We booked the labor day offer at the Poly this past weekend and now I am just wondering if I should ask the TA to request a particular building/floor! I was going to drop her an email but before that I thought I'd ask here if there would be an preferable longhouse for my family. I am clueless about the layout of the Poly!! Kids will be 3.5 and 1.5 so we will be coming back to the room for naps in the afternoon and a room that is away from the evening luau would be best in case noise woke them. DH and I would love a balcony room so we could sit out at nap time and in the evenings when the kids sleep. Can anyone help me pick what area to request?:thumbsup2

I would look into the Rarotonga and Niue longhouses. Both are close to the Grand Ceremonial House but away from Luau Cove (Fiji is the standard building over there).

We booked the Hawaii longhouse with the theme park view. For us, it was a dream vacation. We requested the third floor for the best view of the castle, and I could see it all night long as I lay on my pillow. It was some distance from the Great Ceremonial House (GCH) (maybe 10 minutes), but we are all about the transportation. The short walkway towards the TTC crosses the ferry dock, so that you can see if there's an MK ferry coming or going. The TTC has the bus and monorail, and that was a quick walk as well. If you want to be close the the GCH, this wouldn't be your choice, but we found it to be fantastic for our needs. You can have your travel agent request it for you, but one week prior to our check-in, I faxed my request to the front desk of the poly. It worked like a charm. Good luck! You really can't make a bad choice - you in Disney staying at the Poly for heaven's sake!!!

My vote goes for the Rarotonga except I would request the ground floor facing the quiet pool. Its really nice being able to walk right out of your room to the pool and to watch the birds and wabbits right out side of your slider. I also like the fact of no elevators. Also if its raining its an easy walk from the GCH.

For clarification sake, Hawaii is all Club Level and Theme Park View is a bookable category so can't be requested though floor can be. Both have to be specifically booked at extra cost.

Other than club level, for garden view I would suggest Fiji and for lagoon view Aeotearoa or Tuvalu and Theme Park View Tuvalu.

We are considering making the jump from YC to the Poly for the Labor Day deal too and I am wondering if we request the Rarotonga or Niue longhouses, would their views face the construction that will probably be at the East pool in late August? Would love the convenience of that side of the resort (close to main building) but don't wanna face construction. lol.

I was wondering this too, as we booked the August Labor Day deal at the Poly. From what I have read, Samoa is the most favored longhouse, however they face the quiet pool which will probably still be under construction at that time. If you were going in Aug, would you request Samoa or something else?

Thanks everyone :goodvibes Can I just ask which longhouses will still have construction near them next September? Is there construction scheduled for the quiet pool around then? Its not the construction itself that would bother me, its the noise that would interfere with naps thus producing cranky kids! Convenience to lobby or transport doesn't matter quite so much, a decent view and noise level are my main deciding factors. Speaking of views, can I request a view at check in (willing to pay for it) if the building they allocate isn't appealing (based on occupany of course!) Thanks a million everyone!!

We were in Samoa and I loved it. This is just my preference/opinion, but I wouldn't hesitate to request Samoa again, with or without pool construction. I love the location of Samoa as it's convenient to just about everything, IMO. It's just steps from the GCH, the volcano pool, Captain Cooks, and the beach. The pool being under construction might bother some, but we wouldn't mind it ;).

The quiet pool is scheduled to go down for refurb sometime after the volcano pool reopens, which is scheduled to reopen in March. If you are assigned a longhouse/room you don't like, you can always ask if a different one is available. We have found the CMs to be very accommodating whenever possible, so if the category you booked is available elsewhere, I'm sure they wouldn't mind moving you. Also, if you are willing to pay for an upgraded view, I'm sure they would be happy to accommodate you with that as well, pending availability :).

I always found the Tikiman's pages helpful:
http://www.tikimanpages.com/poly/the-resort/longhouses

We always put in a request for a specific room in the Tahiti longhouse before they ruined the view with the DVC huts & we always got the room we wanted, or within one or two. We also have used the much-debated "fax the room controller" method, and though I can't say if that was what led to our success, it didn't hurt!

Have fun at the Poly - it was always our favorite. This year we're sailing over to the YC to try something new.

We have stayed in Rarotonga, Fiji and Hawaii. I LOVED Rarotonga. It is literally steps from the GCH, so super easy to get to the restaurants and the monorail and GREAT if it's raining as you barely have to walk outside to get to your room. If you are nervous about construction, you could request Rarotonga, 3rd floor (for the balcony), monorail side.

When we stayed in Fiji, we were on the third floor, marina side. It was great (at the time we could even see Space Mountain from our room! This was 9 years ago though) and we never heard any noise from the luau.

If you want to be away from potential quiet pool construction, I would probably ask for Fiji, marina side.

You have all definitely given me something to think about!! I found a map of the Poly on Touring Plans and you can see views from some rooms when you click on them and noise level, distance to GCH and transport. When I enter my details it keeps telling me the best longhouse for my needs is Tokelau?... Which longhouses have views "ruined" as a result of the DVC going in there? Seen a lot of pictures online but aswe have never even visited the Poly I haven't a notion what I am looking at or where it is really!!
