Poll- Your Pet peeves

JMO, but, if I'm going to a formal event (yes I like to dress up) and, when I show up, I find that over half the people there are wearing shorts and Hawaiian shirts, it does change the "feel" of the event. I'll still enjoy myself, but it just isn't the same.

How about a Hawaiian shirt with a tux? That's what I wore to Remy. :thumbsup2

could you please submit a list of the cultures that practice nudity....i want to make sure to visit them...NOT...I meant not visit them....nope, not looking at nude women...nosiree!!!!;):rolleyes1

Can I also have this list, for "research" purposes

I feel the same way! I was disappointed to see the dress policy changed. I love dressing up for dinner every night on a cruise. How many opportunities do you have to do that? I had hoped that most guests would feel the same way, but I seem to be in the minority. On the cruise, every night is a special night in a beautiful restaurant. And I can wear a t-shirt and shorts any other day. ;)

I mean this with no disrespect, I am sure you are a lovely person, but I honestly do not understand how the dress of others has an affect on your enjoyment of the cruise. I do not even notice others in the dining room, unless they are acting foolishly, or it is a woman who insists on wearing a low cut shirt in my line of site (very offensive, but I must look to verify) :duck:

Your post was very respectful, so the following peeve is NOT directed at you. I swear.

Another pet peeve is those who act like me wearing shorts to dinner somehow destroys their cruise / means I am a slob or uneducated / means I should cruise on Carnival / or makes them want to jump overboard. I think some people just enjoy judging others...or...I am not sure honestly. I have posted this many times before, but thinking of the handful of obnoxious folks I saw in a dining room on my half dozen cruises, all were very nicely dressed.

Maybe I will change my tune once on the ship, but I am still in awe that most of the things on the ship don't appear to start until 8:30 in the morning. DH and I always wake up early, even on vacation, so 8:30 seems late. Even 7 seems late to me. But we're just weird like that, I guess. :) How early do the Kids Clubs open?

8:30'is very late IMO.
We are early risers even on vacation.

Yes. :)

And this is a mom of six. I'm finishing up our packing and that includes three nice outfits (plus pirate costumes) for each of 8 of us. 32 additional outfits = a lot more luggage. But it's what cruising has always meant ... Dressing for dinner. So. We're dressing. And it would be funner ;) if everyone were participating. No. It doesn't "ruin" my vacation. But I'm a throwback to a more-formal society anyway. I don't even own sweatpants. :P

Adults who shove their kids in front of you when you've been staking out a spot for a long period of time. Adults who put their kids on their shoulders, blocking the views of everyone behind them.

Yes. Here is an idea. If you want your child to see the action. Come early and pay your own dues !!!! None of this .... Oh it's for the kids .... Well ya of course. Sorry you did not make it a priority for yours !!! Bugs me ... Than I'm bad guy

7 is early early early? :confused3 Sorry, just doesn't seem that early to me, unless you've been staying up, dancing the night away the night before....

Lol that's what I was thinking...7am is sleeping in pretty late by my standards.

My pet peeve, as a couple others have mentioned previously, is the lack of elevator etiquette. It's a pretty simple concept that even kids can understand if they are taught: if you are waiting to board an elevator and the doors open up, let people get OFF that elevator before you charge your way ONTO that elevator. Please.

But do you make a ton of noise when you know others are sleeping? Just because *you* get up before the sun comes up doesn't mean others do. Not everybody is on the same schedule, and sunrise is *not* the time to be dragging chairs across the heads of the people who are staying just below you.

People that let their cabin door slam shut. If you come in late or get up early you are disturbing others. Hold the door and let it close slowly.

Guilty but only once! I didn't realize with the glass door to the verandah open, the door would slam. It was so loud. Thankfully it was about 3:00 in the afternoon on boarding day.

We dressed for formal night, I had a floor length gown on. Our table mates did not because, as they said, they have to wear suits for work every day, they don't want to wear them on vacation. It impacted me not one bit. Did not change the feel of dinner or anything for us.

I always wait for others to get off the elevator before boarding and I've taught the kids to do the same. But, I find the opposite annoying also. I've missed elevators because people getting off were very slow and then stood in front of the doors gabbing so you can't get around them to get on, and then the doors close and you missed it.

On the same topic, being an early riser, it would also be nice if people were not running and/or talking loudly in the halls in the middle of the night (for me, past 10pm :rotfl:). My parents always think we're insane, but we are constantly shushing our 6-year old. In my mind, there could be people sleeping at any time of the day who would not appreciate my kiddo being loud in the hall. And if we're inside, we should use our inside voices :) It's just common courtesy.

My three:

Last cruise two ladies were arguing with a CM because their daughter/niece was not tall enough to get on the aqua-duck. She missed it by an inch and the mom and aunt were screaming at the CM calling him a jerk as well as a few other choice words in front of the child. Not necessary. They have rules for a reason.

Passing out in the fire drill....this lady was so drunk she fell like a sack of potatoes during the drill!:rotfl:

People taking WAY more food than they will ever eat. I cringe when I see plates from the buffet being cleared 3/4 full.

I question whether this whole thread should be posted.
That's my pet peeve.

This thread may entice pet peeve seekers. This thread is fine for advanced sailors. This is not advisivable reading for newbies. All these issues can be debated to death, yet once aboard they are irrelevant IMO. As most are once boarded.

These peeves worry newbies... BTW, no worry newbies. :)

This thread may also only encourage peeves. EEK. We don't need that. lol.
No flames please. Remember the thread, ... pet peeves. lol.

I'm a bit concerned for the newbie reading all this detailed data that generally is not applicaple. Now the newbie will notice irrelevant items/instances that previously they may not have.

Point is, there is a time to sail, a time to plan, and a time to obsess.

There is a lot to say for sailing blind. Some of our most memomarable sails where blind, unplanned, not researchd to death. ... a Visa Moment. ;)

So... I suggest research all you want, but keep an open mind knowing each ship and sailing is different. Each sailing offers a different experince. There is no way to predict the outcome of any sailing reardless of vessel. And I hope all the readers realize this and plan accordingly. That's half the magic.

We had some of our best experiences sailing w/o any research. Point is if you like a surprise, or the unexpected, stop reading these threads. ;)

Having said that, I wish you all a Happy Sailling, and may you have calm seas.

I think I have very few pet peeves because people look at me and think "stand clear of THAT one"! It's absolutely nothing I say or do!

Point is, there is a time to sail, a time to plan, and a time to obsess.

As someone who leaves for vacation Friday, and embarks on Monday, I appreciate this statement. After over a year of reading these boards, I am suddenly feeling like I don't know thing. I decided I'm going to ride with it. I am even considering not reading the boards after I get back, for a few months. I don't want to know what I might have missed.

Thank you. I make every effort to be quiet in the halls at all times. I lived in apartments long enough to know what it's like to have jerks for overhead or next-door neighbors. I even walk lightly (balls of feet first instead of heels) in my own home when on the second floor. It's just a habit I developed years ago and never lost.

You're on vacation. Naps, sleeping in, getting up early, etc. are just normal. You're in a giant apartment building that floats. Be good neighbors.
