:goodvibes Good Morning!!:) We are planning a Grand Gathering for May 2009. We have settled on the Poly. Which is very exciting to me because we've never stayed there. :cool1: However, I do have one question. Is it really a 'short walk' to the TTC to catch the monorail to Epcot? There will be 13 of us; 5 children. The children range in age from 5-14. We are going to request a longhouse close to the Volcano pool. Can anyone give me a distance for the TTC walk? I may be a little obsessive with planning however walking is not my DH's favorite activity. Thanks for any and all advice.:flower3:

It is a 5-7 minute walk from The GCH, which is the main lobby and restaurants. The pool is located right outside the GCH so if you get a longhouse close to the pool you will be close to GCH... The Poly is a great location so sit back and relax and enjoy the rest of your planning! :thumbsup2

It depends on your definition of a "short" walk and which longhouse you are in and whether it's the beginning of a long day or the end of a long day. ;) The GCH is sorta centered in the resort and looking towards it, there are longhouses to the right and longhouses to the left. We were in Fiji, which was nicely located close to the GCH and pool, but was to the left of the GCH - which made it a longer walk to the TTC.

I'll be honest - with kids and a long, hot day, that walk felt long when coming back at the end of the day and it's not entirely obvious how to navigate your way through the walkways. I'll admit to wandering around slightly lost. And I was in training for a half-marathon at the time and used to running up to 10 miles at a time - it's not like I'm not used to being on my feet.

I find it preferable to any other option for going to/from Epcot, however. If I were to go back to Poly, I would request a building between the GCH and the TTC, however, to make the walk that much closer and easier. Of course, if you're closest to the TTC, than you're farthest from the GCH and that's kind of a pain, too. :lmao:

On our stay at the Poly we were in the Tahiti longhouse, which was about the same walk to the GCH and the TTC, it might even be a little closer to the TTC. We thought that this was the most convenient place in all of the world. Walk to the TTC and get the Monorail to epcot or catch the ferry to MK or walk to the GCH and get monorail to MK. Either way the Poly is awesome.

I don't think it's a bad walk. 10 minutes tops, maybe 15 if you are a slow walker.

We do it all the time. And it is peaceful & it is rare to see someone so a nice way to wind down too.

Well, if you are close to the GCH, and you don't want to walk, you can just take the monorail around to the TTC.

Ditto on coming back from Epcot. Just switch to the resort monorail and get off at the Poly.

There is really no NEED to walk to the TTC; it's just an added convenience to save 5-10 min on the trip to Epcot. However, if I were in a room close to the GCH, like in Samoa (where you should request to be near the volcano pool, by the way), I'd probably not walk to the TTC that often...especially with such a large group.

Unless you have mobility issues, there really is no reason not to walk. We all like to take the monorail, but to stop at the GF, MK, CR and then the TTC, I just fell like Im going in a big circle.

FYI, if you are on the other side of the resort, you can even walk to the GF. Actually the Fitness center for the GF is closer to the Poly than alot of the rooms at the GF.

All in all, depends on your preference

DH, DKs (13 & 11) and I all thought the walk from Rarotonga to the TTC was really quick and easy (maybe 5 minutes). My parents-in-law came along last trip and both have mobility issues (MiL has 2 prosthetic knees), and they found the walk very arduous. Tokelau is the building that I believe would put you right in between the GCH and the main pool on one side and the TTC on the other side. I think you'd have a 3-4 minute walk to each (I'm estimating).

I hated taking the monorail to the TTC because you have to do almost the entire loop. Coming back it makes more sense, because the Poly is the next stop. Remember, at the TTC, you have to exit one monorail and get on another, down a long ramp and then back UP another loooong ramp. It seems easier to me to just walk a little farther to your room than to climb up that looooooong ramp after a long day in the parks. That's just me.

One of the great things about staying at the Poly is that you have that choice! Hmmmm, should we take the monorail, or WALK to the TTC?

We stayed at the Poly for the first time in Oct and it was HOT! The walk to TTC at night, carrying a 3 yo was very long. (she was sick on the trip, the only reason she was not walking). However, keep in mind the walk from the TTC is very dark as well, and you need to learn and pay attention to the winding paths at the Poly.

Walked to the TTC from the Raratonga longhouse while 7 months pregnant (and it was August!) so, no, I don't consider it a long walk :)
