Good Morning!
I have carpet being installed today, Monday and then the following Monday. (3 bedrooms)

Do you tip the installers? And if so, how much?

Poll coming....

Thanks! :wave2:

Just my opinion, but that would be like tipping the plumber or electrician which I don't do either! :teeth:

My DH is a carpet installer. He does get tips sometimes. It is not very often maybe one every couple of weeks. He has gotten anywhere from 10.00 to 200.00.
So tipping is not the norm, but he is very happy when he gets one and so am I :teeth: .

in 20 yeras of doinghome re pair work i think i've been tipped maybe 15 times altogether,, its ok if you want to, we dont mind, but honestly, if my crew is group tipped,, ie customer gives me extra and says split it up,, i split the entire extra to the crew and dont keep any of it, most guys i kow never mention to the crew that they got one, much less pay it out,

in my opinion, tipping home repair peole is like tipping a dr, or a lawyer, or the loan officer at hte bank. you are paying them, they make well over the min wage, and most of theem never get any thiung lkike that, if they do a great job, are fast and considerate, offer to buy them lunch, or fix them lunch, they'll apperciate it, and you can let them know you apprecite them, offer drinks ( non alcchoholic you lushes) during the day, etc:) thaat way you can be sure htey get your thank yous:)

Try a 6-pack. Around here a little cerveza goes a looong way. :teeth:

I've been known to leave beer for delivery guys as well. The roofers loved me as well as the washer/dryer delivery guys.

No my DH insalls all my carpets :rotfl: :rotfl:

OK - seriously now -
it depends - is it a small business where the owner determined the price - and does the work therefore asks for exactly what he wants -
or is it subbed out to someone else working for a measly pay rate??
I LOVE when DH gets tips of gift certificates - or gift cards ($10 at the local Cumberland farms buys a lot of slushies ;)

How do you know what kind of beer to buy??
I know with our framer I have been bringing a 12 pack of his favorite out everyday - for the end of the day - but I wouldn't know what to buy a stranger...

I've given repairmen/women cold drinks or for the yardwork/tree crew I gave some $$ so they could buy some beer...I don't know if they are Miller or Bud or whatever people. ;)

My father owns a moving company and also works alongside with his men and they all like it if you at least offer a cold drink.

I just put the 6 pack out or just put it in a bag for them at the end of the day. I usually have Sam Adams or Corona in the house but those are bottle opener ones. Sometimes I have a twisty cap brand of beer as well. If I leave it out, its gone when I come back or they just smile when I give it up to them. For the roofers (who spoke only Spanish), I handed it to them and said cervesa, and they just said gracias. I said di nada and left.

I kept them stocked with cold soda and iced tea, but did not tip them or provide lunch.

I tipped the furniture delivery guys $20 each because they helped us out with a piece that they hadn't delivered but needed a five minute assembly that took three men to handle. I just stayed out of the way while my DH and the guys put the two peices together. (China cabinet)

A little beer goes a long way. I always make sure I have a 6 or 12 pack ready to go depending on the crew.

Here's a tip for all those who live in cold states. Give a 6-pack to the guy who plows your street at the beginning of winter. It's amazing I never have those big piles of snow at the end of my driveway :cool1:

I offer them a cold drink and lunch if I'm home, that is the extent of my "tipping" service people such as plumbers, painters, carpet installers.

We always tip anyone who works in or around our house. I would probably give them each $10.00.

Sounds good...I will probably offer them $10 each to get some lunch when they are finished.

Thanks! :wave2:

I don't tip people that do work around our house but I do provide a cooler full of water and gatorade as well as some snacks like granola bars. They always seem to appreciate this.

We would too. Usually my husband does all the work himself, but for furniture delivery people, we always tip them. Personally, I would tip the carpet installers. Probably $10 each, plus I would offer them drinks.
