Hi everyone
Just wondering if anyone has ever stayed at the Polynesian Resort? We usually go to WDW in the end of August/beginning of September, but with our schedule this year we are not able to go duing that time. So,we plan on going December4-10, which we heard is a great time and is value season, but maybe not for the Yacht Club (where we usually stay) because we didn't see any deals or packages like we usually get, so we are thinking about either the Polynesian or the Animal Kingdom Lodge (the only thing with the A.K.L. is that it is pretty far away from the rest of the World). So any info about the Polynesian resort would be GREAT!!!!!!!!! Thnx for any help!!!!! :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsboy:

I have stayed at the Poly 3 times & I have never been disappointed. It is very relaxing, very tropical, and as a plus, the rooms are all being renovated! (I'm pretty sure that the rooms are done, but you might want to check that). The pool area is really nice...there's a big pool with a volcano & water slide (it tends to attract the kiddos) and another quiet pool a few minutes away for the adults. The rooms are all huge compared to the other newer resorts. being on the monorail is great...makes it very easy to get around. The Kona Cafe is a really good restaurant, and although O'hana's is not my favorite, they do have a nice character breakfast. The resort is pretty big & you'll be walking a lot, but the walkways are all beautiful & at night they light them with tiki torches...it's so lovely!

I have never stayed at the AKL but I have family who has & they were not impressed. It is really far removed from everything except AK & Blizzard Beach & the buses were pretty slow when they were there.

I would go with the Poly if it were my decision to make...it is a favorite among the DISers for a good reason!

Enjoy!!

HI-
First of all, the Poly is fabulous!! I have stayed at most of the resorts, and I really really love this hotel. I have to warn you though, it is a LOT different than what you are used to at the Yacht Club. Poly is VERY laid back, and relaxed, and actually...dark. People who want a light and bright hotel (like the Beach Club or Floridian) may be a little surprised at how dark the decor is. The pool, although nice, is not anywhere as nice as Stormalong Bay.
However.... It is a very very special place.
It is really magical to see the castle changing colors from the beach, (maybe even your room, if you book a castle view- that is a special category starting in January) as well as the electrical water parade and fireworks at night. The excitement and convienience of riding the monorail from your hotel is a huge selling point for the Poly. I think that you'll find that most of us who are entranced with the Poly love it without being able to accurately describe why. It's about the feeling that you have there, more than the decor or amenities. Try to find Tikiman's Polynesian website. He captures the essence of the Poly very well in his awesome site- lots of pictures and information. The first week of December is a great time to go!!Good Luck, and Have a great trip!

We stayed at the Poly for the first time this year. We are BC lovers and I was a little afraid of the dark(we didn't care for the wilderness lodge because of this) But the Poly was actually right up our alley! It was a little dark but not depressing. The MK view rooms started several months ago- so that will cost extra to guarantee that but we booked a lagoon view room and we could see the castle. The way they determined MK view is they opened the door and looked out the windows from the doorway- if they could see the MK it was MK view if not well then not.. So you couldn't see the castle from the doorway- but step into the room and sit on the bed and you could see it. If you went out to the patio you could see it! It was all wonderfull. And watching the fireworks everynight from your room is a fantastic thing if you have small children. You can walk to the Monorail at the TTC to take you to EPCOT. And it is just a short ride on the monorail from the hotel to MK but we preferred the cute little boat that takes you over from the Poly. All in all now in our top three. And I would say the size of the bathroom now puts it ahead of the BC in our book. I would say this is our new favorite(we have stayed GF, BC, YC, WL, CSR, Swan, Dolphin and now the POLY!)

We love The Poly for so many reasons:

*The monorail is so convienent
*The ambienance (sp?) is fantastic
*The pool is the best
*The view of the castle across Seven Seas Lagoon is beautiful
*The beach for the kids to play on is alot of fun
*Captain Cook's has good food all day and night
*The Kona Cafe is right there (Tonga Toast) :goodvibes
*The Kona Coffee bar is also right there (yummy!!!) :goodvibes
*You have a great view of the Electric Water Parade
*I love laying on a hammock on the beach

That's all I can think of for now. We will be returning to The Poly in September and I can hardly wait!!! :cool1:

We stayed at the POLY the first time and really loved it. The next time we stayed at POFQ and fell in love with it more. So, now we stay there. The Poly was nice since it has a quiet pool and we played there more than the one with the slide. The DD's liked it since it wasn't so crowded. The rooms are spacious and if you go to relax, the hammocks by the beach were really enjoyable. The show across the lake is cool too. We really liked it, we just like the FQ more now. Good luck on your decision.
:confused3

The Poly is our all time favorite, mine, DH's, DS's, & DD's.

DH & I loved it for the romantic swings on the beach which we sat in while the kids played in the sand and for the romantic torches and music playing during the evening. DS & DD loved the zero entry pool and the ability to play in the sand right next to the pool. We all loved the restaurants (Tonga toast and Kona coffee), the Electric water pagent, the monorail to MK, the other resorts and the monorail to Epcot from the TTC.

We all liked AK too but its very different from the Polnesian.

Good luck with your choice.

Hi Slo

we'll be staying there dec 7-10 for the first time as well! sadly, we didn't find any discounts at all other than the "value season" rate--unless they announce something in the near future. we wanted the mk access since ds will be 23months, it's only 3nts and that is our main destination:), AAA did have a discount available for BC--i think $288/nt??? i can't remember now.
