Poll- Your Pet peeves

On the same topic, being an early riser, it would also be nice if people were not running and/or talking loudly in the halls in the middle of the night (for me, past 10pm :rotfl:). My parents always think we're insane, but we are constantly shushing our 6-year old. In my mind, there could be people sleeping at any time of the day who would not appreciate my kiddo being loud in the hall. And if we're inside, we should use our inside voices :) It's just common courtesy.

Oh yes, I shush my 6 yo too. I remind her constantly, "Other people are still asleep"

As someone who leaves for vacation Friday, and embarks on Monday, I appreciate this statement. After over a year of reading these boards, I am suddenly feeling like I don't know thing. I decided I'm going to ride with it. I am even considering not reading the boards after I get back, for a few months. I don't want to know what I might have missed.

I've often said that I am glad I didn't know about DISboards (or, indeed, any other cruise boards) before our first cruise. I (perpetual planner that I am) would have been pulling my hair out over all the details!

Since I had cruised before finding my way here, I was able to realize that most things that people obsess about are really quite minor in the whole experience of cruising.

I question whether this whole thread should be posted.
That's my pet peeve.

This thread may entice pet peeve seekers. This thread is fine for advanced sailors. This is not advisivable reading for newbies. All these issues can be debated to death, yet once aboard they are irrelevant IMO. As most are once boarded.

These peeves worry newbies... BTW, no worry newbies. :)

This thread may also only encourage peeves. EEK. We don't need that. lol.
No flames please. Remember the thread, ... pet peeves. lol.

I'm a bit concerned for the newbie reading all this detailed data that generally is not applicaple. Now the newbie will notice irrelevant items/instances that previously they may not have.

Point is, there is a time to sail, a time to plan, and a time to obsess.

There is a lot to say for sailing blind. Some of our most memomarable sails where blind, unplanned, not researchd to death. ... a Visa Moment. ;)

So... I suggest research all you want, but keep an open mind knowing each ship and sailing is different. Each sailing offers a different experince. There is no way to predict the outcome of any sailing reardless of vessel. And I hope all the readers realize this and plan accordingly. That's half the magic.

We had some of our best experiences sailing w/o any research. Point is if you like a surprise, or the unexpected, stop reading these threads. ;)

Having said that, I wish you all a Happy Sailling, and may you have calm seas.

I agree with this,

Over time things change, servers change, Csptains changed CMS change performers change. Policies change.

The longer it's been since any poster has cruised the longer their out of date with information.

A lot posted here are opinions and readers have to judge them on that only.

There are people who have just cruised and report changes and people who haven't cruised for two or more years with DCL.

There are people posting about things they have never personally experienced.

All this is most confusing to the new cruiser, whose opinion is best,

Personally everyone is different.

I see Toy Story on the Wonder gets bad press from a minority, however when I was on the Wonder in Augudt last year it ran to a packed house and lots of laughter, no one leaving and massive appualse at then end with three curtain calls, I feel sorry for readers who are advised by someone who cruised a couple of years ago snd say don't bother, who then miss it, they pay $$$ for the cruise they should make thier own minds up.

I like Toy Story ok, I like Villains Tonight a lot, and I read a lot on here about how terrible that show is.

So, big deal. I ignore it. You should too unless you gave it a shot.

I agree! I see a lot of people say things like, "don't bother with ______" well maybe they will like it more than you did? Don't discourage new cruisers or rain in their fun when you have different tastes!

That's why I usually respond to "What show should I skip?" with -

We personally don't care for Toy Story, but I think if you haven't seen any of the shows on any of the ships, you should see them and make the determination for what you don't like yourself.

As to why we don't care for Toy Story, if a poster specifically wants to know why, I'll tell them.

Id like to know ^_^

Wow..post of the year so far..:thumbsup2

I almost had a tear roll down my eye at the "sailing blind" comment....ahh memories...I LOVE DIS boards but my experience would have been entirely different had I read things here before our 1st cruise.
Imagine, your first kiss... (I do) .. Now imagine if before your first kiss you went to a psychiatrist or a school counselor an they told you all the issues surrounding that experience you were about to have. For me, it would have ruined it. And I feel bad for all those reading here who have not cruised yet.

I still remember my 1st cruise and, like my 1st kiss (may the universe embrace her forever), it was a wonderful, sublime experience that I will never forget.

Exactly! We loved Villains Tonight!

Just wanted to know what my fellow cruisers pet peeves are?

One of my pet peeves is people not using hand sanitizers. :headache:

Uncaring, rude guests. The entitled folks who treat the waiters or other CMs and other guests with disrespect. Luckily we have our "rude filter" that tunes them out enabling us to always have great cruises.

If I had to pick one, it would be guests who come up with one excuse or another to stiff the waiters (not pay them their well deserved "gratuity"). Whatever the reasons they imagine, that's pretty tacky.

Those who judge how other choose to cruise, for no valid reason, other than it is not how they choose to cruise.

Overplanning / underplanning / buying bottled water / too much food on my plate / port too early / port too late / kids club all day / never in the kids club / huge bar bill / no bar bill / book on board / book with TA / Book with DU / book with Costco

If it does not have a direct effect on you, and it is not harming or mistreating someone, MYOB.

More of a Disboard peeve: Those who post "no flames" when they really mean "I just posted on a public internet message board my opinion but you have no right to disagree with me"

My biggest peeve is when one responds to a question that they "really" do not know the correct answer to and then end the reply with the acronym AFAIK:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

Here's a 'humourous' article that was in the NY Times last month about adult public nudity in Germany. Definitely not something that would happen here in the states! LOL
Again a cultural thing .... ;)

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/03/3...ow-when-to-go-naked-in-germany.html?referrer=

Too funny! ;) But rest assured, not every German goes nude all the time ... I don't usually go to saunas and a few months ago had my best female friend (German like me) talk me into it. I asked her couldn't I please please wrap myself in a towel but she said no, that's just not proper sauna culture! :confused3 So I thought, okay, I'll give it a go ... Went in with her, really glad that at least we were alone so it wasn't that bad. Needless to say, a few minutes later a bunch of people (both genders, all German) comes in to join us - and they are all of them wrapped in towels! :scared:
I was out of the sauna in a flash ... :lmao:

About the kids, by the way: Just for what it's worth, I don't think it's really common to have school-age kids run around at a normal (nun-nude) beach stark naked in Germany, either. Up to age 4, maybe, but not really after that.

No follow up, or a thank you from OP, for helping with their situation or inquiry.

We here, ironically, would prefer to learn the outcome of ALL threads. But rarely do. :sad2:

A simple thanks, and follow up, can go a long way.

:)

Very good point, never thought of that one! We all want to know how things turned out....

Sorry about not posting replies! I was just so shocked by how many replies I got and I was also busy with work! And I just wanted to point out that this thread is not just about the Disney cruise line, but any cruise lines!

My three:

Last cruise two ladies were arguing with a CM because their daughter/niece was not tall enough to get on the aqua-duck. She missed it by an inch and the mom and aunt were screaming at the CM calling him a jerk as well as a few other choice words in front of the child. Not necessary. They have rules for a reason.

Passing out in the fire drill....this lady was so drunk she fell like a sack of potatoes during the drill!:rotfl:

People taking WAY more food than they will ever eat. I cringe when I see plates from the buffet being cleared 3/4 full.

I completely agree with you on the issue of people taking way too much food from the buffet and not eating much of it. Some people may argue that it is an ALL YOU CAN EAT buffet but ALL YOU CAN EAT includes the word EAT not PUT ON YOUR PLATE AND STARE AT. I enjoy trying new foods from the buffet but if it is something new that I have never eaten before, I put a small amount (taste size) on my plate and try it. If I like it, then I got back and get more. We may be paying a high cost for being on a Disney Cruise but, in my opinion, it does not give someone the right to waste large quantities of food when they can still enjoy all the food they want without wasting alot of it.

Rude to your servers.
I haven't been on a cruise since 2010, but we were unfortunate enough to be tabled next to a family that could not be pleased. Maybe it's the way I was raised and the family I come from, but we don't complain about something unless it's a real problem. This woman would complain that her bread was to pale.
There would be at least 3 complaints per family member, and some of them were simply that they didn't order something properly an fit could have completely been avoided.
Now not only did she complain about everything (EVERY NIGHT) but she was so loud. To a point people would stare.
I know cruises are a lot of money and you should get what you want but you have to be respectful to the people who are waiting on you. They are not getting that massive amount of money you paid.
Maybe keeping in mind the people around you paid a lot too so just a teenie bit of respect.

We would apologize to our servers for that woman's behavior because it was just too much. No one deserved to be treated the way she treated them, and at some nights with impossible demands, even for Disney.

This may have been posted already, but those who can't follow a simple rule. Like a dress code. And Disney not only not enforcing it but changing it so the few can be accommodated. As an example 3 years ago it was no shorts in the mdrs. But people not only wore them anyway but blatantly said we don't dress up at home so were not doing it on vacation. What did Disney do? They looked the other way and now pretty much anything goes. Is it really that hard to put on a nice pair of pants and shirt for a few hours? There's another thread about Palos. Even Palos is looking the other way for some things.
