We have the yellow ones, over 10 years old and go every trip with us...trip 52 was a few weeks ago... They are huge, cover well and dry fast...when folded properly, are very compact and small...

Those dollar store Saran Wrap clinging throw aways are crap, plain and simple ....

My family of 4 has always used the cheesy dollar store ponchos...they are so flimsy and stick to your body. Just checked Disney Store online and they are $5 each if you buy 2 or more. Just paid $24 (including shipping) for 4 ponchos. Well worth it, I'm sure!!

I was there about a week and a half ago and the adult sizes were $9. Our family brings either the $2 clear plastic ones from Walmart or the $5 more durable ones from Walmart. They work fine for us, and then if you just bring either a plastic grocery store bag or even a Disney shopping bag, you can stuff them in that once you are done using them.

I bought a Frogg Toggs brand poncho for my February trip this year. Liked it much better than the WDW ones; it's good sized, has a drawstring hood, and made of breathable fabric. I carried it when the forecast called for rain. Actually, when the forecast called for rain, I carried a sweatshirt so brought my backpack, so the poncho fit well when not in use. But I could have fit into my cross-body Baggallini if I'd needed to. I came with its own waterproof storage bag.

On the days when the forecast didn't call for rain, I carried the small Coleman "emergency" ponchos just in case. Worked like a charm.
