What are they doing at the polynesian? I heard some sort of water thing? Anyone know and when will the construction be done?

kenman, we stayed at the Polynesian for nine nights at the end of March into April. At that time they were renovating Samoa, laying a sidewalk from the sidewalk that runs the length of Raratonga down to the road (in anticipation of the busstop I believe), and working on pipes in the ground on the pool side of Rararonga by the large generator or air conditioner or whatever it is (near the GCH but on the pool side).
I asked a workman what they were doing there and he told me they were beginning work to replace all the water pipes that carry the chilled water to the longhouses for the air conditioning. He said they redid it about five years ago but that there were problems and were doing it over again. He said it would eventually be affecting each longhouse.

They should be finished with the renovation at Samoa by now as I believe they are about to start on Hawaii.

A fairly large part of the eastern portion of the main parking lot was fenced in and filled with construction trailers.

Despite all of this other than choosing one path rather than another a couple of days we were unaffected. It was as peaceful and beautiful as ever!

We are leaving from Cleveland a week from Momday. We where going to stay at the Hawaii building but now we are at a differend building.

We were there 3 weeks ago and there was major construction going on right next to the GCH and running along side Raratonga. They are putting in a covered bus stop. It got fairly noisy on the monorail side of Raratonga so you might want to avoid that. Because of the construction there are some walkways closed off and you will have to walk around but that is only if you are coming from the parking lot and want to take a short cut avoiding the GCH. Other then that we noticed no other construction going on and we were there for 12 days.

skiwee 1, how far along was the construction on the bus stop?

It looked like they had a loooong way to go! They were still only clearing trees and dirt with backhoes. They were bulldozing too. I didn't see any type of actual building. Just a huge mess, lots of noise, and dust everywhere, especially from my Raratonga balcony! LOL!

Oh no...

This is our first (and only) time at a deluxe, we go in two weeks. This won't take away from the 'Magic' will it?

I wouldn't worry about it Gamer. You will LOVE the Polynesian!

We go again in only 25 days!:Pinkbounc Only for three nights this trip though before moving over to BCV.

Oh my no!! I love the Polynesian and even the dust blowing by my balcony didn't bother me! Except for the gray construction wall you come upon as you approach the Poly you probably won't even realize anything unless you are in the Rartonga facing the monorail.

From what I understand (Chip and Dale Express) the new bus stop may be up and running in July. They say it will be a vast imrovement over the old one.

Have a great trip! We don't go back until October but are staying at the Poly again. :D

Thanks skiwee1, you too. We've made Oct trips the last two years and a few other times and it is a great time to go isn't it? Our next trip after this one isn't until Nov. We'll be at BCV for 5 nights again but probably at the Polynesian for 2-4 nights also. It's a VERY hard tradition to change!

We were just at the Poly. last week and Somoa is finished, the constr. is still going on out front but does not present a problem. It will not ruin your stay at all.

Have fun.
