Polynesian concierge rooms - size ?

BCV23,

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. Now we can't wait for our trip.:D

Sharper,

That is true. The original concierge lounge was in the GCH where the gallery is now. They added the lounge to the Hawaii longhouse in the 90's. Before than it was in the GCH. I spent all night once in the concierge lounge going over the history of the lounge with the people that were there at the time and they showed me pictures. I emailed them to see if they can give me some answers to weather or not the concierge rooms were ever in Tahiti even for a temporary stay. I will let you know when I get their answer.

Till then maybe someone else here can answer who stayed back then.

Luckytso,

The pictures of our room in the Hawaii longhouse will look the same as any of the rooms (some may be a mirror image) All the rooms have two queens and a day bed.

BCV23,

Thanks for the info. I did not realize the Tonga (now Hawaii) was not concierge back in the 80's.

Aloha

Steve

Off the main topic here but as a side note, Threehearts- I am so bummed that people actually fabricate special occasions just for extra special treatment. It will truly be my DS's 6th birthday on Jan 18 and I splurged on the GV Concierge for a treat. Not that I want lots of freebies or anything but I don't want the CM's to think I'm fibbing! Maybe I should fax his birth certificate down with my requests! LOL!;)

Temporary, long-term or mistake my family stayed King Kamehameha (I still like the sound of that) level eleven years ago, housed in the longhouse which is now Tahiti (which is on a big larger scale than some other longhouses.) It was only recently that I realized that concierge does not equal larger room, but wanted clarification. One just assumes things that may not be the case. I now understand that the current concierge service is in Hawaii, which rooms are the same general size as a standard room. Thanks!

Adam66 -- DO NOT feel uncomfortable about mentioning the birthday!!! If it makes you feel better, no one in our group is claiming any special event, and while there are those who do I honestly believe that the CM's know the difference AND in my experience the CM's truly enjoy making those special events more special. Also, they realize that often times people stay there as a special treat because of the special event so they actually do occur more often than in the general population. Go, tell everyone about your daughter's birthday and let her enjoy a wonderful time in a wonderful place. Turning six at Disney World! Does it get any better?

Aloha Sharper,

Well I must say I am sorry if I thought you were wrong and I want to say thank you because I learned something new about the Polynesian because of your topic. The concierge rooms originally were all the lagoon view rooms in Tahiti, Hawaii and Tuvalu. In 1994 they finished with the concierge lounge construction on the end of Hawaii and the Hawaii longhouse became the concierge building.

Now we know.

Thanks sharper. I wish I was turning "twenty" six at Disney.

Oh well, it should be fun to say the least.;)

Yesterday I called Disney and spoke to one of the nicest cast members ever. She searched high and low and managed to change my reservation to garden view concierge while maintaining my discount. Now I am thinking about which room -- view is no longer as important as being near main building and lounge. Which room numbers are at that end of Hawaii? Also, we are transferring to the Poly from AKL. Our plan is to be packed and have our luggage available for bell services early that morning. Any idea when we might expect our "stuff" to be at Poly? Will they hold it until we arrive to check in or go ahead and put it in our room (if assigned one is available) Will we miss getting our leis by transferring, or are those distributed when we check in? (I really, really want be sure that we don't miss any of the extras at the Poly because I love it and want DH and kids to, also.) Last question of the moment -- do they have laundry service? Not that I am quite able to do laundry, but I expect we will need to do ONE load, but I hate to spend the time waiting for that to wash and then dry. Is there a reasonable alternative? Thanks!

Aloha Sharper,

The rooms at the lounge end of Hawaii on the garden side are X534-X519. I would suggest trying for anything from X532-X519 because X534 and X533 look at the corner of the Samoa longhouse and it can get noisy since the housekeeping storage is next to X534. If you have your bags transferred they may not show up till later in the afternoon. We switched from the AKL to the Polynesian and took our own stuff. It was very easy. I would think they would put your stuff in your room if it were ready. If not they will hold it for you. You can get your leis when you check in at the concierge desk or you can get them any time at the Island Guide desk when you walk in to the GCH.

The Polynesian does have a laundry service in the room. There is a bag in the closet that you can put your things in and fill out the tag. Your stuff will be cleaned and returned the next day (for a fee). You can also do it your self at the laundry next to the Neverland Club.

Aloha

Steve

Did you have your auto or did you carry your luggage on a bus? We travel fairly light, and it would not be a huge deal to carry our own luggage but I don't particularly want to look like the Beverly Hillbillies lugging in our suitcases, checking in at concierge. If others have done it and it is no big deal then I actually would probably prefer to just handle it ourselves. Since it would be 9:00 a.m. or so I expect we would not be able to go to our rooms, but at least having effected the transfer would be nice.

Yes we did have a rent a car so it was easier. I would go with having them transfer your stuff. Make sure you still stop by the front check in/valet area and tell them you are checking in Concierge so you can get the little tour in the golf cart.

adam66- I have a six year old and we celebrated her Bday at the Poly last year and she received a little cake and some helium balloons in the concierge room. I think the CM's become suspicious when the family of four had seven birthdays and the parents celebrated their tenth anniversary twice which was just one week after their engagement trip... LOL. Please make the staff aware of your child's special day and REMEMBER- a pleasant reminder to the CMs on the day of the event never hurts. Susan

Threehearts- thanks again. Now as long as my soon to be 7yo DS (who turns 7 next week) doesn't try to scam the CM's into thinking its his bday too I'll be alright. You know how one kid hates to feel "slighted". Although I was planning on having some sort of gift baskets in the room for each son upon arrival. That should help his feelings a bit.:D

Can I arrange for a cake and balloons apart from dealing with concierge? I had told myself that at some point I would do this: Since our school has a break during the week of my husband's birthday, we have been in WDW on his birthday. Due to the date of my two children's birthdays I cannot imagine that we will ever be able to be there for their birthdays, at least as long as they are in school! I would love to have a cake and balloons and have an Unbirthday Party. (You know, we celebrated their unbirthdays at Disney, like DH's birthday.) I don't want to go through concierge for fear they will think I am trying to swing some freebie. Who can I contact to arrange this? Or am I being paranoid about concierge and should just deal with them, making it absolutely clear that I DO expect to pay?

I can't get the search engine to work, but try Walt Disney Florist or it's either Gifts of a Lifetime or Pixie Gifts - something like that. I know there have been previous posts about gift baskets and such.

Hope this helps.

Sharper,

If you explain your intent initially I imagine they will be happy to help in any way possible. I am naive enough to believe that the majority of guests they deal with would never use subterfuge for "freebies" thus those who do probably stand out like the proverbial "sore thumb". They are the concierge staff after all and are available for just that sort of thing.

Enjoy!!

Email the concierge with your request for a cake and balloons. They do this all the time. They will get the things from WDW florist and charge it to your card. They will make sure it is there for you. This is not an unusual request for the conicerge Island Planning Office. I have gotten things from WDW florist through concierge almost every stay.

Aloha

Steve
