My family (2 adults, 3 children - ages 8,11 and 13) is looking to go to Disney World for a February vacation. Haven't been to Disney in 4 years -last time stayed at the Yacht Club and loved it. We have narrowed our resort choices down to two and are having a hard time deciding between the Polynesian and Animal Kingdom Lodge. We have heard a lot of good things about both. However, we have some concerns of the Polynesian being a bit dated considering its age, as well as being caught in the middle of its refurbishing. With the Animal Kingdom Lodge, not sure about the bus service to all the parks - the monorail at the Polynesian certainly is appealing. Bottom line, we are looking to pick a place with a great atmosphere (allowing us to put aside the problems of the world for a while), that is fun for the kids, somewhat convenient to the parks, as well as having nice room accommodations. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Loved it! Of course, I've always wanted to go to Africa... plus my kids were young and got a huge kick (as did I) from seeing the animals right outside the room. It really was awesome. The buses from AKL go direct from there to the parks so we never had to wait long.

That said, we're looking at the poly for our 2006 vacation.

If convenience to the parks is what you want then my suggestion is the Polynesian. I really liked the resort in general and loved the monorail to the MK. We spend most of our time there so it just makes sense for us with two little ones. I did find in general that it is far from the other parks, although easier to get to epcot via monorail, but AKL is also far from other parks. With Animal Kingdom Lodge you will be close to AK, but far from the other resorts and I found that it took a while to get to the other parks. I also hated lugging the strollers on the bus for each park!!! I think you will probably like either resort for different reasons, so think about which parks you would rather have access to more easily. Have a great tip and fun time planning. ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo princess: 5 princess: 1

We also loved AKL! It was so beautiful and the kids will love it!! We had a car, so I can't comment on the bus service. I never stayed at the Poly but the monorial service can't be beat. Tough choice, but I would say the AKL just for the beauty of it..

Good luck! :bounce:

I have only visited the AKL and it is BEAUTIFUL! I can understand the lure of staying there, but the bus service in and out is less than perfect and would put a major damper on my stay. If I wasn't visiting any parks or other WDW attractions, I would give it a shot. Having stayed at the Poly this past April and July, I can say that its tropical relaxed atmosphere and proximity to MK via monorail and boat and EPCOT via monorail make it an unbeatable choice. They were refurbing rooms during our last visit and it went virtually unnoticed! If I were making the choice, I would say POLY! In any case, have a great trip!

I would go for the Polynesian.
I like being on the momorail line.
More transportaion options.
I also like the theme.
Just my taste.
