No anger from me. Since you have no desire to be at the Poly why did you respond?

It was an open question on a message board. I gave my opinion in response to your question.

And who said anything about "others"? I never did.

You asked, "Should the Poly Beach be just for paying Poly users?" The others I was referring to would be the non-Poly guests.

I think your appalling. Nah nah.

All righty, then.

We have had ours taken numerous times and there was nothing we could do about it. The first few times we called the front desk and got pretty much no where. <CLIP> The only rooms that seemed to have furniture taken was the rooms facing the water and beach. People would run out of chairs out there and think nothing of taking some from the patios.

I am very disappointed to hear this. I agree with the idea that it's Disney's resort, so Disney's call on whether or not you have to have a room at the resort to use the beach, but it boggles my mind that Disney seems to feel it's okay for someone else to wander off with the chairs on your porch. I'm not surprised there are people that do that, but I expected better of Disney. Most places I know about have one style of chair for the units and another for the beach, and if you're wandering around with a chair from one of the porches when someone reports one missing, you'd better have a room key as well. Disney knows there's a problem here and should do something similar.

Once again I work hard to stay at a Deluxe resort. Not rich. Not privileged. Don't rob banks. Didn't inherit money. Not a politician.:rotfl:
Not abusing our system. NOT ELITE.
I have friends that don't want to work that hard who are more then happy to stay at a Mod/ Value. COOL!!!! They think I'm nuts to stay Deluxe. I want to be pampered. I want to escape reality for awhile. I want to feel special. For the love of god.

I give up.:guilty::guilty: Call me names and have fun.:rolleyes1

I don't understand your defensiveness. At least from my perpective, but I suspect for most people calling you out for your comments, it has nothing to do with envy. I have only stayed at Deluxe-level resorts at WDW, so obviously I understand their appeal and choose to spend my resources the same way as you and your family. Many of the people who have called you on your statements, and/or disagreed with your central thesis, also stay at deluxe resorts at WDW. Ironically, I haven't even seen the accusation of elitism thrown around, except as a refutation of an incredibly rude post that was deleted by the poster and by you. Therefore, in my opinion to try to turn this into a class issue or issue of elitism is more than a little disingenuous.

I've stayed at the Poly several times (although, as I posted earlier, I didn't watch the fireworks from the beach). But when you say that you work hard and others rely on welfare, that is what I feel is uncalled for and insulting and I felt required a response. It's not insulting to me. Frankly, my wife and I make very good livings and are able to acquire the tangible and intangible things that we want in life with little effort. But your aspersion that you're the only person working hard, or that only people staying at the Poly are working hard, is fallacious and, yes, insulting.

Look, you've become defensive, and clearly don't understand why your post was insulting, so let's just let it go. You're past it in real life, it has absolutely no bearing on my life, WDW has obviously made their decision, so since what was a fun and amusing chance for me to debate and toy with somebody with what I view as a bizarre view of life has started to make you unhappy, I'll just let it go. Have a great trip! Enjoy! Seriously, I hope if you do go to the beach, you have no issues finding a chair, or a hammock, or whatever you want. WDW should be magical for all, and I hope it will be for you! :hippie:

We have had ours taken numerous times and there was nothing we could do about it. The first few times we called the front desk and got pretty much no where. We then started bringing in a chair before we left the room for the day. The only reason we did this was that my mom is in her 70s and can't walk in the sand on the beach due to her bad knees. One of the highlights of her trips is sitting out on the patio or balcony and watching the fireworks. After a few trips of getting patio rooms we have since switched to requesting balcony rooms. While it is just a request, we have always gotten balcony since then even if that meant waiting for it to be ready. The only rooms that seemed to have furniture taken was the rooms facing the water and beach. People would run out of chairs out there and think nothing of taking some from the patios.

I am sure you will have a great trip. I love the Poly even with some of the little flaws I think it has. We have never in probably 25 stays at the Poly had a bad time. Always awesome and can't wait to get back there.

This, by the way, is CLEARLY wrong for any guest to do. While I am arguing, and will continue to argue, that the beach should be open, nobody (not even another guest staying at the resort) should have the lack of common sense to use, much less TAKE, your deck furniture. You are completely justified in being angered by that, and that IS something that WDW should police and control. Same as with pool hopping, IMHO. Those are clearly benefits accrued to residents of the resort, and should be enforced as such.

Sorry for that hassle! I hope it gets better in the future!

When you call from your room phone, you don't get the resort front desk. You get a call center who knows where - Tampa, Orlando, wherever. It's up to those people on the phone to decide if your call actually gets transferred to the actual resort front desk. So I don't think it's actually accurate to say "Disney" doesn't care or at least the Poly doesn't care. It's more likely that the call center didn't appropriately forward the call or the message.

I've never seen any chair stealing myself and we stayed in 1st floor Hawaii (so our room patios are right at the beach) twice - so I think the chair stealing is just a one-off (or two-off) instance - I really don't think that kind of behavior is running rampant @ the Poly, or that anyone needs to make sure they take their patio furniture inside when they leave the room.

And I still don't understand why people keep posting about "Ask people who actually stay there". I have posted twice that I DO stay there, along with some others in the thread, and I still don't think it's a problem that needs to be addressed. If it was a huge issue all the time, I might feel differently too, but it's not except for some (based on this post) isolated incidents. Since it's NOT really a problem most of the time, it does seem elitist to me to want to restrict the access.

When I stay @ the Poly - everyone is welcome to be on the beach in front of my room! It won't faze me in the least!

Why does it bother some on this forum for others to have a different opinion from theirs. :confused3

yes we have had patio chairs taken, yes we have obvious pool hoppers taking up space at the pool to the point paying guests don't have a place to sit, and yes we have had to park at the TTC when paying, because so many people not staying at the Polynesian were in the parking lot at the time of day when only Captain Cooks was open for meals and shops were empty.

Hey we even had someone knock on our patio door one night after the fireworks wanting to use the toliet.

It's real easy to say none of this would bother you until you experience it time and time again. As someone else said I have to wonder how many that are in favor of no restrictions, have ever stayed at the Polynesian and actually experienced the problems. If you haven't, how can you honestly say it would not bother you. :confused3

But hey its no big deal I just don't stay there anymore. It is way too expensive to constantly be trying to find a place to park or sit at the pool or retrieve my stolen chairs.

Due to monorail access, I am sure it can never be secured like resorts are in other vacation destinations.

But that was not the question. I definitely think the parking needs to be restricted to those staying there and those with a dinner reservation.

I have stayed at the Poly before, and I vote "no". The public areas of the resorts should be open to all. I don't want it to get to the point where I would feel awkward watching fireworks at Poly beach, listening to the piano in the lobby of the GF, chilling in the lobby of the WL, or even hanging out at Pop Century.

And I'm outa here.

Now back to your regular scheduled programming.

Well, on the upside, Poppinsme, you *did* start a very popular thread ! Look at all the people that took the time to vote in your poll !

Don't take things so seriously. You obviously struck a nerve here, and that brought out some less than positive things from some people. But hey, you got a good conversation going and that counts for something, right ?

Keep the faith. :wizard:

I voted yes.
I booked and stayed Poly Club for the July 4th Weekend specifically to enjoy the view from the Poly. Thought we'd stay in the lounge. We didn't. We went outside on the edge of the beach instead. We loved the experience and all the people and met some really nice families actually. But, I still feel like those that "pay the Deluxe rates" should get the opportunity not to "lose space" to non paying guests. Now I did see CMs ask if one had a reservation IF you were not staying onsite (as they entered the resort) ...but I also saw people speaking with Hawaii Bldg/Club concierge and complaining (those poor cm's) about how annoyed they were...
I guess I understand them...but for our family personally....we really just enjoyed the Spectacular View, and were grateful to be able to spend the weekend at Poly Club to begin with...I'd do it again in a heartbeat...Loved it! And I did not feel crammed or smashed in...not like I heard happened at MK!
I guess I am just full of contradictions :lmao: too funny....

Well, we don't go to other resorts to sit on the beaches and take up space. Restaurants anywhere are fine but I do believe the beach areas of any resorts should be for those resort guests only. I dop't think the question was about restaurants but about beaches. :)

That makes perfect sense.

You can go to any resort and drop $$$$$ on food and drink, but you are not allowed on the sand.

You should send that suggestion to WDW. :thumbsup2

Not sure how that comparison can be made. beaches/pools & restaurants are 2 different things. :confused3

Pools are a separate issue. You don't swim at the beach at the Poly (at least I wouldn't :scared1:).

The beach is part of the grounds. Guests of WDW are allowed to walk around the grounds at any resort.

That's like saying you are not allowed to walk on the veranda at the Y&BC or you are not allowed to walk on the boardwalk at the Boardwalk Inn.

And I'm outa here.

Have asked the Mods to close this thread or erase it.

Didn't think I would have to defend myself for:

1. Being an elitist :confused3
2. Being mean to welfare recipients
3. Having a bizarre way of life (that one I kinda like):rotfl:
4. Apologizing that I'm curious and so the poll
5. That I'm angry :lmao:

The end.
Now back to your regular scheduled programming.

Ahh, the flounce of the vanquished! Have a fantastic night! :hippie:

OK, one last thing, if you cannot have an intellectual debate without feeling attacked, I pity you.

Dude get over yourself. You are debating standing on a beach to watch fireworks? Really?
Pity yourself.
I never wanted a debate.
That was your choice.
I decline.
And I could care less what you think of me as this is a WDW message board, far from reality.:rotfl2:

Just asking. Are the patio chairs not behind fences? At the GF all ground rooms have fenced off patio's or balconies.

All the Balconies at the poly are fenced of course, but the 1st floor patios are open. ( i think it is better this way) No fence= more room
