So I'm driving myself crazy and DBF is no help.

We are going to Disney at the beginning of January. We were supposed to go for 6 nights but DBF has never been and balked at what we were going to be doing for that many days so I suggested a 4 night trip instead. Of course at that point I also suggested we stay at the Poly because the trip would be the same price (and the transportation would be perfect).

Last night I priced out 5 nights at WL instead of 4 nights at the poly and came up with nearly the same budget even after I include the additional meals and cab fare for meals.

I need a vacation badly and I'm wondering if 4 nights is going to be too short... or if I'm going to regret not staying at the Poly while I had a chance

Any thoughts?

Tough choice, longer stay or staying at the Poly.

I'm going with 4 nights at the Poly because your DBF hasn't been and probably has some picture in his mind of something that doesn't even exist.
Checking in at the Poly is almost like being in Hawaii. So for your DBF it would be two trips in one:rotfl: AND it might convince him that NEXT time your 6 nights won't be enough:)

I know for the men in my family, Poly is the only place to stay. I'm just happy almost anywhere in wdw...almost anywhere.

Here's my thought. Spend some time educating DBF on WDW. Said person needs to understand that there are 4 huge parks to visit plus if you choose wisely with resorts (I like your choices!) then there will be plenty to do there as well. Then ask said person "do you really think 5 nights could possibly be long enough?" Frankly I hear you loud and strong on needing a vacation so maybe DBF needs to learn to heel.

OK - I have some experience here.
Back in 1998 DW begged and begged me to agree to a trip to WDW. She had been several times in her youth, and I had never been. I couldn't see what the big attraction was, didn't care to find out, thought the kids were too young, yada, yada.

Well, DW called me one day and told me she booked a 7 night trip, and if I didn't want to go, I could stay home by myself. We wound up compromising on a five day / four night trip, and off we went.

Long story short, by the second day, I was calling work to extend my vacation, we were adding nights and meals to the trip, and we stayed for two extra nights.

She was right, I was wrong, and now I'm hooked. We are taking our sixth trip in 21 days 22 hours and 57 minutes.

Tell the BF there is plenty to do,and stay as long as you can.

Me? I'd stay at AS or POP for 6 days over GF for 4. I want my time IN the parks.

Good luck!

You don't say where you are traveling from. If you are coming from a long distance, the more time on vacation the better. When we come from CA, it takes a whole day to fly to Orlando and a whole day home. First trip we went for 8 days, second trip for 2 weeks ( that was heaven; spent the second week going to water parks and just really enjoying all the amenities at our resort). The last trip we went for a week. While it was enough time, I would have liked the trip to have been longer. I would definitely stay the extra night. The WL is such a "manly" resort; I can't imagine any guy not liking to stay there. I also love the boats that will take you to MK or the CR; I find boatrides at WDW to be one of my favorite pastimes. Time to get off your feet and relax w/ a cool breeze blowing thru your hair. Wish I were there right now!

I had the same dilemma, Seven nights at WL or Five night at the GF. It was hard but, we chose the GF ONLY because we wanted to experience this resort and we got a really, really good price.

That being said, You really can't go wrong with either resort. The POLY I hear is amazing. The WL is incredible. You are going in begining in January. Sounds like Christmas decorations will still be up and the WL is gorgeous with those decorations.

One thing to consider although these probably wash each other out. January... Low crowds, should be able to push through the parks pretty easily and see most things. Weather and hours..... Colder weather (I mean walking around with scarfs and gloves is possible) might put a "shorter feel" on the park hopping, and the hours will be shorter since they usually cut back on the hours in the winter months. So Four days may not give you and opportunity to really do that much.

Tell DBF if you have an extra day you can go to Pleasure Island and just relax one night in DTD. I would definitely try for the longer stay if possible.

Good luck!

Actually, depending on WHEN you go in January, you may have less crowds, so even though the parks close early, you still get so much accomplished. Plus, they still have evening EMH hours in January. When the other parks close at 7ish ( AK closes usually at 5) we head over to Epcot. Its always open until 9 in January.

UNless you are planning on hanging out at the resorts for long periods of time, and doing things AT the resort.. Id pick the longer trip!! We stayed at the Poly. It was very nice. The view from the beach of MK.. beautiful. But we did have a shorter than usual January trip because we picked the Poly. By the end of the trip.. we all said..should have picked a cheaper place and more days. BUt we are park people! We dont hang out much in our rooms or at the resort.

i would do 5 day at WL. We have stayed at both I think WL so a great choice for the following reasons. The lobby & Fireplace it is awsome, Hot Tub Poly does not have one, & we really enjoy everything in 1 building. Plus you get a whole extra day.

Thanks guys, you all helped me to seal the deal- We will be having 2 meals at the Poly anyway (dinner first night and breakfast before Epcot one morning for Tonga Toast).

We will stay at the WL for the extra night... probably cheaper to fly on a Monday anyway :rotfl:

DBF will just have to use vacation time early next year (he gets enough and never uses it anyway). He can spare 3 vacation days from each job (2 FT jobs) for a real vacation. :thumbsup2

You have made a great choice. I have stayed at both and we prefer the WL simply because it has that "awauy from everything" feel, yet is right in the middle of everything. Poly has the advantage of larger rooms and the monorail, but that is about it for us. Plus the extra day is the real deciding factor!!!:thumbsup2
