I'm just trying to prove to some that it's nothing but profits that matters.

I disagree with this because ultimately it is the CONSUMER who decides. And if consumers choose not to patronize a company for whatever reason, that is a loss of $$. If a consumer is not happy with any company's policies they are likely to take their business and their $$$ elsewhere. Can you imagine how many times innocent passengers luggage and clothing, etc., inside were soiled or perhaps ruined by someone else putting alcohol bottles in their checked luggage? We know that there have always been those that feel like the rules of alcohol only being in carry on luggage didn't apply to them. I've heard of more than one story of broken bottles in checked luggage.

Disney has not entirely done away with their formerly very liberal policy on bringing on alcohol, right? They have just restricted it much more than before in my understanding. Many cruise lines allow NO alcohol to be brought on board.

I'm pretty much neutral on the new rules as I'm not a big drinker, and I have never once brought alcohol on board. Never minded that others could and did (in their carry-ons), and I never noticed a "bunch of drunks" onboard because of the formerly very generous policy. Doesn't really matter to me either way. But I do think there could have been other options in the survey….such as: "Abuse of policy rules by passengers caused changes". Isn't it generally a minority of folks being a problem that cause the majority to suffer tighter restraints? That goes for just about anywhere in my observation...

Your disagreement actually is a very slight variation on profits only matter.

All good! Although by going beyond simple and allowing multiple choices, your results are possibly going to be hard to read.
I agree! But with the limitd options on here and without using a seprate survey site, it was the best i could come up with. Wish I could have added another question....

Wish I could use my work's survey monkey account, lol!

Right? So the title of this post should really be... "Vote to Reaffirm My Opinion About Why Disney Changed the Alcohol policy".

Lol. There really are only two camps of the argument going on here.

Sorry I couldn't make a poll that would reaffirm your opinion, because it doesn't exist!

Watch the results on the bigger one. It's still going to fall into the two camps at the end.

Honestly, my opinion is that it's not that simple. I doubt that it's going to cause that much of a difference in Disney's profit, because everyone will just do what they always to: think they're above the rules and break them. Most people were still buying drinks, even if they did carry their own booze on. On our last cruise, we gave a bunch of it away to our servers and photographers because we didn't finish it. Disney well aware of all of this... but just like the autograph thing, Disney allows it because they are trying to provide good customer service, but when it becomes a problem they end it.

But letting people do back to back mixology's and get loopy is not a problem for them. Lol

Profits will immediately jump I don't doubt that. Most people are sheep and won't bend the rules

The change is 100% about money!!! I live on the west coast but go to Orlando every year and we used to purchase the 10 day non expiring hopper for the parks and it was initially expensive but it would last us 3 trips. So a while back they made that go away and I haven't set foot in a Disney park since because it is no longer feasible to do it. It is way cheaper for us to go to Discovery Cove and git 14 days at SW/BG/Aquatica or go to Universal. Our last trip to Disney we rented through DVC and stayed at the Beach Club but never set foot in a Disney park. I love Disney parks but they have priced me out just like DCL is.

I think no matter what the results shows (overwhelming or not) people will not change their opinion as seen by the comments in this and all the related threads. My opinion is that this is directly related to profits - pure and simple. I'm not happy they did this in the manner they did, but I understand supply and demand economics so I'll have to get over it.

Disney Cruise Line is a business. They need to keep their shareholders happy. If a byproduct of this is that you are happy, that's great for them. If the profits are slowing down, they make changes to increase profits. If the byproduct of this is that you are unhappy? They really don't care. Their shareholders are happy.

Multiple people abuse a policy.

Said policy gets changed.

End of story.

The Omaha zoo gets voted top in the world almost every year. Their yearly pass is about $100 for a family, but via reciprocal memberships you can get into other zoos for a discount. This discount used to be 100%, so people would buy a family pass at a zoo in this program for far less, and wind up getting into Henry Doorly for free. The zoo finally caught onto this, and now the reciprocal benefits are only a 50% discount. Really awesome policy gets abused by too many people, policy gets changed.

Bottom line, Disney is a corporation. Corporations like making money.

If you don't like the policy, then don't cruise on DCL in the future. Complaining about it on an internet message board and acting like your basic human rights have been taken away accomplishes nothing.
