This may seem odd, but here goes. I am looking at tikiman's gorgeous pics of the Hawaii bldg GV area. It shows fabulous landscaping with grassy areas in between. My question is, are these areas appropriate for kids to play in? I'm not going to allow the trashing of flower beds.....just running in the grass.

I told you it was odd...I can't help it. I'm the mom whose kids have to use the sidewalks and driveways when we go trick or treating! :D

I'm assuming since there are patios leading to the areas it is fine, but I'd like to know from those who have been there.

Thanks so much!!

I guess it depends on what room you get. Our room was 1521 and we couldn't access the grassy area from our patio, since we were landscaped in, if that makes any sense. I'm also warry of letting my kids play in the grassy areas at WDW since fireants are a problem in FL and I'm TERRIFIED of them. Now, I've never heard of anyone getting stung by a fireant at WDW, but you can never be too careful!!!

It depends on when you go. We just got back and it rains alot. Not enough to ruin your trip. But it is very muddy in the grass. Not like mud holes or anything. Just that if you walk in the grass you can feel the squishy grass and water under your feet. So they may not want to play there. They had fireworks at the Poly one night. We walked out our patio to the beach to get alittle closer the girls were barefoot. I had to carry them back after the fireworks. They didn't like the wet grass.

We're going Dec 12-19. We are in the process of deciding whether or not to switch to the Polynesian, so it may be a moot point. BTW, are the aforementioned fire ants around in the FL winter?

The grass does get very oozy feeling during a wet spell but Dec. is usually pretty dry. My husband and sons always walk through the grass to get to our patio and have never had a problem with fireants. We've always been on the first floor, too. The grass is not the roll around in kind IMHO though. It's a courser grass than we have in the midwest. I imagine it's hardier to withstand the temps and sun.

The Polynesian is great!!!
