I voted to keep it the old way. We never once had bad service in our 7 TS meals the last time we used it (on the old plan).

However, if that was the luck of the draw and enough other people have experienced bad service because the tip was guaranteed, I can see the point of removing it from the DDP so the servers have to earn it.

.

the appetizer was removed because people complained it was too much food although I really liked having it. Personally I would like it if you could chose between having an appetizer or a dessert. that way one of us could order an appetizer and one a dessert and share.
I know CM are required to say that the tip being removed was because of guest complaints, but I heard the real reason, I just can't remember it right now. It had something to do with a contract or union, something like that not getting hammered out in time.

I know the rumor "The appetzers were taken out because of too much food" but did those same people tell Disney "please take the appetizers out of the new plan and make sure you don't lower the price of the new plan more then $1.00" because then we would all have "Too much money!" I dont know how we would all deal with that problem :rotfl2:

I've called Disney and they said multiple times that the people wanted tips taken out of the Dining plan due to poor service, We have never experienced bad service on the Dining PLAN. I'll go as far as saying I've gotten bad service paying out of pocket many of times, not nessasarily in Disney. Whether you pay out of pocket or Disney pays its really the quality of the server you receive that night. I find if you establish communications with your server in the begining of your meal, as far as whats important to you for a pleasant dining experience(for ex. refills, special needs etc.) You establish a relationship with your server and get a much better experience. This has never failed for my wife and I. Many people will sit there and not speak up to thier server, and then complain to the masses.

Please Vote
I see a lot of people viewing but only 25% voting. I'll be happy to forward the results to Disney if we get a decent response
Thanks

Out of 594 viewS we only have 118 votes Thats only a 20% voter turnout I cant go to Disney with 120 opinions but I could go with 600
Once again PLEASE VOTE, THANKS

I think this is a great idea. Please report the results to disney in hopes of changes to the 2009 DP!

that told disney they wanted to pay the tip.

however.....

I also think Disney was looking for a way to make money off the plan while still keeping the cost lower...that's what they came up with. I say charge adults $8 or $9 more a day and go back to paying the tips for us in 2009

I HATED the way they charged the tips. SO cumbersome ....:confused3 made little or no sense!

Yes, PLEASE bring the "tip included" back! I always leave a tip, but I have always hated the system. One of the reason all-inclusive resorts are so popular is because of the idea that you don't have to worry about anything (moneywise) once you get there. It would be so nice to leave your room with nothing but your key. For many people Disney is their dream vacation, and they strictly budget hotel, tickets, souvenirs and food. Feeling like a cheapskate for not leaving enough tip is certainly not a good time. The more expensive food you order from the DDP, the more money you have to spend on the tip. It would be so nice to just order what you want and be friendly to the server as a person-to-person interest, not because they want something from you.

I would love the idea of a choice between appetizer or dessert, because frankly some folks are sweets people and some aren't, and it would be nice to chose what you want and not have it be a waste either way. But I wouldn't mind paying more for the DDP to have the tip included again. We're giving it as a gift to our entire extended family (17 total), and it would be a far more gracious gift if it was all taken care of and we didn't have to say, "Oh, um, bring money to the restaurant because you still have to pay for the tip."

Raise the cost and keep the old system. It was way more convenient. Some people would pay anything for the convenience. Like me:thumbsup2

ITA! Even if I paid more for it, I wish we could have ti the old way -- WITH appetizers and tips included.:thumbsup2

I said the old way, but I could see a midpoint. I don't necessarily NEED the appetizer. If I wanted that extra I could see where I'd need to pay for that, but I liked not having to carry cash in the parks.

I loved the old plan...tips included, even if it means my paying a bit more for the basic plan - but only if I can choose between appetiser and dessert. That would be ideal really.

It's actually the servers in addition to the guests that are hurt by Disney not including tips. I know many will simply not tip ANYTHING now and stiff the servers. Gratuity is now optional under the new plan and many will simply opt out.

the old plan was without a doubt a great deal. If you eat all your meals on site, the new plan is still a very good deal. Yes you get less, but still a bargin if you do table service @ least once a day

That's not a bad idea either. The option of either desert or appetizer.

What a load of bologna! Who in their right mind would rather pay for a tip out of their own pocket rather than have Disney pay it for them! The beauty of the old DDP was that it made your vacation all-inclusive. We did use the new DDP last month and it was ok. We didn't really miss the appetizer but we DID end up paying a lot of extra $$ for tips!

I agree with you (about "What a load of bologna! Who in their right mind would rather pay for a tip out of their own pocket rather than have Disney pay it for them"). However, there were an awful lot of posters last year saying that exact thing, that they wished the tips were not included so they could decide how much tip to leave. :confused3 They whined and whined :sad1: , and complained that it was not fair that the tip was guaranteed to servers, so the service was bad. I remember thinking "What a load of bologna!" :scared1: myself when I read all the posts. Now, they got what they asked for (yes, there were many, many posts like that on several dining plan threads) and many of us are not thrilled with the changes. However it is the way it is now, and I still love the dining plan. :yay: :dance3:

My vote is for the old way. I don't want to worry about paying for anything while I am there. Change it back!

I think that Disney should pay for the tip but the party should decide at what percent. I think this because my family was one of the families that recieved really poor service at quite a few restaurants over the past couple years. We are not a grab the manager and tell type of clan but we would've liked to have shown our displeasure by having them tipped at 8-10% vs the given 18%.

I must say, I like that idea. If customer choice is the so-called reason why Disney stopped including the tip, then give customers a choice about how much should be given to their server. On the bill, customers could choose say, a 5, 10, or 18% tip. Disney would still pay, but the customer would choose based on the service they receive.

Also, as far a choice goes, where is it for parties of 6 or more? Under the current dining plan, the server gets an 18% tip no matter how bad their service is!

I haven't been to WDW yet, but did sign up for the DDP b/c for the cost of it for my children alone, it was a no-brainer, they'll eat way more than $9.99 a day, and for my DH and I, it's probably about right. My experience is from cruising. On our honeymoon, we had the same table and server at dinner every night and we tipped at the end of the cruise. 10 yrs later he was without doubt the best server we've ever encountered. Fast forward a few years and they've changed the policy: a set price per person/per day to be pooled and divided between all the workers, cabin stewards, servers, Maitre D, etc. It was a very noticeable difference in the service in all of the restaurants every time we've been since they changed the policy. Unfortunately, many people don't think they should have to work for their pay, they just show up, clock in and collect a check. It seems that's the way the waitstaff has become on the cruises. It is definitely more convenient to have it all included, but at the same time the when it's not included it's a motivating factor to the server to work harder, they could actually earn more than 18% rather than just coasting to whatever they will get.

I don't mind tipping for a job well done, been there done that. I will have a hard time tipping 18 to20% for dinner at a buffet. But since we haven't been yet, I'm only anticipating what it will be like.

I don't guess I really need the appetizer either, but I liked having the option and having it included in the plan. Sometimes I wouldn't order the appetizer, but I would get dessert, and vice versa. As far as cash carrying, I still won't do that. I will just charge the tip to my room - I've always been a meticulous room-charge watcher, so adding one more thing to watch for won't be that big a deal for me.

OH! Now this would be cool! The perfect solution for me. :thumbsup2

I would much rather pay more and have tip and appetizer included. Much, much rather do it that way!

I liked it the old way w/ tips included. The all-inclusive was worry free and that what you want on vacation.

Not concerned about the appetizer BUT tips included is a must. It would be nice to have a choice between apetizer and dessert. This is not an issue for me.

Having to pay for the tips has driven up the cost of the plan, too expesive for us. Yes, it's a dollars less (and appetizer less) but you pay more for the tips.

OLD WAY IS BETTER.
