Poly Tower Speculation

Maybe they will put a rival pool at the building. One that is up the standards of the original?

The pool is not slated to be a feature pool with a slide…so unless they change it, it will be more like a quiet pool. I think the design looks like it was an infinity design.

There will also be a splash pad area.

Oh lawd. There is no excuse for that! No slide!! That will absolutely ruin the volcano pool. I didn't realize this.

Maybe they will change it but as of now, there does not seem to be one and I know those that love the Poly are concerned about how this will impact the feature pool.

It will ruin it. I could see one having to wait a turn just to enter that pool area because of the slide. Surely Disney knows this.

I would really be mad if I owned Poly1 right now.

Forget PVB owners (at least they're near the TTC), what about those that are paying $900+ per night to stay on the hotel side?

Is the Poly lobby big enough to handle all those people who are going to come use the monorail each day and night? That stop is gonna be bonkers

The monorail line already extends out past the loading platform upstairs during busier parts of the day. I've seen it all the way back to the restrooms in the morning.

If you're at Grand Floridian, forget it. You're not getting on.

I wouldn't ever pay that. But some will. Disney has possibly really screwed the current owners unless they provide a rival pool at Poly 2. I just keep thinking though that even Disney is above this. But ya, the regular guest could get it bad as well if Disney doesn't step up.

They must have had a reason why they couldn’t put in another feature pool.

Maybe something to do with the land there? Remember, the current pools are part of the hotel side and not part of DVC. Ownerd just have use of them.

We don’t yet know how this new pool will be classified and whether it will be a commen element of the tower or another pool just part of the resort.

FWIW, just had dinner at Artist Point. Was chatting with the guide at the DVC kiosk. He alluded to new Poly being a new association by talking about it being a 50 year resort. He also said the FW cabins were in need of repair and the transition to DVC fell into DVC’s lap and they are glad to take them over. Again, take it with a grain of salt but thought I’d share.

I could care less about pool slides. The artist rendering shows a two- level waterfall infinity edge pool that looks awesome. As to transportation I avoid the monorail like the plague. It is hot, stinks is break down prone. Walking or boats are much more desirable.

Many people that hate DVC have no idea that DVC is carrying every resort where it is located.

This has the potential to be an awesome DVC addition. Hope Disney doesn't do any shortcuts because they will need to properly address the additional strain on the transportation and amenities.

The real question is why would they want a 50 year contract - it would be better to end it at the same time as poly 1

It may sound simpler to have them both end at the same time, but that would not be the case.

When the DVC resort closes down, it will have to be fully refurbished at the least, and possibly re-themed or even rebuilt in parts. They may even have some add-ons to build new before they can start selling it as a new DVC resort. It will be a major construction project and very expensive.

If Poly1 and Poly2 have to go through this at the same time, there would be TWO major construction projects, on BOTH SIDES of the Polynesian Village Resort. Can you imagine the problems and complaints from that?

Having both construction projects going on at the same time would at least double the costs, if not more, and cause the loss of revenue from both sides at the same time. It also may require the closure of both the quiet pool near Poly1 and the new pool at Poly2. What a mess that would be.

If, however, they are separated by even a small number of years, Poly1 could be closed down and go through all of this while Poly2 is still up and running, providing revenue as well as it's pool, dining, and other services for the Polynesian guests. Then, when its Poly2's turn, the new Poly1 will be up and running and fully available to the Polynesian guests.

While we all know that DVC can be a bit short-sited on some of their decisions, I don't see them purposefully deciding that having major construction projects on both sides of the Poly at the same time is in their best interests.
