I really want to stay at the contemporary resort next trip but am worried it wont be as magical as the poly was for our girls. their fave part was seeing the castle from the pool and watching wishes on the beach. From what I have researched and I may be wrong, but there is no where like that at the CR right?
the only place to see the castle is from inside right?? can you watch wishes from anywhere outside at the CR??

thanks in advance

I haven't stayed at CR since 2003 but you can see glimpses from the pool but no music piped in- not the same. CR is a classic and I feel like I should have gotten more disney magic staying there but I didn't. The walk to MK is priceless but not in comparison to all of the amenities at the Poly. Especially the atmosphere in the Grand Concourse- it feels almost like an airport to me. We stayed at the CR 6 years before we stayed at the Poly but I can't imagine doing vice versa- I would have been disappointed. Financially there's two ways of looking at it- save a little money or spend more to have an Atrium CL room with an MK view. I feel like those rooms really highlight the advantage of staying at CR and being so close to MK.

Thanks. That is kind of how I feel too. I think we will only stay there if we do TPV but I wondered what other people thought of garden wing rooms or Lv rooms if they had stayed at poly too?

If their favorite part was seeing the castle and watching the fireworks, then a theme park view room would be awesome to them. It's much closer than the one's with a view at the Poly.
I kinda feel the same way about the Poly that pp feels about the CR. To each his own:)

We've stayed at both the Poly, garden view and the Contemporary Theme park view. First stay was at the poly which we did love but decided to give the Contemporary a try when we saw pics of the view of the Magic Kingdom from the balconies. That view of the theme park is like no other. We went back for that view the last 3 times. I must admit that I did not think I would like the contemporary as much as the Poly but the view has me hooked. It felt like we were sleeping in the Magic Kingdom. We kept the drapes open the first night and I kept and eye on the castle. Wishes and the electric water parade from the balcony were fabulous. Also you can go out on the observatory deck to see the castle and or fireworks at the Contemporay. I did not try but I am thinking it is possible to go out on the Contempoary beach and see the electric water parade. Maybe someone else could chime in on that as I am not sure. You really cannot go wrong with either of these places as far as I am concerened.

Thanks, that view sounds amazing and is what keeps drawing me back to the cr. is it wrong I can justify tpv because our flights will be free? lol. And hoping to use miles for tickets too. if I can get all that for free is it worth it.

For some reason I am still drawn to the poly too?!?!

I think you should try the CR theme park view. The view is amazing! It truly is an experience. If you still don't love it, then you'll definitely know you're a Poly person;) The first time we went, we booked our stay for the Poly in a lagoon view room, but we had a pretty poor experience there. It was a combination of really bad customer service and a really dirty building and room...so we switched over to the CR tpv room. It was actually cheaper than our Poly room, and the cm's there were great!

wow. that is crazy that it was cheaper! if tpv was cheapest we would definitely do it. Was that a room discount to get it cheaper??

Nope, the first time we stayed on site and booked a package through Disney we didn't know to look into those things. Typically, when we price out the resorts a tpv room at CR is the least expensive of that room type, while a lv at the Poly is second, and the tpv room at the GF is the most expensive (Which is totally not worth paying for!).

Yeah any non standard view room at the Poly is going to be more expensive than a room in the CR tower regardless of the view

My children and I loved watching Wishes and viewing Cinderella Castle from CR when we stayed. Like a previous poster said, it feels so close. Between that and having the monorail RIGHT THERE we felt like we were immersed in Disney 24/7.

also the 1 bedroom DVC (maybe rent from an owner) is even better... space and view ;)

Thanks for that. I always thought tpv at cr would be the most expensive. we loved the poly and just had a std view which i think is garden now. Will have to price things out then and see.

thanks. will look into this. frusturating part is my inlaws who are coming with us could rent there but my mil wants to save her points for something else, but thats a whole other story! ha ha

Hi! What floor were you on in the Cont? Did you have club?

Thanks

We've stayed on the 6th, 8th and 10th floor, no club. Regular dining plan two of those times and quick service one time while staying at the Contemporary.

How funny! Same boat here, give or take a year or two. We had stayed at CR since 1997 and always loved it. We had stayed at GF a time or two as well, but always went back to CR. I decided I wanted to have tried all the monorail resorts, so I decided to try Poly. I had never had the desire to stay there, and I figured, we go every year, if we don't like it, we will go back to CR next year.

Well!!! I had no idea how I would fall completely in love with Poly. It's completely different (obviously) from CR. I really LOVED CR, and thought I would always stay there.

I think I just love the relaxed atmosphere, and the grounds. There's something a little "sterile" about CR, and it lacks the lovely tropical landscaping of Poly. I still have wonderful memories of CR that I wouldn't trade for anything, but my heart now belongs at Poly.
