If you were a DVC owner that lived anywhere outside of Central FL, then decided to move to Central FL, would you sell or retain your DVC interest?

I voted what I would do, not sell. I think if we lived any closer than the three and a half hours it now takes to drive up, DH might push to sell. I love my resorts and I know he would NEVER want to pay cash for them again, even with a discount, so I would fight very hard to keep my DVC.

Purchased when we lived in Michigan. Moved within five minutes of the Vero resort and 90 minutes of WDW. We still own and do use our points. We seemed to go to WDW and Vero more when we lived 1200 miles away but it's nice to be able to do spur of the moment getaways.

This is an excellent question for us. My husband has the potential of being transferred to Orlando in the next 6-7 months. We've talked about what to do with our DVC and I say KEEP IT! I'd still love to stay onsite and use EMH and get the disney experience. Plus, we might be more interested in using the other aspects of our membership like DCL, Disneyland and RCI.

I bought into DVC in 2000, and I live 2 1/2 hours away from DIsney. So I vacation differently then most DVC'rs, I don't have the expense of airline tickets, rental cars, and I can benefit from FL resident deals. I buy weekday annual passes for $179, I never visit the parks on week-ends when it's crowded. I take (4) several 3 or 4 day trips during the year rather than one long trip, as most DVC'rs do. It's a nice way to get away from school and work during the year! I love the resorts and being on-site, even if I'm only 2 1/2 hours away! I enjoy the Orlando area and being close to other attractions, driving allows us to go to Busch Gardens, Universal and a miriaid of other attractions and fantastic restaurants in Orlando. I hope to never have to sell it!

I figure you still need a vacationno matter where you live! :thumbsup2
Unless I lived with in 30 min no way I would consider selling. Even then I would probably keep it as I love sleeping in hotels. Plus there are other great places like DL to use it.

Last year we purchased a second home 25 miles from WDW and plan on spending most of our winters there. We had 4 DVC contracts and this winter we sold 3 of them. The last one (OKW) we are keeping and plan on holiday stays at WDW.

This fall we are staying at HH for the first time. We also plan on using the points for VB and later for the new Hawaii DVC (we have relatives out there). This past winter we spent a week at VWL and while at our house would drive up a day or two every week to WDW.

We wouldn't sell, stayin' onsite is part of our Disney experience 'n despite how other folks view their DVC membership, I view ours as free lodging.

If I was within an hour's drive of WDW, I'd probably sell some points. We would definitely keep all of the VGC points but some WDW points might be sold.

We might do the occasional overnight stay to WDW as locals but it would never be the 6-7 nights at a time that we do now.

have discussed this and we are looking to relocate to Florida soon. The reason we would keep our DVC is for date night. We would probably buy more points so we could spend one night a week there. As it is we have enough to stay once a month :)

First bought DVC in 2002. Moved to Orlando in 2006. Have doubled our points since then for use on property or VB.

We did sell our Aruba MVCI timeshare after moving to Florida.

I'd still want to visit & stay in the WDW DVC units, but probably for short trips - weekends away, overnights etc.

My reasoning: Disney IS a world unto itself. The WDW area is a unique environment hard to find outside of Disney.

Out 'there' outside of WDW, the natural vegetation was stripped away many, many, many years back. Orange groves were planted in it's place. When those no longer became profitable the land was either sold and developed for condos and malls or planted with pines which are easy to harvest for wood. (look closely under the pines and you'll see the occasional rogue orange tree).

I appreciate the Disney property and they way they've maintained and rebuilt much of the natural environment even though they've engineered it into a marvel of human development. Fort Wilderness is my favorite place to experience this, but they've done an incredible job with VWL & the SSR treehouses.

we owned dvc for about five years...and then we bought a home about 90 mins north in the villages...and we will keep our dvc!...the villages is like disney for adults with all of its conveniences, shopping and entertainment - but the best part is that most transportation there is by golf cart! - we do miss that when we use our dvc! ;)

we drive to fl since we winter there, so we use the hhi resort as our overnite stop or when we visit family in the carolinas - we love hhi! and we enjoy sharing our dvc with our nieces and nephews! matter of fact - niece and her new hubs checked into 1br @ okw this afternoon! they sounded soooo happy and excited when they called to say thanx - again! and of course they were off to the magic kingdom before unpacking! so glad there are extra magic hours tonite!

having dvc at wdw also accommodates our shopping trips to orlando outlets and cigar stores! there's nothing more comfortable after a day of shopping than knowing we don't have to drive 90 mins to get "home".

I purchased my points when I lived about 1.5 hours away by plane and moved to central Florida less than two months later (job stuff, had no idea it was going to be an option). From my current home, I can get to the Epcot toll plaza in about 10 minutes. I still have my points and have no plans to sell them. Being able to have a staycation at one of the WDW resorts using my points is great, plus I make at least one trip to Vero every year. And I love using my points for DCL and trades as well.

There wouldn't be much of a reason to keep the WDW points if I lived close by. I find my own house to be much more comfortable than hotels or condos, so paying extra $$$ to stay in downgraded accommodations, having to deal with housekeeping/maintenance issues, check-in times, etc when it's not necessary, just wouldn't make sense.

Of course, as others have pointed out, it might make VGC or Aulani points a little more appealing to me.

We live about 35 minutes away and we love our DVC. We often want more points! We never stay a whole week and like others we tend to do several two to three night stays during the year. It helps us unwind etc. Plus my wife and I try to get one night to ourselves once a year for a date night. Usually at BLT.

We moved here about 1.5 yrs ago and had to contemplate this for awhile and we kept all 627 points we own. In that time we have done a couple of weekends (one coming up this weekend), a Disney cruise and 7 nights at AKV with friends. So we will still spend full weeks at WDW, weekend getaways and will cruise for sure! Our points are paid for so we can vacation pretty nice off of them and only need to pay maint. fees!:thumbsup2
I did not vote in the poll- the last two apply to me!

I think it would still be nice to sponsor friends / relatives to a place to stay at Disney - even if we only live an hour or so away. Besides, if my DW and I move to central Florida, we'll need a reason for the kids / grandchildren to want to visit!
