Poll on Why we think DCL changed their alcohol Policy

Why did Disney Change the Alcohol Policy?

  • Because they care about their customers

    Votes: 25 9.7%
  • To increase profits

    Votes: 232 90.3%

  • Total voters
    257
Not being snarky since I really want to know, what other options would you like to see?

Seriously, those are the only options?

I called it a simple poll, trying to keep it that way. I seriously think it comes down to these two options.

Notice I didn't try to make answers suit my personal choice with things like, "I drink DCL Kool Aid, am a stockholder, and think they did it to because they care about their customers "

This is the problem, not asking the real or Obvious answer to most people.

Really couldn't vote with those 2 choices. But i'm sure you'll get a lot of "to increase profits".

Due to abuse by fellow cruisers, as an option, as you were discussing just now?

You can both be right. "Due to abuse by cruises who insist on taking personal alcohol all over the ship, we don't sell as much liquor as we think we should. Therefore we are restricting our carry-on policy effective almost immediately." Bottom line, it's about the money. It's always about the money. (And even if it was caring about the number of drunks, it would still, at its core, be about the money. Drunken cruisers would increase their liability and impact their marketing strategy as being a family friendly brand.)

There is no such thing as a simple survey. You ask a question and give a very negative response type of situation I think defeats the whole purpose of the survey. You can come up with other answers that are more suitable to be included in this and get your desired effect. I believe the desired effect is to show it in a negative light.

What is the other option? Honestly I can only think of two reasons and they are covered by the options. Either they think this will allow them to sell more drinks or they think people were drinking too much and creating uncomfortable situations. That's pretty much the gist of the options.

Still haven't heard from anyone. I've heard complaints but no solutions. They should all run for Congress

I've never said their profit driven reason is a negative. Most of us understand they are a company. I'm just trying to prove to some that it's nothing but profits that matters.

I still sort of think it's b/c of Cuba*. ;) (though I voted "profits"...of course, adding Cuba to their ports would increase their profits LOL)

I cruised Royal Caribbean last summer in the Med, I could not carry any booze onboard.

You mean liquor, right? Because you could have brought on 2 bottles of wine per stateroom.

*not b/c I really think it's Cuba, but because I want to be right about something really weird.

How about rewording the prompt to say "What was the PRIMARY reason behind the alcohol policy change?"

As i noted, I wasn't crazy about the wording of either option. Personally, I think I would have geared the survey more toward trying to find out, what got folks the most upset (PO'd) about the change in policy. E.g. "Not enough Notice"; "Should be able to cancel after PIF"; "Why can't I get an OBC to offset my loss, after PIF"; "Why no Liquor"; "Not enough options to bring aboard"; "It's a total money grab". in reading the posts these seem to some of the biggies. Not sure if it's a "Solution", but it is i thought from the beginning. JMHO Cheers :drinking:
