Poly pool hoppers - recent guests please chime in

Do they ever check resort IDs at the Poly volcano pool? We are staying there next July and I have read several reviews lately about the pool being overcrowded due to pool hoppers. I am bummed because we plan to spend quite a bit of time at the resort swimming each day. Do the CMs there just not care/not check IDs? Anyone who has stayed there recently, please let us know what you observed. TIA!

ID's were never checked when we were there. I suspect the Poly gets a lot of florida residents w/ annual passes coming over from magic kindom. I witnessed a group of teenagers doing this.

I think it isn't just FL residents but guests that decide they need a swim.

I have always thought the Volcano pool should have the same rules as SAB when it comes to checking KTTW cards and keeping all other non Polynesian guests away from the pool. Again I say that is my opinion and no one has to agree with me about it.

We never got asked to see any sort of ID during our stay, and unless the pool hoppers were labeled with a big "PH" on their foreheads, I don't see how they could have been spotted in the first place.

Granted, I'm sure it happens, but I have to wonder if this isn't taking on some sort of "urban legend" aspect. Yes, I've read the reports where people have actually heard people saying that they were from other resorts, so I do believe it does happen, but why let something that you can't control put a damper on your time?

IMO, the pool is crowded because it's small and the resort is large.

No with a very few exceptions. If you are staying at the All Stars you may use any All Stars pool. POR and POFQ can use each others pools. And DVC owners staying on points can use any pool except SAB and AKL provided they aren't tehre during a blackout period.

no only DVC members staying on points at a DVC resort can pool hop. and not on holidays.


If you have a problem during your stay - call the front desk and ask to speak to the manager. He can make the life guards or send out other CM or even security guards to check the ID of everyone in the pool.

but he won't do it unless you complaint.

then when you get back complaint to disney about the lack of security (this is case the manager does nothing) at the Polyn pool.

that is how the BC & YC got more security for their pool.

We just returned yesterday from a week at the Polynesian. It was very hot for most of our week and I was surprised at how UN-CROWDED to Volcano Pool was most of the time! On the afternoon of our arrival day I counted just 25 people in the pool and my son rode the slide almost non-stop with very little wait. We watched "Wishes" from the Volcano Pool one night and I counted about 35 people in the pool (although there were alot more people out on the beach). Only on one afternoon did we have to do a "mall parking lot at Christmas" search for a chair to sit at. We lucked out and grabbed a table just as other guests were leaving (and returned the favor when we left). I did spot 1 obvious pool hopper that afternnoon. As I sat at the table enjoying an ice tea from Captain Cook's I overheard a guy loudly yakking on his cell phone about how he was at the Polynesian pool with his granddaughter and how he just drives around to use various resort pools. From his conversation (he was sitting right behind me) I could tell that he was a local. At least he bought a drink from the bar at the Polynesian!

Even on that crowded afternoon we did not have a problem with getting our "ususal seats" by the water jets in the pool and my kids never waited more than 5 minutes to use the slide. Also, while we didn't make it there on this trip, the "Quiet Pool" was never crowded when we walked by (which we did morning, noon, and night due to our longhouse location). The most people I saw actually in the quiet pool was probably about 15.

We have never seen them check for ID at the volcano pool. GF does occasionally and SAB always.
July is a very busy time at Disney and the resort will probably be booked.

I've never seen IDs checked at the volcano pool. I know when I was there in December it was obvious some folks were pool hoppers but the place wasn't really crowded to begin with. Besides, my mind was concentrated on enjoying my Lapu Lapu and watching my kid swim.

Now if I *do* witness any pool-hopping when I'm at the Poly in 2 weeks I will bring it to the attention of management. Right after I have another Lapu Lapu that is.

when we were at the BC last DEC they checked IDs. They were also checking them at the GF this July.

I was there from 7/20 - 7/27. To me, all of WDW was very crowded. The Poly pools were no exception. We often had a very tough time finding a table during the middle of the day -- sometimes we left our stuff on the ground or on a lounge chair by the beach. Usually we had friends who had a table near the quiet pool, but there would have been no free space otherwise. Lines on the slide were all the way down the stairs at some busier times.

It seemed to me that many people would get to the pools very early and basically camp out for the day. We often do the same thing during our Disney trips, but we spent more time in the parks this trip. However, I was not surprised by this. I expect huge crowds in summer.

I saw people at both pools with major bags and clothing with them, but since you can use the pool before your room is ready on day of check-in or after check-out, I wouldn't know if they were pool hoppers. I agree with earlier posters that short of a PH tattoo or an ID check, it would be very hard to know who might be using the pool without staying at the Poly.

The pool hoppers are not the problem at the Poly. Please keep in mind that that you may have 2,000 guests or more staying at the resort. People tend to use the ameneties at the Deluxe Resorts more. The problem is that the guests are limited to one "quiet pool" and one under-sized main pool. The Poly has always had a problem accommodating guests when the resort was busy and lets face it, when is the Poly not crowded anymore?

The year we stayed, we were never checked. The pools were both pretty full all the time. Because the pools aren't all that big, I just figured that the crowding was due to many Poly people choosing to swim during the hot time of day (it was in August). Didn't occur to me that other people might be there.

We were there the second week of July and didn't find it that crazy. Sure people are using the pool, but by no means was the number of people so overwhelming that there was no room.

On my first day at the Poly this past trip, my daughter started playing with a little girl of similar age at the water feature area. When it was time for us to go, the other girl got upset because they were having such a great time. Anyway, I said well if you are staying here then chances are we will see you again tomorrow as we go to the pool everyday. She cried and said "no - we are pool-hopping from the Beach Club." LoL. I just thought that was funny. Maybe they were BCV people, you know.

So on the last day of my stay, Aug 4th, I watching my son in the pool from the side. I moved a chair up to sit in the shade by some plants which put me next to where the water jets are opposite the slide. There were 4 adults there gabbing. They started talking about how nice the pool was at the Poly and one admitted that they weren't actually staying there. Then the other couple laughed and said they were pool hopping too! hoohaaa! They both then laughed and said how uptight people can get about it and they saw nothing wrong with it because they were such laid back people and who cares anyway? I just kept watching my son. No, didn't say anything. It was my last day and I just wanted my son to have a great last swim before packing up.

Yes, there are pool hoppers at the Poly pool.
