We are staying at the Poly for the first time in September in a lake view studio.

Any recommendations for an area, floor etc. as we really don't know this resort at all?

Thank you.

Many have reported that you need a high floor to see over the roofs of the bungalows.

I don't know, I have heard folks say they have can see the castle from first floor rooms as well.

We enjoyed high floor lake view. Our room was 3rd floor.
3rd floor can see the lake over the bungalows.
2nd floor can see most of the lake, maybe a little is blocked by the roofs of the bungalows.
Most first floor rooms see the lake by looking between the bungalows.

I believe the higher floor rooms may experience more sound from the ferries because nothing blocks the sound wave when they blow the horn in the middle of the lake. First floor rooms benefit from the bungalows and foliage blocking some of the sound waves.

I believe all the rooms can see the MK fireworks.
Additionally, I believe all PVB rooms cannot see the entire Electric Water Pageant from their balcony. I suggest going to the beach movie/fire pit area for the EWP.

Ill be there too in September. Do you think its best for me to do online check in prior to arrival and request this too or do check in when I arrive? Would one be better to than another?

Thank you.

I would make my request via Member Services now and completely skip the section of the online check in that talks about requests. The online choices were really meant for the cash side of the resort and do not usually reflect the DVC resorts very well. MS can be more flexible than the "check a box" choices via online. Remember that anything you check or add to the online request section will overwrite what you request via Member Services.

Over the 4th, we were in the second to the last room on the 2nd floor. It and the room on the end are the only rooms without a bungalow in front of it. We had a dead on view of the lake and the castle. 1st floor rooms would also have a great view here.

Now, the only drawback is the ferry boat horns. You will hear them. DH and I actually enjoyed hearing the horns, reminded us we had a water view right outside our room. The only time it was a nuisance was Sunday morning. Shortly after 6 AM I heard the horn from a ferry at the MK, then of course the horn again as it docked beside us. But not 5 minutes later they blew the horn, backed the ferry out, blew the horn again and re-docked in the other slip. 4 boat horns before 6:30 AM on a Sunday.:headache:

Thank you all. Does anyone have a resort plan with room numbers? Thank you

which building were the photos above taken from? Moorea?
The only DVC Longhouse with Lake View studios is Moorea. I personally think the Lake View balconies are well worth the extra points.

I ordered in an Ohana feast, my wife ordered in sushi and entree from Kona, and we ate and watched fireworks from our balcony... Then off to MK for an EMH Sat night!

I did online check in and my room was ready when I arrived approximately 12:00 pm.
I requested third floor. My room was 3020. It was perfect view and I think in the middle of the building.
I saw everything. I have always wanted to stay at the Poly and glad I stayed but it really is no longer on my list of
"I LOVE" DVCs. For me, for a vacation, I want a vacation and bright feeling. The hallways are very dark as well as the rooms.
I showed my dd-21 pictures and she said it was nice but needed to be refurb but I told her they were new LOL

I enjoyed the walk to the GF (stayed twice and loved it there in a two bedroom) although it would be wonderful if the Poly
had their own gym. I enjoyed walking to the TTC but felt the Morea building is so removed from the rest of the resort.
I felt badly for anyone on the first floor. What a waste of points for them. I would have not been a happy camper but knew the
risk before going.

Enjoy!

So if you were to go again would you request a LV bc the view the nice or a standard so that you're not as removed?

No the Electrical Water pageant generally can't be seen from the PVB lake view rooms. As to the question whether I would book lake view again- I thought it was worth the gamble to try to get that perfect view the last time and I got it. But for future stays I will probably weigh staying an extra night over having the view, especially since it's a gamble and not guaranteed I would have that again.
