Poly DVC

I believe Tikiman's info to be accurate - that Poly DVC will have bungalows and studios only.

After returning from vacation at WDW and catching up on all the posts, and seeing the skepticism regarding the makeup of a Poly DVC, I went back and examined the filings with the South Florida Water Management District.

Tikiman has previously mentioned that both Tahiti and Rapa Nui would be DVC.

Well on the documents filed with the state, Tahiti is shown on the plans as blank with just an outline of the building while Rapa Nui actually shows floor plans for the first floor. I blew those plans up to get a better look and then inquired with Tikiman if these floor plans were the current layout - he said they were not!

The bathroom area looks to be larger than those of a current Poly hotel room, more akin to the GFV Studio bathroom with an extra shower.

Additionally, the connecting door is not where it is on the current layout, suggesting that these may be DVC studio floor pans inadvertently left in the filing documents and not intended to be released by DVC.

Connecting studios would of course mean a greater ability to accommodate parties of more than the normal studio quota in the absence of 1BR & 2 BR villas.

Here is the blow up of the plans, from page 6 of the document which Tikiman has also placed on his Facebook page:

I am hoping that if it is accurate, the use of terms like Grand Villa and Studio in the sense of what we are all used to is inaccurate in that there may not be (4) different traditional offerings like GV, 2Bd, 1Bd & Studios but two new types of layouts. On that sleeps up to 5 (what we are all calling Studios) and one that sleeps up to 8 (one that we are all calling GVs)

If what we are hearing here comes to fruition, I do hope they can figure in a washer/dryer into what will be the studios. If indeed they sleep 5 with the possibility of 2 showers then please give us laundry facility into the room. If that happens then I would be happy and can live with this new concept. If they do not place laundry facilities in the studio rooms, I hope they province a LARGE shared room for laundry that is very conveniently placed in the DVC area.

I hope they don't call the 2BDRM spaces Grand Villas...they truly are not since they do not have the sleeping capacity to be considered a GV. I know the points will be high to stay in one of the larger villas due to it being the Poly and the uniqueness of these rooms but the bottom line they are not GVs.

This is so interesting as this unfolds so I am staying tuned for sure!! Thanks Tikiman for jumping into this discussion and appreciate your "insider knowledge".

I am in no way an expert in DVC and I rely on so many of you to educate me on things but I have some rookie questions.

Does Disney state that Grand Villas have to sleep so many or is this just based on what current GV’s sleep?

Could it be that it is going to be called a Grand Villa and have such a high cost because of its amenities and not because of the amount of guests it sleeps?

TMSIII had a sharp eye on spotting those details on the latest permits. Those room layouts are nothing like the current Rapa Nui rooms. Keep in mind that many Rapa Nui and Tahiti rooms not only connect to one room but some connect to 2 other rooms. They are the only longhouses on property that have 3 connecting rooms but then again it looks like the are cutting in the connections in different locations than the longhouse has now.

DVC has always called the attached 3BR villas, Grand Villas.

The Vero Beach stand alone beach cottages are 3 BR (I think) but are generally called beach cottages.
Treehouses actually have 3 bedrooms, but only sleep 9 and are not called "Grand Villas"

But I don't think there is any actual minimum requirement, just the historical precedent that GV's sleep 12 or 13.

After going on a tour of the GF last week we decided to hold out for the Poly. I have been reading everyone's concerns and disappointment with "possible" room offers. I have the same concerns and also one other that I may have missed if it was posted. If they build the bungalows out by the water what will they do to improve on the lagoon. The water is not in no way anything like Hawaii or the Caribbean. To pay all that money and step out on your balcony to look over murky, smelly water is in no way enticing.

The fact that the water in the lake doesn't *quite* live up to that in real Polynesia has been brought up although I think it was awhile back. I doubt there is going to be anything done to make the water more appealing. I think the Poly will sell itself so they don't really need to do a whole lot else. Although "prettier" water would be nice, I'm not sure what else they really could do.

Build a sea wall around the bungalows as a seperate sting ray reef ;)

Thank you TSMIII and Tikiman for sharing your insight with us.

The connecting rooms certainly makes them more appealing to us. I would happily give up a kitchen to have 2 comfortable real beds plus 2 bathrooms in two connected studios.

Hi Tikiman, California here also. I've been following your site for a while, nice to see you here. My DVC is at Wilderness Lodge, but I use my points at the Grand California Villas at Disneyland.

Aloha Longhairbear,

If we do DVC it will be to use it at Disneyland also and Aulani although I hate to stop going to Maui in favor of Oahu. I wish the DLH would get some DVC rooms.

If this comes to be I can say my family of 3 would never buy here. I might try a stay but 2 connected studios seems overkill (and more points than a one bedroom?)

They would need to guarantee connecting rooms for families.

I hope they will build a DVC in the space between the TTC and the CR.

Expect a name change for the entire resort once DVC is done.

I am extremely disappointed in the lack of two bedroom units. Hopefully this is just phase one.
