We are staying at our first deluxe resort and we've decided on Poly:cool1: I'd just like to hear anything you have to say about this lovely resort and also about staying at deluxe resorts. I'm very excited and would love to hear from you. TIA

The Polynesian is my favorite resort. There is a website that has soooo much information on it - http://tikiman2001.homestead.com/

I don't stay there too often anymore - I'm too cheap to. :) But it's beautiful, and my family stayed there every year when I was growing up (I've probably spent 80 nights of my life there). The rooms are pretty newly redone, in the last couple of years - just as the WL and CR have been.

Ahhhhhh....the POLY, my first (1971) and still my favorite WDW Resort!

Wonderful location, theme, views, Monorail, Volcano and quiet pool, GCH, Etc...etc...etc..

I've been there too many times to count and it NEVER gets old! :goodvibes

Have fun!!!:thumbsup2

You will love it. One of the nice things is to be able to swim in the pool at night and still be able to watch Wishes from there or the beach! Make sure to make and ADR for Kona and Ohana, we love both of them (we like the breakfast and the dinner). Poly is a very relaxing resort so try to take some time to just enjoy the resort. You will love the convenience of the monorail and ferry to MK and you can even walk to the TTC to catch the EPCOT monorail. Have a wonderful time.

We wouldn't DREAM of staying anywhere else! POLY has it all. We were in longhouse Tokelau, a perfect location, midway between the lobby and the TTC. You made a perfect choice!

We are going to Disney in May for our first family trip to WDW and we too are staying at Poly.

I just requested the Tokelau longhouse, looked like a nice location. Does one side of the building have better views? I requested a first floor so we will see what happens.

I agree....
wishes from the pool area is awesome....then the electrical
pageant...
Do u have kids....great kids club...
Kona Cafe....best 1 tableservice....IMO...
Enjoy....I will stay there one day...I need a code....

Actually I could have gotten the poly at 294...ap rate for
5-22 for 2 nights.....I decided to stick with my dvc ressie...
I will stay there soon:goodvibes ...i hope...

You are so lucky! The Poly is the absolute perfect resort! Take advantage of all the resort has to offer by scheduling time to spend there, drenching yourselves in the sights, sounds and smells of the resort. Enjoy the pool area, the Tambu lounge, the restaurants (our personal favorite is dinner at 'Ohana), try the Luau, take a hula lesson. Appreciate the view from the beach by day and night, the torches, the foliage and the tiki carvings. Then basque in the no-hassel transportation to all the parks...aaaahhh!

My family just loves it, and we do everything in our home to keep the Poly spirit alive between visits, like listen to our downloaded Polynesian music, eat special family dinners with Polynesian accents, virgin pina coladas...we even wear our leis every now and then. Ummm, maybe that sounds a bit...obsessed? Warning, ktink, you might get hooked! :cloud9:

Thanks everyone. After reading all of these replies I'm grinning from ear to ear and literally bouncing in my seat

As for ADRs we have already scheduled 1 @ O'hana & 1 @ Kona. Keep your thoughts and experiences coming. TIA

ktink....
I can definitely share in your excitement! We are doing a Christmas Grand Gathering at the Poly this year and I think I am going to go nutty from anticipation! DH just doesn't get it and thinks it is nice but nothing to go  over......
I highly recommend the tikiman website...it gives a history of the Poly & the other monorail resorts which was really interesting.

Have a great time!

Oh where do I start? This is my favorite of all the resorts. You have a zero depth entry pool. you can watch wishes from the beach. You can walk to the TTC and head to Epcot. You can take a boat or monorail to MK. You can sometimes hear the train and the noises from Magic Kingdom way early in the morning.

Here's Tikiman's website

wheeeee
I am just as excited for our trip in June...I stayed there when i was a little girl and have always wanted to go back!
Everytime i go to WDW we stop there for some Ohana action ( delicious and soooo fun!)..but this time it will be our "home" for the week..and of course our first dinner is at Kona...first time there..:)

We're going to the Poly in June too, first time in the park in 20 years. Kids have never been. I'm so excited!!!! We requested Tahiti. We have reserved a garden room, but I'd love to be upgraded to a MK view! (It's my dream!!!!)

Anyway, I have two questions for Poly experts.
1) Does the launch go straight to the MK or stop at TTC?
2) How often do people get their longhouse request?

Doing the hula as I type...

Tikiman's website is the best! I've done some research and requested nonsmoking, Samoa, 3rd Floor. I think this would suit our needs better.

What's your fave longhouse?

On the launch which are you referring to? the boat at the hotel goes this. MK-GF-Poly-MK. The one at the TTC goes from TTC-MK-TTC

We stayed there reluctantly last year (reluctantly because we loved the WL and didn't want to pay the big bucks for the Poly but had to with the "baby" now too big to be in a crib). But we fell in love with the Poly and everyone in the family has decided this is the "only" place to go for us. So we're returning this July as well.

Great restaurants, great transportation, great pool, great views from the beach, great rooms, great atmosphere. You'll love it.

I can feel the joy and anticipation eminating from your post. You are going to have such a great time. The Poly is a wonderful resort. I remember how exited I was my first stay there. It was everything I expected it to be. In August I will be returing for my 3rd time and am just as exited as the first time. You won't be disappointed. Take time to walk the grounds late at night. The tiki tourches are really cool. I get such a kick out of watching one light up automatically if the wind blows it out. This resort has lots of Disney magic. See EWP from the beach. Walk out onto the dock and take lots of pictures of GF. The view is awsome, especially at night. Rent a Sea Racer and take your camera. When you are out on the Seven Seas Lagoon in one, and look around, it is like looking at a post card! Eat at every restraunt there. Grab a drink at the Timbuktu Lounge. Most of all, enjoy every minute you get to spend there. The memories will last a lifetime!

Well this sure didn't help me calm down any. Thanks for all the great tips. The kids don't know that we're staying there. We're going to try and let it be a major surprise.

You also may want to consider 1st floor facing the Volcano Pool. We did that 3 years ago and I ALMOST preferred it over staying in Hawaii. It was so nice to walk out the slider and get right into the pool. The kids loved that as well.

Have fun!! We'll be there with Tikiman and family July 27th.
