What type of OTC medication do you think is most effective?

The pollen count here is off the chart right now. You can literally see it hanging in the air and there's a yellow film all over everything outside. Bleah!

DS is home for spring break and he's miserable. He usually takes Claritin for his allergies but he says it's not helping at all.

Does anyone have anything else they've found works well?

This is the worst I can ever remember the spring pollen season. I have never had an allergy problem and it's even bothering me.

I haven't found Claritin to be very helpful this year. I've had a really bad allergy problem the last week or so. I had to get a prescription for Allegra, an eye ointment, and Nasonex.

Benadryl is very effective OTC med. The dose is for two every 4-6 hours but they cause drowsiness. You could cut the dose to one every 4 hours during the day and then take two at night when you will be going to sleep.

Benadryl for the allergies; Sudafed for the congestion it causes. If the congestion gets too bad I take Mucinex. I use a saline nasal spray to clean out those passages. I also use an allergy eye drop by Bausch & Lomb. Can you tell I have bad "seasonal" allergies?
