I don't consider it a bad habit. In fact I get on the scale as often as possible. To me it is important to judge how my body handles certain things. After a long workout I get on the scale. If I am up I am actually happy. if I am down that means I did not drink enough and I am dehydrated. If you live and die by that number than it is not good to check very often, but if the scale is more of a cause and effect monitor than it is fine to check often. Have a little fun with this...Step on the scale to start and then have a large meal and get on again. Then every half an hour for 3 hours or so get on again. This helps you to determine how your body digests. Try it with heavy foods, salads, snacks, or just a lot of water.
I do "weigh-in" every Friday morning and that is the number I "count" when judging progress.
