Hi guys!!

I've just booked my vacation for 2013, 16 days at the Polynesian Resort.
I am very excited as we have never stayed in the Poly before, we have stayed at Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian, Animal Kingdom and some others. I have loved every resort we have been too. I'm 19 from the UK and a massive disney lover!

I've heard loads of good things about Poly but as soon as I started reading through some threads on here I found a lot of people that don't like the Poly and think it's really bad!

Please can you guys give me some honest opinions!!

You will get different honest opinions.. Not everyone likes the same resorts, because everyone are different. I personally love the Poly! I like that island feeling. Someone may not find the Poly interesting, but you may find it appealing. Go with the resort you want to stay at. Someone else's bad experience may be your "magical" experience. :) Enjoy your trip!

We LOVE the Poly. We're going to try the Grand Floridian next year just because we've stayed at the Poly twice before and feel like trying something new. I will miss the Poly though!

I love the Poly! In fact next year we are staying at either the Poly or Art of Animation. I love everything about the poly-but watching fireworks from the pool is one of my favorites! The art of animation is in the running due to the seperate master bedroom! Have a great stay!

It's my fave resort :) Don't get to stay there often since we like to get 2 rooms for our family and it's pricey but when DH and I like to get away alone it's my resort of choice!

So far the Poly is our favorite. I have reservations at CBR, but asked everyone which resort they wanted and the options were CBR or AKL and they said the Poly :rotfl: I said that was not a choice, we really enjoyed our stay there though but I wanted to try another resort.

We have stayed at several resorts, but the Poly is our favorite :). We have had great stays at every resort we've tried, but we love the Poly for many reasons including the tropical atmosphere, the beach for watching the fireworks, the volcano pool (which is our favorite pool), the monorail for convenient access to MK as well as to the GF and CR, and Captain Cooks for quick snacks or meals :goodvibes. Have a great trip and enjoy the Poly :wizard:.

Where the Poly really shines is the theming in the common areas. There's a very authentic feeling island vibe, the grounds are lush, and it's got a great view of MK at night. It's also tough to beat the location, since you're on the monorail and right by the TTC, so you can get to EPCOT without taking the loop all the way around. Oh, and there's DoleWhip on the premises.

With that said, the room that I stayed in when I was there last year was very pedestrian, and if you strip the theming away, it was really no different from a garden variety hotel room and not particularly "luxurious." Also, the rooms and some of the buildings could really use an update. That doesn't really detract from the experience, IMO, but I did notice it, so I thought it was worth mentioning. I'd stay there again.

Thank you everyone who answered! Made me feel a lot better! After hearing a few bad opinions I started to panic but your opinions made me feel much happier! :)

Glad you're feeling better about it. You stated that you loved all the other resorts you have already stayed at. If you look around, you will find bad reviews of all of those resorts too but you loved it. ;)

We've stayed at the Polynesian since 1982 (and most other resorts as well) and it will forever be my favorite resort due to the South Seas theme. :)

It is time for a refurb so many of the rooms are showing the usual (and unavoidable) wear and tear. From what I've read there's quite a lot in the works soon...big changes too.

Have you checked out Tikiman's site? Best info to be found and he will be honest about the Polynesian pros and cons.:thumbsup2

I just got back from there. I LOVE IT! There is so much to love about it for me. I am one who feel head over heels in love a while ago with it. Hubby and I always have a great time there. They have amazing grounds. It is really pretty at night and during the day. I feel it totally is worth it. Lots of perks.

I recently just had space mountain as my resort view.

For atmosphere Poly is wonderful(if you like tropical theming). If you are weighing other aspects such as transportation, amenities, etc. you might find some other resorts meet your needs better. All in all, Poly is one of the top resorts on property, you likely be very happy there.:earsboy:

Wow - 16 days! That's two visits for me. You'll love it, though I'm not sure I could stay anywhere for that long. Have you stayed that long at a resort previously?

LOVE the Poly. It is the my favorite old-school, fantastically themed resort. You can catch the monorail, the resort launch or walk to the TTC. Good pools, good food, great views.

Im a fan, I have been a fan of every resort that I have stayed at. Poly ranks near the top of my favorites that I have stayed at if not number 1.

I think most of the bad reviews are regarding the rooms. I think people expect more for their money. Disney hotel rooms are just rooms nothing special. In my opinion the Poly rooms are much nicer than any of the other deluxes you have stayed at especially Wl. You will see from my ticker we have stayed a lot of deluxes, and our rooms at the Poly have been the best. The price is the only downside to staying there.

Ah yeah i am from the UK so we have to go for quite a while to make it worth going all that way, that's how my family feel personally. Yep we normally go for that long to the other resorts! We normally stay in the WL for 16 days and I love it!!

1st of all, welcome to the Disboards. 99.9998% of the time you are gonna get alot of helpful info on here.

2nd...remember this....A negative experience tends to get posted more often than a positive experience. Its only natural. Dont let anyones negative reaction to something sway you one way or another...

Different strokes...for different folks.

That being said, we were swayed by a posters negative reaction to something way back in 2003...(that poster is still on these boards) and every time I see her posting I just skip on past it.

The Poly is our favorite followed by POR and then YC. I surprised DW for Mothers Day and switched from YC to the Poly for our August trip and then she surprised me for Fathers day and got us 2 extra nights. (13 nights total)

The 2 main reasons why we are staying here this year;
1) its our favorite
2) if all the rumors are true, the poly will be going under a major renovation/rebuilding starting end of 2012 into 2013 and beyond.

If #2 is true, then we wont stay there during construction. If #2 is not true, then the door is open for us next year.

read on tikiman2001.com. this website is great and it wont guide in the wrong direction.

Hope this helps.
