Polynesian GV Room Request

I know that requests are just a request but I would like to have one noted on our reservation and would like some input. Since I keep changing my mind on buildings, I hope someone who knows the Poly can help me out.

Here are some of our considerations:
1 - My son is obsessed, totally obsessed, with the monorail. I am concerned if we request a room with a monorail view that we will simply see the parking lot and it will not be that "Poly" garden feel that we want. I don't even know what buildings you get a view of the monorail with a GV room.

2 - Being close to the pool would be really nice. We are going in mid-August and I have a feeling we will be in the pool a lot. Is it noisy being in a room close to the pool? Are there GV rooms that are close to the main pool?

3 - We do not mind walking a bit so a building away from things is not a big deal either if there is a building with GV rooms that are worth the walk. Are there some buildings that are remodeled that are better than others? Are there some GV buildings that are better to be sure you will not just be looking at the parking lot?

I would love to hear from anyone who really recommends a GV building or can comment on some of the things we would like. I am almost positive we will be requesting a 3rd floor room for the deck!

Thanks in advance for the advice!
Jen

We've stayed in three different buildings..

Tokelau - our favorite. We were at the end of the building by the lake and we actually got a semi obstructed castle view for GV price. It was centrally located between the GCH and the TTC

Samoa - right by the pool. Wasn't noisy and it was also close to the GCH

Aerotora (sp?) - our least favorite. We weren't on the side facing the monorail but the one facing the path to the Luau. Lots of foot traffic and not very private as we would sit on our patio and see all of the people passing by to go to the luau.

We have requested Tokelau or Samoa this time...hopefully!

We did not get our request, Tokelau. We really needed a big room - or at least a balcony - 3 adults, a teen and a toddler with a carseat and stroller (and our luggage for 9 days).

We were assigned Rorotunga 2nd floor no balcony and we were cramped. BUT, the location was wonderful, just outside the GCH and the volcono pool on one end of the building and the other side was the bus stop and the laundry. It was a very quick walk to the TTC too. We were on the pool side and had a very nice view of the quiet pool and otherwise folliage and other longhouses. Aside from people in the hall outside our room, it was very quiet. I don't know how it would have been from the monorail side but I have heard others say they love it - the monorail is really very quiet and there is folliage between the building and the parking lot to soften the view. Actually there is folliage, then the monorail, then the road the busses use, then more folliage, then the parking lot, so you don't overlook the parking lot if you know what I mean.

Anyway, after you decide, do be a little specific with your request. I just requested Tokelau and should have specified that any of the newer longhouses (bigger rooms with balconies on all floors in Tokelau, Rapa Nui, Tahiti) would have been fine since we really needed the space and the room assigner must have picked our room based on location and or view.

Good luck, you'll love the Poly!

Thanks for the information so far! We are so excited to be going to the Polynesian with the kids and know that no matter what building we are in it will be great!

Couple more questions:

Is there a building that has balconies on all floors where we could see the monorail?

How about a GV building where you have a chance of seeing the castle?

Thanks!
Jen

we were just there june 12-19th and stayed in Aerotora, room 1201...we had a monorail view, and it was very very quiet. it was nice having the foliage and be able to see the monorail whiz by.
We did not get our requested longhouse, Tokelou either...

If you haven't done so, Google Tikiman--you'll find a great site with more detail than you can possibly imagine about the views from various Poly buildings.

In 2003, we stayed in room 3606 in Samoa. It was an awesome room. It was a garden view but we could see a portion of the lagoon. (Not the castle however) It faced the main volcano pool. And I *think* we could see the monorail off in the distance. But I am relying on my middle-aged memory :rotfl: on that point, as I can't find any pictures from the balcony. At the time, there was not much foliage blocking the view, but obviously that could have changed. I mention that because last year we were in Samoa 3rd floor on the quiet pool side and there was a huge tree seriously obstructing the view. (Don't remember the room number as it wasn't one I would want to try again!!) But back to 3606...we could hear some sounds from the volcano pool, but not enough that it bothered us. Especially when we had the drapes pulled - they seemed to muffle the sound. And there's not a whole lot of privacy on the balcony, as it faces a main walkway. But overall, we loved the room, and I would stay there again in a heartbeat, given the chance.
