Are you buying Poly direct when it goes on sale?

While the legal setup will not be fully confirmed until the condo association is amended to add the new tower, Chang stated that "our plans right now are for the new tower to be part of the existing Polynesian resort."
Did anyone write down how the question was asked? Can anyone quote the question? I was on the west coast and didn’t hear it clearly on the live stream.

I believe it is quoted near verbatim over on the speculate about poly thread…probably several pages back by now.

Dear Disney Vacation Club, THANK YOU for your decision to include the new Polynesian tower in the existing Polynesian DVC association. You will be hearing from me when those points go on sale... as long as there are some good incentives! :)

Sincerely,
A happy Polynesian DVC owner

My understanding is that the answer given was vague enough or at least left room for interpretation.

I know many people assumes that the tower will be part of the current association and it very well might be but until we hear something officially from DVD we honestly don’t know.

Definitely not. And I may be done with direct. I will just add more resale RiV when I am ready for more points.
Honestly, if you love Riviera, Riviera resale is the best deal you can get in the entire DVC system right now. I don't love Riviera (largely because of the location), and have seriously considered it, because the price point is so attractive.

I knew this from the beginning. It's not a new hotel like Riviera so it has to be included in the existing association.

I strongly suspected that, but I wouldn't say I "knew" it, given that CCV is a different association from BRV. It always just seemed inconceivable to me that Disney would not take this chance to balance out the most weirdly unbalanced resort (only studios and Bungalows) in DVC, to end up with an overall more attractive, saleable product, while conveniently (for them) knocking several years off the points they are selling. The main counterargument seems to have been "but what about the integrity of the resale restrictions policy?" which always seemed very thin to me as I would expect Disney to be much more concerned about their bottom line than this kind of philosophical objection, and I don't think anyone seriously disputes that PVB2 will sell faster in the same association than it would have done in a new one.

I’m an optimist. And I can handle whatever happens. I’m not spending any money (or not) until points are officially on sale. I have not been making any moves whatsoever due to the uncertainty that surrounded this, including not buying direct VGF or RIV, or any resale. I have been playing a waiting game.

But let me throw this at you. Poly will definitely sell better as part of the PVB association, we agree. But I think I given its popularity, location, newness it was always going to sell pretty well. RIV and now VDH are clearly on the struggle bus of sales. Why hurt their direct sales further? Because it’s going to right? Does anyone have RIV and VDH doing better sales after this decision? Unless they give some crazy incentives to get them moving but that also goes against their bottom line. Do you think this a move to remove the restrictions all together?

I've seen many posters here who say they love RIV and are not concerned about its restrictions. People like that will continue to buy RIV and it will eventually sell out. VGF2 has been an alternative product suitable for those who are concerned about resale restrictions; now that it has sold out, PVB2 can fill that role. I'm sure there are others like me who would never consider buying points with RIV-style restrictions, and putting PVB2 in the same association gives Disney the ability to sell direct points to these people who would otherwise be forced into O14 resale.

I bought resale and I can still stay at CCV.

Very smart. Just a tiny amount of risk that Disney will change their minds about the same association, but this seems very unlikely.
Can you please elaborate on this. Been off the boards for a while. Trying to play catchup on all the Poly 2 threads. This makes me pause my resale strategy. We need the 2 bedroom at Poly2. Resale allows us to buy more points at this EPCOT resort for longer Food & Wine Stays 10 days would be ideal. Blue Card status is a nice to have. We (kids) already are grandfathered in until 2054. I will need Futurama tech to make it that long.

Between the time that what you quote was posted and now, DVD has officially confirmed that Poly tower will be part of PVB. So there’s no longer any risk that Disney will change their minds.

Can somebody be able to explain why I can stay at CCV and I bought resale if it's a different association?

At present, restricted resale only applies to RIV and VDH. Anyone who purchases resale at a restricted resort can only stay at that resort.
All other resale purchases of other resorts cannot stay at RIV or VDH (plus future restricted resorts which apparently is defined as new resorts where DVC did not exist before).

Guessing you bought resale at one of the original 14 so you will not be able to stay at RIV, VDH, and future new restricted resorts.

I knew this from the beginning. It's not a new hotel like Riviera so it has to be included in the existing association.

There was no requirement for them to add it to PVB. They can build and add a new DVc resort on any piece of property in WDW, regardless of whether or not a different DVC resort exists.

They obviously decided that making it a new phase of PVB was what they wanted to do. Because the DVC resort agreement between PVB and BVTC was not set up to restrict resale buyers, they can’t impose those on the new units at Poly tower that end up declared into PVB.

RIV was the first resort to enter into BVTC with them. Every resort before then has the same rules as PVB, and why anyone who buys resale at one of the O14 has trading rights at all the other O14 resorts.

It’s why you can trade into all resorts as a resale owner, and all but RIV and VDH if you bought after January 2019.
