Hi,

Thinking of a stay here next year as the resort looks fabulous.

Can anyone share experiences of staying there, especially which part of the resort is preferred as it is split between several different sections such as Samoa (our possible choice) and Hawaii etc

Did you find the rooms large enough for your needs?

Hey, Julie! You've got your own login! I must have missed your earlier posts. :goodvibes

I can't help with this - we've only visited, never stayed (although I'd love to). I know plenty of people here love it, so just bumping this up for you. I'm sure Frances will be along soon. :)

Thanks Debbie,

John has found a lot of information on the resort anyway now and there is quite a bit on the resort section of the DIS too.

He is going to book for a few nights next April before we move onto the villa at Terre Verde.
Really happy with our choices for this holiday.

Makes up for the postponement of this year's. :)

Think John thinks it's the ideal location for his Tommy Bahama shirts!

Well, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Johnny will be pleased to know that the gift shop at the Poly stocks Tommy Bahama! :teeth:

Hi Julie - you will love the Poly, it's a really beautiful, friendly resort.

The rooms weren't a bad size, we overlooked the lovely gardens from Tukelau longhouse. We were next to the quiet pool, but the volcano pool is something else - one of our DDs fave pools.

It's a lovely resort to explore during the day and evening - I'm sure Joshua will thoroughly enjoy himself there. We loved that we could get the monorail to Grand Floridian for breakfast, then on to MK then another day off to Epcot.

We stayed three nights, too, it was just the right amount of time (that goes for any onsite hotels, be they Disney or Universal).

You must try dinner at O'Hana if you've not already done so - it's great fun for adults and children alike.

Sit next to the pool on the beach sipping a cocktail looking over to Tomorrowland at MK; then watch the Electric Pageant sale past.

Have a great stay there:yay: :thumbsup2

It's our favorite hotel. The atmosphere is very relaxing and the location is absolutely unbeatable - a short monorail or boat trip to Magic Kingdom and an easy walk to the TTC for the express monorail to EPCOT (at the GF/Contemporary you need to take the MK monorail to the TTC and then switch to the EPCOT monorail). The beaches are beautiful and there are wonderful views over Seven Seas Lagoon and the Cinderella Castle. It's perfect for watching WISHES in the evening.

The standard rooms in Tahiti and a few of the other newer longhouses are the largest on Disney property. They have also been newly renovated and now boast plasma televisions and a more modern decor. We like to reserve a ground ('first') floor rrom so that we have easy access to the beach, but others like third floor for the balcony. Some of the second floor rooms have no balconies, so these are best avoided.

In terms of location, our preference for non-concierge lagoon view rooms is Tahiti since it has the larger rooms, a really private beach which is rarely used, and it's the closest to the TTC. It's about 5 mins from the GCH, but it's a pleasant walk along the beach if you choose.

You'll need to reserve a concierge room if you want to stay in Hawaii. This is, in my opinion, the best longhouse. It is right next to the pool and just a minute from the GCH and monorail station, and the boat dock for the trip to MK. It also has a wide beach right in front. Concierge at the Polynesian is a very special experience and we find it is well worth the extra money, the views from the concierge lounge over the lagoon and Magic Kingdom are incredible, and they eve pipe in the wishes music at night, whilst serving a delicious mini dessert buffet. You'll get a continental breakfast buffet, afternoon snacks and free drinks if you stay concierge, and the concierge CMs will offer pre-trip assistance for reservations. They are so friendly at the Hawaii longhouse and really go way above and beyond to make your stay special. It's a very magical place to stay.

If you have any other questions I would be pleased to try and help. :goodvibes

PS - if you haven't already, check out Tikiman's amazing Polynesian website a

http://****************************

It's down at the moment because it gets too much traffic. It will be back up first week of July. It's well worth a read as he reviews each longhouse in detail (with + and -) and it's full of awesome pictures and info.

EDIT
It seems that the DIS don't like his site (maybe because it links to a rival travel agent for Dreams Unlimited). If you type 'Tikiman Polynesian' into google his site should be one of the first ones to come up.

Thanks for the responses, we have found loads of information/photos so it's definitely a Polynesian/villa stay for us.

John will book very soon. :)

Another :thumbsup2 for Tikiman's site - it's full of such detailed information :)
We loved the Poly - rooms were spacious & we loved our balcony overlooking the quiet pool. BIt spoilt as we splurged on concierge.
There are pictures & details in my trip reports :)

Thanks everyone who posted.

Just booked it, requesting Samoa 1st choice, Rarotonga 2nd - 3rd floor balcony view.
Close to both pools and the central hub of the resort.

Nice surprise for Julie when she gets home!

:cool1: Great news - you'll all have a wonderful stay there:)

hi
we loved it it was lovely.
i did a little visual booklet for jamie b4 we stayed there with pics of resort etc, i could pass it on if youd like might help the little man .
we had 2 rooms but could have easily had one they are very generous sizes.

i found although the volcano pool was great we used the quiet pool more as jamie preffered it the big pool can be very busy abd there tends to be ball games going on in it as it has a ball net up.

Hi Julie

We stayed there last year with DS (11) and DD (10) both who have autism. we all loved the resort but DS found the main pool too crowded so I spent a lot of time in the quiet pool with him which he loved. It does have a really deep end (about 8ft) but as long as Josh can swim he should be fine there.

Hope you enjoy your stay

Wish I could have helped you, we are going for the first time July 09, I've been looking at the posts on the resorts thread. Been trying the Tikimans site but can't get on it! Lucky Julie having it booked as a surprise - wish my DH would book something like that as a surprise, its always me that has to do it (not complaining thought at least he lets me!!!)

Your trip for this year is fast approaching isn't it?

We have cancelled this year's Wendy, long story.

Ideally summer is the logical time with Julie being a teacher but her and Joshua really struggle in the heat and frankly last time we went it just wasn't very enjoyable.
We recently found out that next Easter Julie/Josh's schools are off at the same time, something that caused us a problem this year.

End result is holiday is moved to next April, to be honest we have no regrets as we are still going Premium Economy, have booked the Polynesian and a lovely villa - best of all we know Joshua will be comfortable which is very important.
There is kind of a feeling we needed a rest from Florida, the older we all get it just seems to get more complicated for us, in a way we hope the accomodation we have booked next year will brighten up our holidays once more, especially as we have 'plans' to get Josh in restuarants more.
I suppose I have the need to switch off from Florida and do other things , kind of why I haven't posted much lately.

Oh no, sorry to hear that. The heat is something I'm a bit unsure about but both my boys are at senior school now, the eldest has GCSE's next year so its July or not at all. I know Julie is a teacher and that holidays prove a problem for you in one way and another so here's wishing you a fantastic time next year, you really will be ready for it. Are you trying anywhere different this year?

No need to be "sorry" but we have no plans at all for this year, we are all off for 2 weeks in August so have some shopping trips and 'days out' in mind.
Joshua is a real 'home boy' in many ways so he will be perfectly happy.
To be honest having been 14 times, I am reluctant to keep spending £1000s each year on holiday's - not going for another few months is a nice boost for our saving's accounts. ;)
We are very lucky to have been so often we can wait until April.

We would have gone perhaps Easter this year but Julie and Joshua were off totally different weeks - still at a loss to explain why, it's quite annoying really - so that time of year or summer are the only times we can go.

Joshua in August 2006 just wasn't himself, not wanting to go on many of the attractions, Julie nearly passed out in the heat...so we really consider it a good thing that the school holidays are back in sync next year and we go at a time that suits us better.

There are no negatives really Wendy, some years we visited twice - whilst we are lucky to be able to afford it I simply would rather save the money to be honest.
It's very difficult when there are so many things we cannot do, as I have said many times he doesn't like being out in the evening or dining out, so whilst we crave for variation we have struggled doing different things and keeping the holiday fresh.
I would love to go back to Naples and Fort Lauderdale for example - but I just can't see Josh enjoying it.
Even taking a 10 minute break from the heat at a park and going in a restaurant can cause him to get upset.
He gets up at 5am each morning which up until next year had put us off staying in hotels!
Obviously these things make you think twice about going.

Though the Polynesian could put our enthusiasm back on track, if Joshua settles and enjoys himself there it will be something different for us and perhaps change the way we do our holiday's.
He loves it at a villa, especially the private pool so the bulk of our holiday will always be spent there.
It's getting that balance of the 99% of thinking of him and the 1% where we crave for changing the holidays.

With a beach, great pools, large rooms, good location and hopefully a character breakfast the Poly could be a great place for us.

We need to push him more, we don't eat out much at home so it's hardly surprising he doesn't want to in Florida. Come next April we will be ready though!

Hi Johnny and Julie, can i just say that i am sorry you cannot go this year, but from everything i have read about you and your lovely boy joshua, you are both absolutely fantastic parents, your life cannot be easy at all, but i think you are always putting Joshua first and i admire that.

ps i used to think it was so funny when julie would reply under your login Johnny saying "this is Julie not Johnny!":rotfl:

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 to both of you and i hope you get the wonderful holiday you deserve.

That's why I registered an account for her, she kept putting dancing smilies when using my account - most embarrasing!
