Poly DVC

Furniture can and will wear out at all of the resorts at some point, and will be upgraded in due time. Perhaps BLT's furniture has gone south a little sooner than expected, so hopefully, the future upgrades will be of better quality. If that's the only knock against the resort, it's hard to argue against BLT. You make some very good points, and I agree that BLT offers tremendous value, especially as compared to VGF. We will need to see what product DVC puts on the market for Poly and at what price point before we can really form any concrete opinions, but I am not really liking the direction based on the current rumors to this point.

I suspect that sometime in 2014-2015, the resale market will take a slight downturn, making it favorable once again for buyers. During this downturn (if it happens as I predict), I would love to pickup 150-200 BLT points. Then once Poly is ready to hit the market, I suspect DVC will pull the same strings that we saw with VGF, announcing yet another price increase and artifically inflating the market, causing another rush. If these rumors pan out as currently described, I think BLT will become the premier MK resort to own for the great overall value and location as described above.

I own at 4 resorts.... got in in 1994...very early, and BLT is the best DVC yet. love size of OKW rooms, but the ability to walk to MK, view fireworks and having the lowest maintenance fees of all DVC's is an absolute winner! I agree totally. I sold Boardwalk to buy BLT and have never regretted it.:cool1:

Also, very disappointed in the scaling back of the Poly. Keep us informed Tikkiiman!!! love your site! Poly is my fav resort, and have wanted a DVC at Poly back when Beach club was being built..... the thought of bungalows over the water are amazing to me! would buy just for that experience, of course only if points were reasonable. We are down to 3 kids at home and 1BR is a must for us. We cook at lot and wash clothes a lot.

was really hoping they would build this with style like at Aulani.... Walt loved Hawaii and am mad execs are cheap minded. Don't they know folks will pay for quality???? sounds like some execs need to be replaced LOL

and love the volcano pool. will be ticked if that goes away for good.

I will be able to give more details later but I have to sit on the info a while. I already had to pull back some info I let out too soon. The bungalows will be amazxing and different than anything you have seen yet but they will also cost enough points for one night as a studio will cost for a week.

I could imagine and will know soon enough.

We wouldn't stay there or buy there in that case. We don't stay in Studios a 1 bedroom is our minimum as we do long stays so we need the kitchen/laundry.

Pre-DVC, we loved staying at the Poly. But the day I came out of our room and heard race cars, it totally changed my feeling toward the resort. We stayed another time and it confirmed my frustration with the noise from that track. How can I believe I am in this wonderful tropical get-away when there is race car noise?

Is anyone else bothered by this and believes it will affect sales?

I have been staying at the Polynesian just about every year since 1996 and I sometimes spend my whole day at the resort. I can't say I have ever heard the cars once. Not saying you can't hear them but it is obviously not all the time.

We've heard the race track at our Wilderness Villa. I was loving it, but I love cars of all kinds in general.
We hear the train horn here in Palm Springs from miles away, and love it.

You gotta love the train horn.

I also could hear the racetrack from VWL, but I was not really annoyed with it. At the time, we were walking down to breakfast and getting ready to make our way to the park. Over a 7 night stay, I only recall hearing this on one occassion. I do recall hearing the horns from the boat traffic on Bay Lake each and every morning, which I thoroughly enjoyed. For this reason, I will always be requesting "Bay Lake Side" of the villas. Even if you can't really see it from your room, you do get the sounds and a good breeze.

Being that Poly is a little closer to the track and there are far fewer trees to "block" the noise, I could imagine the sounds of that race engine being a little more pronounced. I could understand some frustration if I were trying to read a book on the balcony, expecting peace and quiet of the "South Pacific" paradise islands.

It is simulating the authentic sounds of a Pacific Island racetrack.

So I am relatively new to DVC as I only have owned for about a year and wasn't paying attention before that. Could someone outline the aprox history/timeline of the process of adding a new DVC resort to the system? When does Disney officially start talking about it? Do they start sales early? My wife is demanding that we buy at the poly if dvc happens there so I am wondering what my expectations should be around timing.

It depends...
In the past, DVC has announced a few resorts that didn't happen (Eagle Pines..) nothing is 100% official until sales begin.

On others, DVC has been very tight-lipped until the last minute (they denied BLT being DVC until it was nearly completed).
The GF was announced before any visible construction...with sales beginning in June before an October occupancy.

I've been able to hear the cars while staying at both VWL and BLT. It's sporadic since they aren't running all the time and I doubt it would have any affect on Poly sales.

Well put. I will say that we here on the DIS usually put our heads together to sift through the rumors and evidence and leaks and know what the next one will really be. My money's on Polynesian still. If you are DVC already, tell your guide that IF DVC were to announce the Poly, you'd want to be in line. If you aren't, you should take a tour and get in their prospect system and get a guide assigned... and wait...

That is good to know. We will be in Disneyland next month and I saw they had that big DVC preview next door. I was thinking of going in there and checking it out.
