Poll: If you are going during Fall Break, when do your kids have Fall Break 2006?

With so many schools adding a week of Fall break in the past 10 years, I thought a poll to get an idea of when they all are this year would be interesting...

Here in MA, and New England for that matter, I have not heard of any schools with a fall break. A day or two off around Columbus Day Weekend and Veteran's Day and of course Thanksgiving (day before and after off) but no week off in the fall here. We have a week in Feb and a week in April.

"Fall Break" What the heck is that??? ---ooohhh yeah, dd had one in October this year, it was 2 weeks!! OH...wait...that was "hurricane" break...that's right..
--FL schools don't schedule our fall breaks, the hurricanes do....

If you want to call a few days off around Thanksgiving a fall break, then I guess we have one. I chose after Nov. 12, but I don't think they really call it fall break.

Schools in NY don't start until after Labor day.

Our fall break in Tennessee is the week following Columbus Day in October.

We love fall break. I am in Ohio but no other district in our area does it! It is great, we can do anything (here or anywhere) without crowds and it's all off season. It is usually right around Halloween, last week of Oct/first week of Nov. We are going to Disneyworld for our fall break this year, but other years we have gone to the beaches in FL and they have been all ours, no crowds, yet weather is still good! Just gotta watch out for those hurricanes though.

Here in Maryville, TN, our fall break begins Friday, Oct. 6th & goes through the following week. We're driving to WDW, so we're taking DD out of school for 1 day & will be in the "world" Oct. 5-14. Our first time staying 9 nights! I can't wait!!

Our last trip, in 2004, our fall break was the first week of October. It was great! Crowds did pick up a bit on the weekend before Columbus Day. Still not unmanageable if you get to the parks early & use FP.

In Minnesota the kids get Oct. 19&20 off for the teachers convention. We are going Oct. 14-21!!!!!!!!!!!!

I voted for October 9-15. We have that week off and I am trying to work out a trip to Disney!!

Since many schools are starting earlier and earlier in August, they are adding Fall breaks to their schedules to give the kids a breather

after the first half of the semester and to make up for the days snatched from summer vacation

... rather than adding another week off around Christmas

(Christmas Break would be a total 25 days off if they added these days to it).

I don't think that will ever happen in NY. I didn't grow up here, but I understand there are things such as "Regents tests" (spelling?). They are at the end of the school year for every public school in the state and they are all given at the same time(same day). That is why we go so late.

The private school that we are thinking of sending our two oldest to, they are not required to give these tests so they get out around a week and a half earlier.

As long as these are around, I don't see the schedule changing.

I wouldn't like that they go so late in June, but I must admit, I like the start of school after Labor Day. For instance, we are able to go to WDW the last week in August when the crowds are down... LOVE that!

Not really a "fall break" but my kids have gotten Thanksgiving Week off the last few years. Started as Friday after, was expanded to Wednesday before and Friday after and now the entire week.

No breaks here in MI, at least in my area. We don't even get a full week in Feb, just a Fri-Mon. The kids don't start school til after Labor Day, though.

We don't have a fall break either, but will prob be going the last week of October We take ds out of school to go, neither dh nor I are get time off over the xmas holiday or the summer.
