Well I'm going to really annoy those who don't like 'outsiders'....We have a family tradition of watching Wishes on the last night of our trips but on our last night MK closes early (?private function) and rather than 'waste' a day of our tickets at MK we're having the day at Epcot and then nipping over on the monorail...we may even use the RESORT monorail to get to the Poly if we're tired)...and watch the Wishes fireworks at 6pm before heading back to Epcot. Oh and to add insult to injury...not only are we not staying in the Poly but we're not even staying ON SITE! :scared1: :woohoo: :rolleyes1

Believe it or not, not everyone at WDW is dying to get over and soak up the atmosphere of a WDW deluxe. I think this notion that somehow guests of the monorail resorts will spend half their vacations shooing away peasants from the values out of their sacred area is ridiculous.

I love this! :rotfl2: Best quote of the thread! :goodvibes

This is an entertaining thread, and it is particularly interesting to read the posts that the OP deleted but others quoted. I do wonder if the OP has ever stayed at the Poly or is just anticipating lots of commoners on "her" beach?

We've paid to stay at the Poly and have watched the fireworks from the beach. It's nowhere near as cool as watching it from MK, and the beach was never anywhere remotely near standing room only (but I can see how it would be on July 4 - all of WDW is standing room only!) I've never had it be a problem that it was so crowded that we couldn't find a seat, and if it had been, I certainly wouldn't have been demanding to see room keys. I would have just known to arrive earlier the next time, or I would have stood. Wishes doesn't go on for hours.

What's next? You must finish dinner at least 15 minutes prior to Wishes so you don't accidentally view it from my Poly airspace? This thread ranks right up there with the thread about the resort monorail being only for monorail resort guests who show a room key.

We have stayed AKL CL, but we have also been over the AKL many, many times to eat and look at the animals. We never felt like interlopers when we weren't resort guests, and we never noticed or cared if the people in line for night vision goggles were AKL guests or "the common folk" from GF. :rotfl2:

Having patio chairs being taken would be annoying and the pool is too small for the resort, but guests on the beach? Is that really that much of a problem? I'd advise that those so sensitive might instead rent a home in one of Orlando's gated communities. ;)

And as far as working to pay for a deluxe (or value, or moderate, or a tent space), don't most of us? I've never been given a free trip to WDW, but if I were, I'd be so grateful I'd sleep in my car if I needed to.

It amazes me what people can get worked up about. Disney encourages people to visit their resorts, and most are attractions unto themselves. No one has ever looked down on me for wanting to get my picture taken with a giant Pongo.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaa

It is interesting how you have reacted to the can of worms you opened! I am sure you thought this was a perfectly innocent question and from your point of view it is. You can go back and edit your posts until the end of time, but in the end, you posted something that is out there. And really and truly its been a civil debate for the most part. If you got some sarcasm its becasue this whole thing is a bit silly.

Again, how in the world would Disney keep out anyone from this beach? Put up a fence? That would be great for the pool, but the beach? Disney likes people to come to that beach. Its a great way for them to place their product out for all to see and to hopefully buy on their next visit. If you think the ambiance of your night on the Poly beach is ruined by the non resort guests, what will happen to your ambiance once some Disney security guy is shining a flashlight in your face demanding to see your room key? Or when the view is seen through a six foot tall fence? I mean come on!

And don't think the Poly is the only resort to have these issues. Believe it or not other resorts get day visitors or looky loo's who want to check it. If you think other resorts with popular common areas don't have these issues, its probably because you aren't staying at them! Why else would Disney provide entertainment, views, nightlife, or anything else that anyone can enjoy, pay for or check out if they didn't want them to do just that?

Bottom line, you say you work hard for your resort. Welcome to the club! If people are calling you an elitist, its not because you stay at the Poly, its becasue you think somehow you have worked harder to get there than others or that those not staying there are on welfare? Again, you can delete this stuff but you've been quoted so its out there for all to see.

As for wanting to feel special and pampered, you need to go to one of those spas where for a week you get somebody to place a sliced cucumber on your eyes and really take care of you. That nightly dollar amount you are paying for the Poly may be insanely high (or not, with discounts you can get good rates there), but it isn't for pampering purposes, its for the right you get of parking yourself very close to the number one theme park in the world, a bigger room and easy access to the monorail. You can pay a little more to get some "free" food and drinks at the CL but in the end, you'll still have to deal with the fact that the common areas are just that common areas.

I am sorry but I stand by my earlier statement that this notion that somehow flocks of commoners make it their nightly pilgrimage to go over and cleanse their bodies in the Poly pool and lake and then stand on the beaches in awe for a view that I am sorry isn't even the best view is just not the case. The Poly is a large resort and for all we know the people taking the lawn chairs (so tacky) and blocking someone's view are staying there themselves.

We did stay at the Poly, we didn't encounter this (we stayed on a holiday weekend when not only was Wishes going but the Pirate and Princess Party fireworks were going too and therefore a lot of people were "locked" out of the MK).

I am not at all saying this isn't an issue. Or that it doesn't have some merit. Because for sure people pay top dollar to stay at the Poly. On the other hand, I just think this has gotten turned into a debate that is silly. And 69% of those that voted agreed with me that for whatever reason, this beach should not be turned into a gated community. Not that we are all saying a problem on varying levels doesn't exist, but rather that its a problem that isn't worthy to be solved by shooing out the non guests.

If you don't want people to disagree with you, don't post polls!

Wow! Really, really late to the party, but I voted no. I love the Polynesian - we stay there whenever we can, but I really don't like the idea of closing off the beach. It's a public area, why shouldn't we all enjoy it - and I've never had a problem finding a spot when I want one. I've worked hard to pay for my trips, but I've also been the recipient of 'gift trips', and neither one affects my feelings on the matter. To each our own opinions, I guess!

For the last time.
I have stayed at the Poly many times.
I started the poll because I was curious. A friend of mine just came back from WDW/Poly and complained about the beach and all the people standing there.
Its NOT my beach nor did I ever say that. All I wanted to point out was that I work very hard to go to a deluxe, thats all!!! Nothing sinister or argumentative. I tried doing this with a little humor and sarcasm.
It seems what I originally wanted has been taken to a ridiculous stage.
"Ludicrous Speed" this is nuts.
I started the thread and now want to close it as all of you seem to be attacking me. Which if thats how you get off, cool.
I don't have a problem with anybody on the beach at the Poly.
I don't have a problem posting a poll but when you attack me and misconstrue what I have said then what's the point of me continually defending myself? You don't want a civil debate, you want to be right always. Fine you won.
Happy?
I concede.

Never said it was my 'beach".
Nothing wrong with me saying I work hard to stay at a deluxe.
YOU are the one who is worked up.
Nothing was ever said by me about "common" folk. Those are your words.
And why am I even responding. What a colossal waste of time.;)
Hope your happy now.
Peace.
