Ewww! I wonder why the kids don't protest, mine would.

Because honestly often the people who do this are not from the states. It truly is a 'cultural thing'. In many other cultures they don't have an issue with a prepubescent child running around topless or even completely nude. Many cultures don't see a problem with women publicly sunbathing topless. But I would bet you $$ that is why the child(ren) don't object...because in their home culture, this is 'normal' behavior.
Do I agree with it? NO. I think when you are visiting another culture you should adapt to their practices for the duration of your visit. Therefore, I would not visit a culture that practices nudity. Not because I believe it is 'wrong' but *I* would not feel comfortable adapting to that practice while visiting.

My biggest pet peeve on our last cruise was people (most likely staff) dragging the deck chairs around on the adult deck at 7 in the morning. We were in Concierge, directly underneath deck 13, and never heard any noise from up there except early, early, early in the morning. Pick the chairs up and move them. They're not that heavy. Don't be lazy. If you can't pick them up then have someone help you.

7 is early early early? Sorry, just doesn't seem that early to me, unless you've been staying up, dancing the night away the night before....

7am is definitely early! After late seating ended at 10:00 and we ended up visiting a bit or resting in our stateroom, we didn't go to sleep until at least midnight. We weren't dancing the night away...just doing the normal cruise thing. Yes, 7am is early and I surely wouldn't have wanted to be woken up that early.

Maybe I will change my tune once on the ship, but I am still in awe that most of the things on the ship don't appear to start until 8:30 in the morning. DH and I always wake up early, even on vacation, so 8:30 seems late. Even 7 seems late to me. But we're just weird like that, I guess.

We stayed up later than normal on the cruise, and it's the only venue where my kids have slept in, pretty much ever! So for us, it was ok. Even on the day the kids were up by 7, we all got ready and then went to Royal Court for breakfast. By the time that was done things were revving up.

The kids clubs usually open at 9.

He probably has a way to see link backs to his blog, and saw people here calling him miserable, which, undoubtably made him pretty miserable.

Maybe this is already here--people who claim lounge chairs by the pool or on the beach for every member of their family, even the kids who then never use the chairs. Doesn't bother me when there are plenty to go around, but when people are standing around looking for a chair, it's annoying. My family of 4 with 2 young kids only needs two chairs. Sometimes only one. And if we are all going in the pool, I just put our stuff on the deck without taking up a chair.

My biggest pet peeve would be coming down with a serious illness like leukemia prior to the cruise. Most of the rest of posts here are small potatoes in comparison.

I understand your point, and have empathy for it, but having someone in my family who has a blood condition that's not treatable and from the same family of leukaemia, life goes on, and pet peeves are still there. Maybe less important but still there.

Both valid points. We've had some life-threatening health experiences in my immediate family, and there are times when we stop and remind ourselves how blessed we are and how any problems we have now pale in comparison to the problems we had then. But I still get annoyed when someone hogs the pool chairs!

We cruised for the first time last October, and I was sad to see DCL change their policy about shorts in the dining rooms. I thought people might out in some more effort during meal times, we saw so many people in just shorts and so many casual attires. We dressed up every night, not formal or anything, just nice pants/skirts and dresses.

I feel the same way! I was disappointed to see the dress policy changed. I love dressing up for dinner every night on a cruise. How many opportunities do you have to do that? I had hoped that most guests would feel the same way, but I seem to be in the minority. On the cruise, every night is a special night in a beautiful restaurant. And I can wear a t-shirt and shorts any other day.

We actually had this problem on our first cruise - we were up and ready and there was no place open for breakfast yet! We didn't have to wait more than 15 minutes or so for the buffet to open, but it was kind of weird being in our cabin with no where to go. We never ate breakfast in the dining rooms because we could never wait that long!

Not to start a debate but I am genuinely interested to know which culture I am visiting on a Disney cruise? It's an American brand for sure but it's now publicly owned on a global scale. They cruise on more than one continent with more ports outside of the US than within American waters. Their ships aren't registered as American vessels (they are actually registered in a Sovereign State) etc I had a similar conversation the other day and we couldn't agree on it.

Using "kids" as an excuse gets old when you have been waiting for something for a long time, you let the kid stand in front of you, and then Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie Em and Teenage Brother try to squeeze in too. Because the kid is up front they believe they deserve to be there too.

Why bother even trying to wait for things if that's going to happen because you made sure someone's kid could see.

OK the big one...wait and let folks get off the elevator before you try to get on. Yes, lots of kids do this. I have gratitude for the parents who at least try to teach them to stand back and let people off the elevator.

My personal FB rules don't allow me to join and do a lot of conversing with a group made up of people I don't actually know. and I only friend people I've actually met or who know my friends that I've actually met. My own rules, but it means I can't participate fully in FB cruise groups.

I agree with this. I don't enjoy dressing up; it isn't relaxing to me and vacation is 100% about relaxation. My dress shouldn't diminish anyone else's dining experience. It's not like we roll in in cut offs and a mustard stained t. And even if we did, I still don't think it should diminish another's experience. Just my ever most humble opinion.

JMO, but, if I'm going to a formal event (yes I like to dress up) and, when I show up, I find that over half the people there are wearing shorts and Hawaiian shirts, it does change the "feel" of the event. I'll still enjoy myself, but it just isn't the same.
