What room(s) should I request if we are looking for an unobstructed 1st floor view?

Thanks!

Teresa

I just came back from the concierge floor at the poly. It was great I loved it. I don't know why you want first floor but if it is because of stairs they have an elevator. anyway on the first floor I do not think that there are any clear views on the first floor you will see the water which is beutiful but to see the castle and the fire walks I think that you schoold stay on a higher floor. Sorry I do not think I was much help

I appreciate your honesty.

I'd prefer a second floor, but they don't have balconies, so I'm not sure how happy we'd be without one? Any thoughts?

The 3rd floor is out since it is a smoking optional, DH is very opposed to even the "hint" of smoke.

Wait for Tikiman to respond--he can tell you what first floor rooms have clear views. If I remember right, it's 1501-1505 or 1512 on up. We are going in July for 2 nights and these are the numbers I asked for. I think Tikiman himself stays in 1505.
If 3rd floor is out I would stay with first. The reason why we booked LV on 1st floor is to walk right out and get those hammocks! You'd have a great view on second floor, but would have to get completely out of the building another way to enjoy the beach.

Hi! We were at the Polynesian LV concierge 5/12 - 19 and we had room 2505 - no obstructions. Great view of the castle, GF & Space Mountain! :) We are used to having a balcony but did not miss it. The lounge is just a short walk down the hall - very convenient. We watched the water parade on the beach...very relaxing.

Hope you have fun - we did!!

We just got back from the Poly Lagoon View Concierge. We stayed one night on the second floor (Room 2502, they said that they did not have any first or third floor rooms available) which did not have a balcony. The view was great, but we really wanted a balcony or patio.

We were moved to the Room 3518 for the rest of the week, which we loved. The balcony was great. The view was wonderful. The castle, the Electric Water Pagent and fireworks were right there in front of us. We too were concerned about the smoking but there was absolutely no scent of smoke in our room, none. The only smoke we smelled the entire time was once when our neighbor was out on their balcony and that was just one whiff. The first floor is nice too, but I agree, I think that the view is blocked a little. I was also concerned that our sons might wander off.

Robin - thanks for the room numbers, I'll be sure to make a note of them. Have a great time in July!

Jill - Thanks for the room number, I'm going to talk to DH about the best floor for us tonight. I've written the room you had down :-). I wish the 2nd floor had balconies!

JayCT - thanks for your input. I'm afraid we may miss the balcony too. If we didn't have the kids with us, it wouldn't make a difference. However, I'd like somewhere to sit quietly with DH after we put them to bed. Do you happen to know how the Poly eliminates the smoke odors if someone happened to smoke in the room before us?

Thanks again everyone for your replies :-)

I don't know what they use but it certainly works. I was concerned and really tried to notice a smoke smell, but couldn't.

The balcony was great for relaxing after the kids are asleep. But most of the time, we were in bed not long after the kids. We were more tired than them. The kids (ages 6 and 4) stayed up to 9:00 every night to watch the Electric Water Pageant. There were fireworks two nights that we were there and our 6 year old stayed up until 10:00 for them, but was in at 9:00 the other nights. It was great because we didn't have to walk from the beach. They just hopped into bed and were sleeping soon after that.

1505 on the first floor has an amazing view... not obstructed in the least! I would say first floor is the way to go!

We just returned from 7 nights at Poly concierge 1st floor, Room 1507 & it was a wonderful location. Out from our patio was a small (low) hedge with a Palm tree on either side and a direct view of the Castle between them. It was so nice to be able to walk out to the beach hammocks & the low hedge gave us a little privacy from the people walking by. It was also nice to be closer to the elevator, previously we had been on the first floor but at the end of the hall. I know many people prefer balcony views and I love them too until I sit down & the railing blocks my view, my DH & DD's are really bothered by smoke so we never wanted to chance worrying about a breeze carrying any over. Whatever you decide I'm sure you will find they will be as accomodating as they can at the Concierge.

We've stayed Poly LV concierge four times - and every time on the first floor. The rooms we have had there have had NO obstructed views; in fact, the views were spectacular. We also loved being able to open the patio door and walk right out to the beach for the water parade and the fireworks. I know you'll have a wonderful time no matter what floor you're on. :)

The views from the first floor of the castle and fireworks are just as good as from the 3rd. I have been in both a 3rd and first floor room and I prefer the 1st floor for the amount of room you have on the patio and the access to the beach. The only difference in the 1st floor view and 3rd floor view would be you see the shore of the beach from a different angle. The rooms that have partial blocked view are 1506-1511. Some of these views are only partly blocked by low bushes and some palm trees but you can still see the lagoon and castle in some cases. The rooms 1501-1505 and 1512-1518 are clear views. There are some trees on the beach in front of 1503 and 1504 but they do not block the view much. You can see pictures of the 3rd floor view and 1st floor view as well as that side of the Hawaii longhouse on my web page.

I hope this helps.

JayCT - Thanks again for your input! We also look forward to watching the parade and fireworks and the kids just climbing in bed!

Andy123 - Thanks, room 1505 sounds like the room to be in!

JungleMansion - I hadn't even thought about the railing blocking our view. Thanks for your input!

Mary- Thanks for replying, I'm sure we'll have a wonderful time too!

Steve - Thanks for the room numbers. Your website is wonderful and quite helpful.

After discussing it with DH last night, we ruled out the 2nd floor because he definitely wants a place we can sit and not disturb the girls. Then we ruled out the 3rd floor because he's concerned that we may be unlucky and get a room that does have a smoke odor. So the 1st floor it is! And we'll be sure to request one of the rooms suggested, hopefully they will be able to accomodate us!

Thanks again everyone for all your help!

Teresa

The pictures of the views on my web page are of room 1505. It has been our room every year so far since staying in Concierge. You can click on the Mickey ears on the picture of the view from the room to enlarge it. Actually I will post it below. There are more pictures of the patio and the building on the pages. Just don't take the room while we are there.;)

Aloha

How well do you see the Electric Water Pageant from the first floor patio? It is on barges that stretch the whole length of the resort's water frontage. From Tikiman's picture, it looks like it may be blocked by people standing on the sidewalk or even the lounge chairs.

Tikiman - did you notice this, or is it just an optical illusion? Would like to know for our next trip. PS -we love your website, it was a great help in planning our trip two weeks ago. Thanks for having it.

It sounds like they're pretty good about filling room requests, since you're able to get the same room every time. How do you do it? Do you fax, note it on your reservation, or what? In the past (at other resorts) our requests have been hit or miss...mostly miss, but I've never faxed, just noted it on the reservation. I'd really like a 1st floor room with a great view this time!

Steve - Great picture and great view, thanks for posting it!

JayCT - good question, it does have the apperance that other people could be in the way. I'm curious to know too!

The only night I have ever seen that many people on the beach during the shows is 4th of July and even then we can see everything from our patio with no problem. The rest of the time we are there, there is almost no one on the beach watching the shows between the longhouse and the beach. Most are over around the pool area or on their own patios or balconies. The beach actually drops down from the level of the patio. The electric water pageant is right directly in front of the Hawaii longhouse and pool area.

Steve

Thanks for explaining! I'm filling out our room request on the PVI right now!

Just as an aside.....I found the Polynesian beds to be the most comfortable I have slept on at any Disney resort! Not sure if they are different..??
