though will for the pools

Counter point is that the pools are nice with limited number of people. On the wonder I could see a couple more kids in the shallow pool but I couldn't imagine more people in the main pool (not because of covid but because there just isn't a ton of room if people are moving around and such).

I am sure though the teen will be fine since they can make friends on the ship and then hang out elsewhere than the teen club if its closed for capacity.

Interesting, I know someone who recently went on a disney cruise and she said there was regularly a long line for the main pool. I think she was on one of the bigger ships though.

I'm canceling, not because of the CDC guidelines, but moreso due to the current restrictions. The biggest issue for me is the kids activities. Having to prebook a limited amount of time in the kids club is disappointing. I also have a child nursery age, so I'd rather wait until that is open again. I'm also concerned about ports changing last minute and limited excursions.
I'm thinking the same thing here. We have the Fantasy on 1/29 and it just won't be the same with the kids club limitations. And the potential to quarantine if they are exposed in the club. Although given how close we are, it looks like there are cancellation penalties. So disappointing given the state of the world with omicron right now.

if you’re in the penalty phase, like me, you can move your cruise to a future date right now. That’s what I’m thinking of doing.

I cancelled my cruise and booked a stay at the new Margaritaville Resort in Orlando instead .

Well that's certainly very interesting. Seems like "exposure" is very likely inside that 14 day window, so if I want to cancel rather than move the cruise, seems obvious to wait......

I agree. My granddaughters get exposed to it weekly. Not a week goes by where someone in their class will test positive. My poor 6 yo grandson has been tested more than most people. Note all of my grandkids are fully vaxed, and my traveling with us teens are getting boostered this week….hopfully their flu shot too. Ironically, I want to move my cruise money to a future cruise, but it doesn’t appear that I’ll be able to move my placeholder with it. BTW, if my teens don’t get comprised, their dad will….law enforcement (in lockup). You can’t imagine how many times he’s been compromised. if we all pass the test at the port, it will be a miracle.

I'm pretty sure I have covid again right now. Soonest testing I could find is next Monday afternoon. Need to find my husband a test now too, though he's not got any symptoms. If I do test positive and feel recovered enough for travel AND he tests positive, we'll still cruise on the 31st as 90 day recovered. If we don't both have positives by the 2 week mark, we'll reschedule. I don't want to drive 7 hours just to have to head back home.

Holding out hope here. My Dad and I aren’t scheduled to go till August/September 2022. So we will see.

my mom thought they were Petri Dishes before this anyway 🤣💯
I think media locked that term for ships back in the 70’s and 80’s when Norovirus was first hitting the ships. Controls were not as tight for cleaning back then. No gloves or masks, inappropriate and inadequate cleaning supplies. But I think that’s all changed nowadays with Covid. Bet the case’s of Norovirus drop significantly now. I wonder if cruises become the healthy choice vacation of the future because they require shots and testing.

Yup. You are right it started with the Norovirus. You also have to make sure the word "floating" is before Petri dish. :)

It is medical slang, not a media term.
My mom was an RN and had to take continuing education to keep her license up. In 1975 she took a class on containing infectious diseases in close living spaces like nursing homes, college dorms and cruise ships. It, of course, was taught on a cruise ship.
Hotels too, as was evidenced back in July 1976 with the Legionaires Disease outbreak.

I just canceled our March cruise. Since it was 59 days they said I’d be penalized for $900 if I canceled. I was able to move it to November but the penalty follows the reservation. I have to sail before May 2023 in order to not lose the $900.

Yes, but the point is once you’ve waited in line you can actually swim in the pool (the line is because they are only letting about 20 people in at a time. Pre-Covid at the family pool it was so full of people you couldn’t move an inch and we’re constantly getting poked, elbowed, and kicked.

We're scheduled 2/19. I don't care about getting sick (vaccinated, low risk, going to get it at some point anyway) but I do care about getting turned away at the port or not being able to get off the boat anymore. So may cancel because of that.

I got a great discount for a Fantasy cruise during my spring break, the only time before summer (which is too expensive) when I can sail the Fantasy given my schedule as a schoolteacher, so I'm not cancelling. I'm hoping that Omicron will have more or less run its course by mid-March, but even if it hasn't, I'm going. And looking forward to it, no point in stressing about it. I've got serious issues to deal with in my daily life. I'm not going to stress about a vacation. I'll get a rapid test prior to flying out, and that's all I can really do in terms of Covid preparation. I can't isolate before the trip because I'm a schoolteacher. If I test positive at port I'll just deal with it and it won't be the end of the world. Taking the small chance that might happen is better for me than just canceling the trip now out of fear, and having nothing to look forward to for spring break. Due to the pandemic limiting travel options & me traveling solo, there isn't really anywhere else besides a cruise that I'd want to go this spring break, so just choosing another vacation option wouldn't work for me. I'm looking forward to the Western Caribbean ports, most of which I've never visited before, but if those ports are closed to us, I'll still enjoy just being pampered onboard the ship for a week.
