I will be at Disney in September for my honeymoon. My fiancee was told that we should go to the Polynesian Luau. I was thinking about booking this the last night we are there. Has anyone ever been there and is it worth the money?

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think it is definitely not worth the money. We were there in May and were disappointed. The food is okay, but the entertainment leaves something to be desired. The storyline of the show is really lame. It's about a girl who leaves the island and her family to go to the mainland. Then she comes home and remembers her heritage. It's very hokey. At the end there is some hula dancing, but by that point I was very bored. From what I hear on these boards, HDDR is much better for a dinner show.

I've seen it twice in the last 2 years and didn't really care for the show. The fire dancing was the best part, but that comes at the end after you've sat through a bunch of boring stuff leading up to it. Now that doesn't mean that you won't like the "Spirit of Aloha" show so if you're interested in it, I would still recommend going in order to see for yourself. Based on past responses to this question though, I suspect if you ran this as a poll, more people would have a negative response to the "Spirit of Aloha" show than a positive one. Good luck!

Everyone says Hoop Dee Doo beats the Luau hands down. BUT for a honeymoon dinner, I don't think a hoe-down is what you had in mind? Luau might be a little more exotic and romantic.

But why limit yourself? Maybe a nice dinner elsewhere in the World would be a more romantic and personal choice?

ok...I know I am in the minority but as a 30 something couple with no kids we loved it and did think it was romantic in a way. My dbf requested ( and may I say his only request) to go again this trip. By the way grab a drink and walk along the poly beach or grab a hammock and share some romantic time.

Not the food,we like HDDR much more than Luau.::yes:: :wave2:

We have done the Luau the last 2 Decembers and really enjoyed it both times. We thought the food was very good also.

We went to the luau seven years ago and loved it! We made reservations for our trip last week to go again but we ended up being rained out. After reading how many people don't like the Spirit of Aloha I don't feel so bad about missing it.

That being said, we went to the HDDR four years ago and HATED it. The food was not enjoyable and I had a glass of Sangria that tasted like it had been made with kerosene. :crazy2:

I think we're going to swear off any dinner shows from here on out.

Went to the Luau in April & loved the food. The show story line was a little hokey, but the dancing & costumes were good. I almost cancelled after reading reviews but glad I didn't. Most pleasant surprise of our trip!

My mid-twenties husband and I went there last October for our honeymoon. We arrived early so we could stroll the Polynesian resort, such a romantic atmosphere. All of the cast members at this resort really go out of their way to make you feel special.

We were welcomed into Luau cove and had a chance for a romantic photo opportunity. I thought the food was quite good. Fresh and very plentiful. They had the most amazing fresh pineapple and the dessert was to die for!

You are seated at a table with other people but we still felt it was very romantic. There is a part of the show where they ask honeymooners and people celebrating an anniversary to come out to a lower stage area and dance to the traditional Hawaiian love song (obviously this would be optional) but we enjoyed doing that with about 20 other couples.

I thought the story line was "cute" and included a couple songs from Lilo and Stitch. Then the traditional dancing takes up the last part of the show. We definitely want to go back and experience it again sometime.
