Poll: Should the Poly beach be just for paying Poly users?

I voted no only because then guests staying at the Contemporary would want the 4th floor observation deck for them only and guests staying at the Grand Floridian would want the marina by Gasparilla's Grill & Games only for them. So if they made the Polynesian beach for only the guests who stay there, I see it going down a road at the other Monorail Resorts WDW does not want to go.

I agree with this. In addition, maybe the AKl guests will want the animal viewing/night vision goggles to be for them only.

Maybe the BWI people will want the boardwalk for them only.

Where will the want for exclusive access end? I can't imagine that the beach gets that crowded.

If people want the best view for the fireworks, perhaps they should just stake them out early.

I have never seen a crowded beach and we have stayed there a number of times. Over one Christmas trip, we did go there to watch fireworks (weren't staying there that trip) and even though it was Christmas week, the beach still wasn't crowded. I don't see that any exclusive access/restrictions are needed.

And to penelope - I have never had an issue at the Poly pool with it being SO crowded due to pool hoppers. I'm sure they are there, sometimes, but it has never impacted a stay I had there. (And please no one turn this into a pool thread as those are no longer permitted except in the dedicated pool hopping thread - I'm just trying to answer a concern that was posted).

The idea of people pressed up against your patio using your chairs seems way ridiculous to me. We've stayed in Hawaii, TPV twice - no one was anywhere near my patio - the beach is across a lawn, and across a sidewalk - no one was interested in sitting on my patio chairs.

I think these concerns are overblown.

I voted no. I have only watched Wishes from the Poly beach on only one occasion in all of my stays there and honestly--I could care less if the people on the beach for the fireworks were staying at Poly or not. When I am staying at a monorail resort, I like the convenience of being able to see the fireworks if I chose to, from my resort area but I think it would be wrong to exclude other guests and aside from that, it would be too hard to enforce anyway.

We're staying at the Grand Floridian at Christmas. obviously paying a lot, but we certainly wouldn't expect other WDW guests to be "banned" or something. I mean, should we limit who can go inside the GF to see the giant Gingerbread house? Limit those who can watch the fireworks from GF or Contemporary?

We are planning a dinner at Jiko then will hang in the lobby and hope to use the night vision goggles to see the Savanna. would you then limit that too?

As a monorail resort guest, you have OTHER benefits you are paying for, than just the beach at the Poly. You are paying for the huge rooms, the fantastic monorail access, the boat access to MK too. You aren't just paying for the beach. It isn't your only benefit.

I just don't see how you would limit beach access during wishes, without it being a "slipperly slope" that changes access at all resorts.

I do, however, thing all pools should be limited to guests of that resort only.

I've only watched from there once or twice---as a squatter (gasp!)---but it's never been particularly crowded when I've gone. Perhaps others have had other experiences. It didn't seem like a problem that needed to be solved to me.

Last week at WL, there was a Cast Member who would periodically go around to chairs and remove towels from a few here and there when there didn't seem to be any other signs of occupancy. I don't recall ever seeing that before, but I appreciated it.

I voted "no" simply because it isn't really a problem. Where we would stand to watch the fireworks near the Tahiti longhouse was pretty much empty. It was a little bit busier by the pool/around the volcano pool area. However, if the people who are watching the fireworks are letting their kids swim in the volcano pool and they are not actually staying there, then yes, yes I do have a problem. But I highly doubt that anyone would do that

I voted no. In our numerous stays at the Poly, there was never an issue of too many people on the beach to watch the fireworks.

We went to the Poly beach after our 9pm 'Ohana dinner last December. We were the only ones on the beach for about an hour. Maybe that had something to do with the temperature - it was about 45 degrees out. Even with 4 of us from NH, wearing fleece and jeans, we were all chilly. Needless to say, we didn't have to look for seats too long

We don't generally travel during busier / warmer months, so it wouldn't be an issue for us

I voted yes, but I don't know how this could be really enforced. I don't think the areas should necessarily be exclusive to only Poly guests; we certainly like to holtel hop to other resorts and look around. But that is throughout the day, not at a specifc time. If others are doing "normal" hotel hopping, this spreads out the visits, and would not become a problem for any particular hotel.

But I have been to the Poly recently and have noticed a lot more people in the beach and pool area for the fireworks, and yes, it was difficult to find a chair. It is not traffic spread througout the day, but those coming for the specific event that causes a bit of a problem. I think if Disney (example, Mom's panel) maybe stopped promoting it so much, it might take care of the issue.

Hmmmmm...I know I don't like it when so many other WDW guests park at BW that we don't dare leave during the day for fear of having no parking place when we return. I guess I wouldn't use the Poly beach for watching fireworks, knowing how I feel about the parking at BW!!!

We love watching the fireworks from Poly after dinner at Ohana or Kona! We've watched from the beach and from the dock.

Unless Poly gets DVC, I don't foresee us staying there anytime soon.

No. In part because we have stayed there during a very busy holiday time and the beach was never so crowded we found ourselves without a place to sit and enjoy the view and fireworks. Also, how in the Sam Hill will they have a beach private only to guests? Put up a fence? That would look nice. Also, many people who enjoy that beach ate at Ohana, the Luau and Kona. So while they aren't "guests" in the true sense of the word, would that maybe give them some right to the beach?


Believe it or not, not everyone at WDW is dying to get over and soak up the atmosphere of a WDW deluxe. I think this notion that somehow guests of the monorail resorts will spend half their vacations shooing away peasants from the values out of their sacred area is ridiculous.
