Poly construction starting next month?

Andrew and Lockedout - both you gentlemen are spot on. I'm just a beach fan and kind of a snob for the whole clear blue water thing. Those villas over the lake will be themed to the 9's and a very hot commodity - even if they are over brown/green murky water! ;)

I just think you have to be familiar with what the Polynesian represents... It had a "walts hotel" nostalgia to it... Even disneylanders have alot
Of affection towards it.

The contemporary probably does too...but not like the old brown huts.

The grand Floridian has practically no following...none. It's pricey and nice... But flat on appeal next to its older sisters.

This thing will go nuts

I agree that a Poly DVC will sell ridiculously fast but that's kinda why I'm wondering why they would want to spend the extra money to build the bungalows. I think sales will be through the roof with or without them.

If a quick sale is expected, they will need to have a LOT of points, something that doesn't seem to be the case given that Tikiman is now hearing no new buildings are coming, otherwise DVC will be left with nothing left to sell. If they sell the Poly out in a year or so, which I think is reasonable given its following and anticipated size, they are going to have to have another DVC being built while the Poly construction is finishing just to have something to offer once it sells out. I would, therefore, expect other plans to start popping up at some point, possibly sooner than later if the "River Country" DVC is in the works as SFWMD would have to be involved.

I also will be very quick to buy in. We just shed our BWV and VWL contracts just to be in position to buy when the points finally do become available.

i can't wait! :goodvibes pretty sure i will want that one as well as my others. i am a dvc lover of the worst kind.

i will probably never stay in the larger units as i have a small family. studio and 1br usually. 2br only if the kids bring a friend. therefore the over-the-lake grand units will just look attractive and be useful to a few. do you think there will be a boat pickup at the grand units?

i love the poly as it is and will love it more as a dvc home.pixiedust: i think it will sell really fast as blt did.

Steve (Tikiman) posted a letter sent to some travel agents regarding construction at the Poly:

"Resort Renovations will begin at the Polynesian resort starting in September that will enhance the entire resort. As part of these ongoing renovation projects, views in some Guest rooms will be impacted beginning in September. In order to accommodate guests, Disney will be making changes to certain room categories in impacted buildings. The renovation will impact views from some rooms in buildings 5, 9, 10 and 11. Also, beginning in September, a portion of the east parking lot nearest to building 11 will temporarily close. In addition to that, access to the beach area on the east side of the resort, as well as Sunset Pointe (the grassy hill overlooking the Seven Seas Lagoon, located between the east beach and the main beach near the Nanea Volcano pool), will be unavailable. All other amenities (restaurants, pools, merchandise locations, etc.) will be available."

He mentions he may post a new article soon regarding the details he's received from his sources.

We bought BCV when they first when on sale and got a midsize amount of points. I have resisted adding on waiting for my Poly. I will certainly be adding on. I think there is a huge amount of interest in Poly DVC. I think its a big mistake to scale back. I think they would need the tower building and the bungalows. I hope they don't cheap out and screw up my long awaited dream add on.:goodvibes

Get ready for sticker shock then...

Your points at beach club were a steal (about $70 bucks before discount)...points now are
Getting close to a ripoff

Yeah-- I want more, but I am glad I don't need more.

I would definitely use more... But at double the cost it completely throws the value of the contract out of whack...

Honestly, when I see people talking about dumping a 1990's for a new one...they are just wasting money.

Is the 11 month window really that big of a deal? Except for a few isolated times of the year I have never given it a thought. And if you have to go during Christmas or "Easter"...then you're torturing yourself anyway.

I'll stay at the GF and this thing if built on my garden variety Saratoga points...just like we stayed at beach club and contemporary last year... And won't notice the difference.

Don't get me wrong - They'll sell fast. I'm just saying no matter how you present it - The Seven Seas Lagoon / Bay Lake is still a man made lake that looks something more like a lake you'd see in Michigan or Wisconsin than French Polynesia....

It won't be like the ocean but bay lake and the seven seas lagoon are still beautiful. They sparkle in the sun and there is a great breeze off of them. Not bora bora but still gorgeous.

Agreed-- I never have a problem with the 7 month window. I couldn't imagine paying current prices for memberships.

Now granted, I've never been to Bora Bora, I'd take brown murky water over clear blue water any day. Of course I'm biased in that I grew up on the Great Lakes. One of DW and my first "fights" was about what color water is supposed to be. I say green...she wrongly says blue. ;) Though I don't know how many people out there are like me, you won't need that many people to fill up a handful of bungalows.
