I chose the Polynesian for my upcoming trip because of all of the wonderful things I have heard about it. Lately, it seems people feel the staff is not quite so friendly or accommodating. I also keep hearing the rooms are beginning to show their age and some even have a bad smell. This will be my first concierge experience. Should I be concerned or think about switching to another resort?

I'd say try it...the worst that could happen is they switch you to a different resort like we did.

I stayed at the Poly concierge this past December. The staff was very helpful and nice on our trip, and any odor that was in our room aired out within the first 5 minutes. The food offerings in the lounge were superb, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Give it a try! :)

The Polynesian is truly a wonderful resort! I think you'll have a wonderful time. We've had 25 vacations there..all so memorable. The CMs at the resort are great. The only exception we've found is some of the concierge staff at the desks. In the lounge, they're great. Bell service is great, front desk is great, room service is great, restaurant and shop CMs are great, management is great! Mousekeepiing does a wonderful job. The rooms are large, the grounds are beautiful, the view of the castle from the beach is very special. The transportation is the best. Oh, did I mention that we love the Poly? Enjoy your trip and your memories!!

I can't wait to stay at the Poly. If I listen to everything I read on here I would be cancelling my trip. it isn't a long term stay, just something different for me. I want to be able to say I have stayed at every Disney hotel. I am not out to compare, they all have there good points and bad points. I also think it is what we make of our trips when we get down there. if we set ourselves up for disapointment we will be disapointed, I just go down with a smile on my face, a bouce in my walk and have the best time ever. Poly, here I come, BWI, you're following. Mickey, keep smiling:D :bounce: :Pinkbounc :smooth:

We loved the poly concierge. We had been to the poly two other times room only and it has always been our fav resort, the theme, the grounds, the pools, the ducklings, bunnies, large white stork like birds, the flowers, and lush vegetation, the cleanliness, the large rooms, the people there are very friendly.

We just came back three weeks ago, the rooms were clean, the bathroom very clean, looked like the room had just been renovated, beautiful green marble in the bathroom, new shower curtain. No complaints, nice size also.

The only non bubbly people were when hubby checked in, the man that checked us in at the hawaii building hubby felt he could use a bit more enthusiasm for guests checking in.

We did not receive the flower lieys, but also only d hubby went to check us in, so dd and I went to the main building to get them there, the lady there with the lieys and gave us a big hug each and gave us two more lieys and asked us to give d hubby and son a hug from her.

Everyone else couldn't do enough for us. The lounge staff is the best, ask for anything they will try to get it for you. The food in the lounge was healthy, good food. The view from the lounge is fab.
If I could afford it, I would stay concierge again for the lounge and the meals there.

I wouldn't let some non enthusiastic check in guy turn me off the rest of the vacation, that can happen anywhere.

We were there in Nov. and will not be returning. We had many problems. We never received an itinerary, and when I inquired about the PS's they had mad for me the told me the wrong time for 2 of them (they only made 3 for us.) The room had a musty smell to it, DD has asthma and had to use her inhaler many times, but she did not need it at all when we were at AKL. She is allergic to mold, so I think that might have been the problem. When I ask the concierge staff to check on the time of the Osborne Family Lights preview, she gave me the phone # and told me to call myself. We requested 1st floor, but got 2nd, we spoke with another family that was there the same days as we were, they requested 2nd and got 1st. I know a request is not a guarantee, but couldn't they have switched our rooms? The food in the lounge was great, but twice it was gone before the posted serving times were over. I guess we could have asked for food, but the staff saw us and did not offer to bring anything out, so we did not feel comfortable asking. I have written 3 letters to WDW complaining about our stay and have not received any reply. We had a great vacation even with all of these problems. We are going back in 2 weeks, but will not stay at the Poly. I don't want to ruin your trip, but you asked, and my choice would be not to stay there.

The rooms in the concierge building were all renovated last summer while we were there and look great. I have never smelled anything and have always had great service from the staff. I could not ask for any more from a resort.

Remember with all the people that post on here you are going to get some that don't like something so don't let their bad reports ruin your trip.

You will have a great time.

Aloha

Steve

We've stayed at the concierge twice and will spend part of our July stay there as well. We do it for the food offerings mostly, and the extra service. I mostly make my own PSs, although I have trusted them with my Ohana PS for my BDay--I hope they made it because if I have to eat room service that day I'll be pretty ticked!;) The only time we have had a problem with staff was with a non-working remote control--they told me to call down and they'd tell me how to reprogram it! DH dropped it off at their desk and they told him the same thing, and he said "we'll be at MGM today and we'll pick it up when we come back!" Other than that it's been fine. Tara checked us in in December and she was great.

We've always enjoyed our stays in Polynesian concierge service. We are fairly bursting with anticipation for our next trip and have our 2003 trip roughed in already!

Have there been negatives, of course--that brusque guy at the concierge desk is probably the same thorn in our sides for the past four years (either that or a clone). Have we been told to call ourselves for information, etc.--Yep, did we accept that answer--Nope--we politely asked that the person assisting us do it instead--after all it's part of what you are paying for--service and assistance.

Has the concierge lounge run out of certain foods over the years--most certainly! One night there was an absolutely horrendous storm that kept most of us inside rather than venturing our for PS. Obviously, there was a rush on the food in the lounge. We went in for dinner late (I'd say around 6:30 p.m.) and things were pretty much gone. Chef Dick was there and my husband mentioned that we hadn't been able to get our for our PS and waited too late for concierge dinner. Chef Dick immediately went to the kitchen and made more pasta and grilled chicken, made sure the sides were replenished, and even asked if what he had made would be sufficient to feed the four of us. If it wasn't, he was going to make more!

You see, sometimes you have to make your needs known rather than depend upon people to know what you need/want. If I had one complaint over the years, it's a certain male at the check-in/information desks--he has been downright rude and lacking in the customer service area. I am truly surprised he's still there--if in fact, the latest report is the same gentleman. He wasn't working when we were there last year--we just figured he'd been moved or "retired".

Anyway, in this rather verbose way, I'm trying to tell you there is good and bad--express your needs/wants, ignore what you can't change (although you should report any major problems), and enjoy the hospitality!

ALOHA!!!

We just came back from the Poly Concierge level and thought over all it was wonderful. Some staff isnt as up to par as we would have liked.... but we will not hesitate to stay there again. We didnt notice any aging.... everything was clean and well taken care of.

Dont worry..... The Poly is soooo relaxing.... you will have a great time!

had to chime in here... we are dvc members, our home resort is bwv... but we stay at the polynesian concierge every chance we get...
just there over april vacation, 1st floor, lagoon view. this resort is truly magical. the service is wonderful. and, there are NO
smells.
we are planning to spend xmas there, 12/19-12/30.
all the disney resorts are wonderful, but for us, the polynesian is the best!!!
enjoy! you will have a great time.

We also just returned from the Poly Concierge - and overall it was wonderful. The check-in staff needs a little more Disney magic added, but as everyone has mentioned the concierge staff were great.

There was a light smell in the hallway of the Hawaii building, but it smelled like carpet cleaner to me - nothing like mildew or anything sour. Our room was very clean. The food offerings were great and it is great to be able to have water and sodas available all day.

I would definitely recommend the Polynesian :D

Hi Dagney and dwdeb: I noticed the carpet cleaner smell in the hallway as well, but our room was very fresh and inviting.

Christmas at the poly, wow, that would be fun.
