Poly Concierge food?

I just wanted to thank those who answered back on this. As I said, I am very new to this board. I really thought I said something or did something inappropriate after reading joepoe's response.

I agree with those that said it--I did pay for it. Not only the room, but everything in the concierge lounge including the "use of their tables." It's not like I brought food in from outside the park/resorts? It was simply room service and there was plenty of room. I certainly never hoarded anything. All I'd hoped to do was let someone know what I had seen and experienced during what I thought was an awesome trip--nothing more. I thought these boards were set up to "share information and services, etc." not beat each other up.

To Tikiman--thank you for "hooking me" on Poly concierge. Your website sold me. It was our first trip to Poly and first time concierge. I cannot thank you enough for your input. This trip was to spend a girl's only trip with my DD-14! What a magical time we will have etched in our memories forever!!!! She fell in love with this place (she's like her mom!) Thanks again.

We have stayed Poly concierge twice, once in June of this year. They intend for you to take drinks etc to your room, that's why they provide an empty refrigerator. They encouraged our 6 yr old son several times to take extra uncrustables for later! I couldn't agree more that the concierge staff is great. They were very helpful to us. Not only did we have our 6 yr old but also our 4 month old with us. Please continue to post your opinions and experiences, and try to ignore those who are not happy people.

I also agree with Steve, we were there in april and encouraged to take something back to our room for a snack.

We took our breakfast back to our room every morning and sat on our patio and ate it, anything that was left over went into our fridge for a snack later. Now we took things in moderation.

Our concierge price was multiplyed by our exchange rate of $1.61 (from canada) back in april, which made it extrememly expensive, but it was our 25th wedding anniv family trip, so we splurged.

Thank you Steve for your site and recommending the concierge we just loved it.

Sorry I referred to people as pigs because they expect they can have breakfast lunch and dinner in concierge. I always thought it was continental breakfast and then snacks and appetizers for everyone to enjoy throughout the day. A place to relax, have a snack and a drink.

For the record, on our trip to Poly Concierge in August, we were encouraged by several members of the staff, at check in and later, to help ourself to drinks, etc. and take them to the rooms, parks, etc. It was also made clear to us that use of the lounge was not restricted to eating the items in the lounge. When we checked in, the cast member specifically mentioned getting a bite at Captain Cooks (it was 1:00 P.M.) and bringing it up to the lounge if we wanted.

As with anything, there is common sense and courtesy involved. If the lounge is busy (such as at breakfast) it makes sense to be a tad more expeditious and not linger for an hour or more (deliberate exageration!) over coffee when others are waiting for tables. By the same token, one shouldn't feel needlessly rushed either. There is a middle ground somewhere.

Can't we all just get along!

about people being piggish. It has been a while since I stayed concierge at the Poly, but I can recall times when there were people waiting on tables (so tying up one for an extended period would not be particularly considerate) and when people would literally empty a serving platter onto a tray and take with them, leaving none of that item for others. THAT IS RUDE. It is different if there is plenty of space and you aren't taking most of the food! I think they expect people to take items to their rooms, because they are more comfortable there or want their snack later, but I have been shocked at some who do apparently think concierge means they do not have to buy any additional food during their entire stay. My understanding is that it is meant to be continental breakfast and generous snacks, not making three full meals plus snacks. BTW, being nice goes both ways, and perhaps there could have been a little more understanding of what might have been meant by the "piggish" comment without folks getting in such a huff.

Well at least you now know that the food is so good people are fighting over it. Seriously, we stayed at the Poly concierge last year (and may again this) and loved it! It was great food and a relaxed atmosphere. I never felt anyone was judging each other or watching what was being taken. They encouraged you to bring things back to the room, it can be easier for a family with young kids to eat in the room. We took food back to the room and out to the pool and out to the lagoon to have dessert and watch the fireworks. That is part of what makes concierge worth the extra money. I truly think that staying at the Poly concierge is magical, I loved it. (And thank you Tikiman, it is because of you we went there.)
