1. DH and I work very, very hard to afford a Deluxe resort. And we also enjoy staying CL because we WORK for it. That is what we enjoy about WDW the amenities of a Deluxe resort.

As opposed to everyone else that visits WDW?

I'm staying at the Poly for the first time in a couple of weeks. I don't see a problem with non-guests using the beach because Disney has defined it as a public area and it's their property. It's not up to me as a guest. If I don't like their rules, I can stay elsewhere.

I've requested a 1st floor room due to mobility issues (well, preference too but it'll be easier with the wheelchair). What I WILL have a problem with is if my patio chairs go missing. That's part of the furnishings associated with my room and I expect my furniture to stay put.

We have had ours taken numerous times and there was nothing we could do about it. The first few times we called the front desk and got pretty much no where. We then started bringing in a chair before we left the room for the day. The only reason we did this was that my mom is in her 70s and can't walk in the sand on the beach due to her bad knees. One of the highlights of her trips is sitting out on the patio or balcony and watching the fireworks. After a few trips of getting patio rooms we have since switched to requesting balcony rooms. While it is just a request, we have always gotten balcony since then even if that meant waiting for it to be ready. The only rooms that seemed to have furniture taken was the rooms facing the water and beach. People would run out of chairs out there and think nothing of taking some from the patios.

I am sure you will have a great trip. I love the Poly even with some of the little flaws I think it has. We have never in probably 25 stays at the Poly had a bad time. Always awesome and can't wait to get back there.

Thank you for the advice. I'll try to remember to bring the chairs in the room when we're not there. I really am looking forward to staying there. It's our dream resort and we upgraded the last 3 nights of our stay when an AP rate came available for our desired room category (CL GV).

I just can't believe people have so much nerve that they'll actually walk up to another guest's room and remove things from there. If a guest left their patio door open would people take furniture out? I don't see this as any different. The patio attached to the room is part of the area paid for by the individual guest and should be respected as such. This isn't a public area. I don't get it. The beach is public; patios aren't. Oh well. I won't let something like that affect my vacation. I'll be at the Poly after all. How can I not be happy?

3. Comparing the BWI to Poly is not the same. The boardwalk is separate from the BWI. You don't have to go through the BWI to get to Flying Fish as an example. The boardwalk is aces sable from Epcot and HS. And the boardwalk is not a beach in front of a resort but full of bars, food, and shops. For me there is a huge difference.:)

This certainly is interesting and very enlightening.;)

I think the reason there is a huge difference in your view is because you were staying at the Poly and not the BW. I'm not sure where you were going with the accessibility argument but the Poly is accessible on foot from both the MK and the monorail station, is it not?

The Boardwalk is not separate from the BWI or the villas. Rooms are directly over the shops and restaurants. I've walked around the Poly before and it was a bunch of buildings with rooms in them and the Grand Ceremonial whatever it's called. ;) What part of the hotel does one have to walk through to get to the beach?

My argument is this: You don't seem as concerned with people sitting on the beach as with people sitting on the beach during entertainment (Wishes). That would be the same as me saying that it doesn't matter if you ate at the BW, the entertainment (buskers) should only be for paying guests. It's not my call to make and I've never really thought about who was staying there and who wasn't.

As I stated.;) We WORK very, very hard to stay deluxe. Some people get free trips from relatives etc. Some people use public welfare to get to WDW.
And I work plenty of OT.
So I can stay where I choose but am not an elitist which is my point.
Maybe you should read the whole post and not paraphrase.:laughing::laughing:

:sad2: Although I disagreed with you, I understood your point until you posted this. This is appalling and just disproves what you're trying to claim to be.

Wow. Just, wow...Do you truly not see the incongruity of your post?

Also, to your previous post about the BW being different, I disagree. The BWI & BWV pay to maintain that space, pay the salaries of the entertainers, etc. It's frankly a lot more connected to the actual resort than the Poly beach is. But it is a public space, and therefore open to everybody. And, as a BWV loyalist and BWV DVC owner, I want it kept as a public space! It makes the area more vibrant and fun. Sure, it gets busy, but that makes it fun.

2. When you pay top dollar for an experience, ergo the Poly, you expect certain pluses. Or why stay there? And if you are staying at the Poly GV then to see the fireworks you could go to the beach. I don't think its to much to ask that you have a place to sit and relax.:) This is what your paying for....

...4. DVC and pool hopping at he Poly. All my friends that have DVC use the pool at the resort they are staying at.:confused3 In fact one of my work friends is staying at BLT for Food and Wine fest and can't wait to try out the CR pool. She has no desire to pool hop and never has.

5. To say that its "the end" if Disney changed there policy on beach use at the Poly is ridiculous!:rolleyes1...

To your points above:

2. No, according to Disney, which as a corporation actually owns the hotel, that is not what you're paying for. You are paying for your room and the right to sleep in it. If you're staying CL, you're also paying for access to that lounge. Your room rate also covers costs such as DME, etc. But, according to Disney, you are not paying for exclusive access to the Poly beach. Their house, their rules, so take it up with them, not your fellow guests who are following the rules.

4. I just don't understand what you mean by this? Are you objecting, or just randomly stating facts about your friends?

5. I don't think many people (or any, that I could find) have said it would be the end. Most, including most who have stayed there, said that it doesn't seem to be the problem that you feel that it is, so as a result it's not something that needs resolution. Yes, rules change all the time, but generally for a reason, and the reason in this case appears to not be warranted.

Anyways, have a fantastic trip! Try not to let it bother you too much! :hippie:

Now, this is purely my opinion. No, I don't think that the beach should be just for Poly people for the fireworks. I think that the beaches are public areas of the hotel. The pools are private for paying guests of the hotel. But, if the hotel is going to open it's doors to visitors by offering public restaurants, it's kind of hard to tell them to "watch where they walk".

On a similar note, you wouldn't close off the Grand Floridian at Christmas so that only GF guest could view the gingerbread house and see the decorations? I think that, for some people, seeing different resorts is part of the fun. We go to the Poly, CR, BC and BW to the different restaurants...not specifically to look at the other hotels, but while we are there we might walk around and see what they're all about. We're not going to hop in Stormalong bay or anything. ;)

I think Disney has set their resorts up so that everyone is welcome to enjoy how pretty the resorts are. We're staying at the GF in Sept....I'm quite sure they'll be "non-GF" guests at the marina or on the dock watching the Water parade or the fireworks....it doesn't bother me. I might be going to dinner at their resort the next night. :confused3

Once again I work hard to stay at a Deluxe resort. Not rich. Not privileged. Don't rob banks. Didn't inherit money. Not a politician.:rotfl:
Not abusing our system. NOT ELITE.

I give up.:guilty::guilty: Call me names and have fun.:rolleyes1

:rotfl2::rotfl2:
As soon as you stay at one of the Deluxe resorts you will be put in the " privileged" closet.

The truth is it is the "little green monster "that raises its ugly head.

I have stayed at BWI CL. I stand by what I said. Big difference.:)

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Now on to......
Tongue in cheek get it???? ;)

Appalling? Really? WOW!!!!:sad2:

Yes.

Once again humor does not read well on the internet.
I was not attacking anyone with my original post of the poll just curious.
This became an attack when people started to post that we were "elitists that stayed at the Poly". Get it?

I answered by stating that I am not an elitist but someone who works very hard to afford to stay deluxe resorts. Get it?

As I work with doctors who do feel elitist and run others down because they have MD behind there name. I try very, very hard to NEVER, ever act like I'm above anyone. How you read this from my post is unfortunate.
For that is not me. Once again to point out there are people who don't pay for there trips to WDW or elsewhere and that was my point.......that I work hard to stay at a Deluxe.....Capeche'?

Wow such anger. I should have known that this would (thread) come to this. My mistake was my curiosity.:rolleyes1

You seem to misunderstand. I'm not angry in the least--why would I be? The only anger seems to be coming from you. I've never stayed at the Poly, do not plan on staying at the Poly (not my cup of tea), nor have I watched Wishes from the beach.

The majority of folks work hard for their vacations and I think those with gift trips mainly dwell on the DIS boards. We work hard and enjoy vacations at the deluxes, as well. I'm just don't care to try to keep the others out of "my" resort.

So if the Poly beach should only be used by those staying at the Poly, should the Boardwalk area be off limits to those not staying at a Boardwalk area resort? Seems the same kind of thing to me.

I've stayed at the Poly before. The beach was not all that full, so I don't see what the big deal is about what amounts to a few additional people viewing the fireworks from that spot. I didn't feel special or that I owned the beach becasue I was staying at the Poly.

I guess I don't get that possesive over my Disney resort beaches.

I really can't believe people get this worked up over what I consider to be a rather crappy view of the fireworks from a beach. I really can't imagine going out of my way to see the fireworks from the Poly beach. I'll either watch them from the park or if I happen to be staying at a monorail resort where I can see the park, maybe I'll watch it from my porch. :confused3
