poly stories

oh my goodness, don't let Tikiman hear you say you heard bad things about the Polynesian.

We stayed there Thanksgiving 2002 and loved it. We could walk over to the TTC or back to the GCH to get the monorail. We actually walked over to the Grand Floridian the first afternoon as we were waiting for our room to be ready.

We were in Tokelau 3942... our room was HUGE... we had 2 queen beds that were SO comfortable,. We learned the shortcut to the GCH the night before we left of course. We used the stairs as our room was down towards the end, easier than using the elevator. Our room overlooked the "quiet" pool, which at 11 pm still had some screaming kids in it... don't know where the parents were.... but all I did was close my patio door and instant quiet.. Never heard anyone in the next rooms, just heard some crying kids (nap time) as I was walking down the hall to the ice machine.. could hear them as we passed their room, other than that nothing!!

We didn't go to O'Hana's, but did notice a crowd waiting for breakfast. We didn't have to wait long for breakfast at Kona Cafe and that was without a priority seating!!

Would I go back? Definitely... I loved being right on the monorail, the CM's were great and SO helpful.

If you go to Tikiman's sight this has been a topic of conversation since the original negative post was posted. He has responded to it on the sight as have countless other people.

I have stayed at the Poly in the past and we are going in September--first time concierge. It is good to hear varying opinions on what people have experienced. The positives far out number the negatives.

I sure would complain if I had a smelly room---
If I saw outsiders eating the food I paid extra to have...I would go directly to someone and have them do something. It does no good to sit and steam about it...certainly they could check to see if they are paying guests.

I will remember the negatives I read and keep my eyes and nose open but I will also remember most the positive reviews that people have posted about the CM's/Chef Dick/the food, etc. The contact I have had via email with the staff (TARA) has been fantastic.

Last December DW and I had reservartions for CBR. When they closed that resort to renovate the food services we got a GREAT rate on an upgrade to the Polynesian.

I have one major complaint: the Poly was so wonderful I won't be able to stay anywhere else, and I won't be able to get a rate as cheap as we had. I know on future trips if we stay elsewhere DW and I will say, "Well, it's very nice, but it's not the Poly." Oh well, looks like I'll have to pay a little extra from now on.

We are DVC members and so we mostly stay at BCV, BWV and VWL (all great resorts). However, every summer we return to the Poly (LV concierge) to celebrate our anniversary. We love it there, and are counting down the days until we return (only a couple more weeks!). :bounce:

I love the poly, as you can probably tell! :)

My favorite Poly memory is checking in, running over to my room, and discovering that I've been upgraded to a lagoon view with a view of the castle! It was great!

An example of how great the service is- one night I was sitting on my balcony, enjoying the night, when one of the maintenance crew was driving by in a go-kart. The people in the balcony next to me called down to him and asked where the laundry was. He not only gave them directions, but told them that if they wanted to go now, to come on down and he'd give them a ride over!

There's just something magical about walking along a torch-lit path with the smell of tropical flowers hanging in the air, and then settling down on the beach to watch the fireworks above Cinderalla Castle above the lagoon. Nothing like it!

Well you all have me very excited. We're staying at the Poly in Dec. as part of the Salute to the Armed Forces special. My SIL is in the Army. I've never really had any desire to stay at the Poly because I live in the Tropics. I always wanted to stay someplace "different". But after reading all of these posts, I'm really looking forward to it.

We've reserved for Garden View, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for a last minute upgrade.

I do not post often, but I could not resist this topic. I, too, started to get a sick feeling when reading some of the criticisms of recent trips to this, my favorite resort. Criticisms are necessary, this I understand...but when thousands of dollars are involved, many of us start to worry. I have a trip in November, so I am going to remind myself of why I always choose the Polynesian....
1. the Hawiian music that follows you wherevver you go in the resort.
2. the amazing foyer that greets you in the main house
3. OHANA's(the evening meal is the best value at Disney as far as this gal is concerned)
4. it easily accomodates my family of 5
5. TRANSPORTATION choices like no other
6. magic that greets you upon arrival

I thank to originatoe of this thread. Having said that, I also thank all who report on all of their concerns with out precious Poly. MJ

We just returned from the Poly and I too was nervous about the reports, but we returned loving our vacation. We arrived at the same time as another family and had to wait about 10 minutes for a cart to take us over, but we were able to get checked in without waiting. We love the Tahiti building for its closeness to TTC and the new bus stop is definitely closer than it used to be. No funny odors in the room- chocolate bar delivered first night- rec'd birthday cake for my husband's birthday- needed help from concierge to fedex a package, they took care of it for me- there was always food available and the staff always happy to help. As a matter of fact I found this to be one of the better trips we had in terms of other guests- meaning sometimes some guests are just rude or nasty, but this time everyone seemed to be happy, even when my baby would start acting up a little, people would try to entertain her and make her smile. I don't know if it was becuase I was determined to have a great vacation- but I really did not encounter rude guests, everyone was really nice. No complaints from us with our 8 day stay. Go and enjoy, don't let other people ruin your vacation- they are not paying for your room, so let them be miserable if they want- your gonna love it!!
